Crime rates across the U.S. for juveniles is at all time high. Juveniles across all demographic have been punished more severely than those of the past. Contributing factors including lower socioeconomic areas such as the Detroit Metropolitan Areas & Chicago. This paper will discuss the apparent issue within the system focusing on juveniles in urban areas.
Detroit has the highest crime rate in the U.S. In Detroit nearly 14 children per day are victims of crime. Also, the average juvenile age is 13. Mainly all these crime come from juvenile assault. Here are some facts about Chicago that you need to know. One is Chicago is the most lethal city in 20 years. Second is there are nearly 82 shooting a week in Chicago. Last is the rise of gun violence is the main reason while people start shooting other people. Now back to what i was talking bout with juvenile crime. Chicago have 2,000 young men found but only 50% are violent-crime arrest. Over 17,000 juvenile were arrests for the same thing Detroit was doing. Also 37% of blacks represent of 0-17 youth population 79% were juvenile arrests. There are 40% of latinos represent of 0-17 youth population only 18% were juvenile arrests. One reason is there are several stereotypes: sexual/physical abuse, hereditary factors and exposure to violence at home. Second reason that leads to violent behavior is physical neglect by parents. Third reason is juveniles was incarcerated for acts of violence such as: fighting peers or their parents, hitting teachers or instructors, bringing weapon to school to scare his peers and etc. All these come from mistreatment to their children when they was younger. When that happen all children start going crazy and not listening to their parent or anyone that been in their shoes before they was born to even see this happen.
Juveniles that have a single-parent is more difficult. One reason is single parenting effects children mentally, emotionally as well as psychologically. Second reason is single working parents lacks parent-child relationship because of the lack time at home. Third reason is single parent families is one of the best effect on their children for them to start being criminal. Also, children in single parent families are most likely to be exposed to great deal of crime.
