Cats Rule, Dogs Drool
Hold on to those pants. Here is a fact: more people around the globe own cats than dogs. In the United States alone, 95.6 million people own felines, over the 83.3 million canine owners. Both kinds of pets have been said to relieve stress, promote optimism in all aspects of life, and make people happy, and even so, 15% more people own pet cats than dogs. So why is this?
There are numerous reasons as to why more individuals seek the companionship of cats. Likewise, dogs, too, have personalities suitable for certain people and benefits, undeniably, which cats do not. Nevertheless, canines are not the most advantageous household pet; felines hold true to practicality in that they are more economical, they hold greater independence and efficiency, and are surpassingly convenient.

dogs are said to be a man’s best friend, but what does history have to say for this? Cats, for many millenniums, have been loyal companions to the human race; in fact, their esteem was prominently regarded by the ancient Egyptians, who thought felines were in correlation to certain gods and goddesses. Among writings to the cats, an inscription in the Valley of Kings elucidates the significance of the species among their people by saying, “You are the Great Cat, the avenger of the gods, and the judge of words, and the president of the sovereign chiefs and the governor of the holy Circle; you are indeed the Great Cat.” Considering the Egyptians had considerable problems with various rodents, cats were valued within the culture for their eagerness to prey upon the nuisances. They even bribed the cats by putting out fish heads and things of their liking. Eventually, cats became domesticated amid the culture, and the mutualistic relationship between the two became one of hunting and thriving together. Many people have walked into their living rooms after being gone all day and witnessed the aftermath of a young dog’s playfulness and the remnants of what use to be a stuffed toy or bone. The fact of the matter is, it is most always the dog’s fault. Typically, cats are never expected to be the origin of a mess; this is for good reason, as they are far less likely to chew up an item for spirited entertainment. Likewise, a cat’s hissing does not keep the neighbors awake at night, as does a dog’s bark. A cat is content to be alone and independent elsewhere, without getting in the way, unlike attention-seeking dogs. As the famous author, Mark Twain, once said, “If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much.” After a long day of work, a cat is the perfect companion to keep one happy and sane. The practicality of cats over dogs is significant. Economically speaking, according to moneytalksnews.com, cats are considerably more inexpensive, cumulatively, throughout the life of the pet, over a dog. In a study done by the ASPCA, cats cost approximately $280 less than even a small dog, not to mention the fact that a large dog costs over $800 more, and this is just in the first year! These numbers include vet bills, food, supplies, grooming, and training – all important when raising any pet. Just as they are cheaper, cats are also expert in the act of killing mice and other small rodents that tend to cause problems for humans. ‘Tom and Jerry’ is an animated series, beginning in the 1940s, portraying the eternal struggle of the hunter and prey, and even though the cat doesn’t often win in the memorable cartoon, a dog is not one to chase the bothersome mouse. So why else are felines generally superior to canines?
In 2001, there were an estimated 6,000 hospitalized dog bites recorded, with 32 of those ending in death to the human. On the contrary, in that same year, 28 hospitalized cat bites were reported, none of which were fatal. Additionally, cats are self-cleaning machines! Cats are born with the implements to clean themselves; for example, a barded tongue, moistened forepaws, and teeth for rougher situations are all utilized in their epitome of self-sufficient cleanliness. Dogs, on the other hand, require regular baths and grooming if one chooses to maintain such sanitation. Likewise, the brilliant physics of a cat are far greater than that of a dog. According to Niteesh Sigh on www.quora.com, if a cat and a dog were to both fall without the utilization of parachutes, a dog’s terminal velocity is far too high to survive a plummeting motion. Cats, on the contrary, are able to reorient themselves so that they always lands feet-down; this intriguing concept is known as the ‘cat righting reflex’ and could make or break whether or not the fall is fatal. If this concept is not impressive enough, then what
is? Not one person can deny the fact that a cat is exceedingly more convenient than a dog. Imagine coming home to house full of chores to do and it feels like the term ‘going out’ is a joke; everyone is there at some point or another. Many individuals are not typically in the mood to go walking their dog. Per day, a dog should be walked twice for 15 minutes, depending on the dog and the size of its bladder. Furthermore, a cat’s kitty litter should be scooped once, mayhap twice, a day on an as-need basis, changing it about once a week. Comprehensively, a cat is easier to take care of on a regular basis and requires a lesser amount of time; dogs can be exhausting and time-consuming! Additionally, felines are tranquil and cautious, whereas canines tend to be sloppy and imprudent. Nevertheless, cats do occasionally chew up and eat random objects that could harm them. However, it is evermore a pain to have to replace things a dog often gets ahold of; not to mention, it costs money – once again. Here is the blunt truth: cats are more convenient than dogs. Overall, cats are simply a more advantage-filled pet. Felines are superior to the canine species in accordance to expenditure, independence, and requiring of a lesser upkeep. Cats, on average, also have longer life expectancies; after all, they do have nine lives! With this in mind, it is a satisfying experience to own a pet, and if one is in the market, a cat is a loyal partner with many benefits. Just as Sigmund Freud, the renowned father of psychoanalysis, once said, “[T]ime spent with cats is never wasted.”
Have you ever wondered how much it costs to have and maintain a pet? Burkhard Bilger, the author of “The Last Meow”, explains how Americans spend a lot of money on their pets and that people's “love affair” with their pets has gotten out of control. An observation I have made is that in many movies dogs are treated very well. When I was younger, I watched a movie called Bratz and one character would always have her dog inside a dog purse and they would even get manicures and pedicures together. The dog always had shiny clothes on and it was always very clean. Therefore, I agree with Bilger's argument that Americans “love affair” with their pets has gotten out of control.
Although cats and dogs are both animals they are different in many ways from, showing love, grooming, vaccinations, food, and vet care. To me dogs are more loveable than cats. However, cats are cheaper when it comes to grooming, vaccinations, and food. Owners treat and take care of their dogs better than their cats. I have always been more of a dog person even though they are expensive.
Most people like dogs more than cats. I like dogs more than cats. More than half a million people in America like dogs as pets more than cats.
Most people are familiar with the general claim dogs hate cats. We are reminded of this in advertisements, cartoons, and children’s jokes. We are familiar with the phrase “fighting like cats and dogs”. We may even classify ourselves as either a dog person or a cat person. But there are many people who have equal fondness for both dogs and cats. It is within these homes that the general claim dogs hate cats proves false. Not all dogs hate cats.
You wake up in the hospital, look around, and find a doctor hovering nearby declaring that you have just suffered through a heart attack; affirming that if not for your dog, you would have died. You remember back to earlier that day: sitting on the couch, feeling a little off, hearing your dog barking, sensing him nudging you, going to the phone to call the ambulance, and having your dog by your side until you were safe inside the aluminum walls of the emergency vehicle. Although it sounds abnormal that a dog would be the one to save someone’s life, situations similar to the one above are not uncommon. Dogs and other household pets have been shown to be able to detect medical emergencies, including heart attacks and seizures, in their owners.
A growing number of studies have attempted to support the theory that cats and dogs differ in their personality attributes. Several common factors have emerged across these studies, such as difference among social behaviours. Higher levels of dominance and hostility have been reported among domestic cats (as cited in Fonberg, 1985). Not surprisingly, domesticated dogs are higher in submissive behaviours (as cited in Marder, 1989). Woodward et al. also reflect upon previously held theories of companion animal attachment that suggest attachment is mediated by the needs of the owner and the characteristics of their pet.
Dogs are extremely lovable and the only thing in life that they want is to be loved by their owners. With dogs, everything in life revolves around love and affection. The only thing that is on a cats mind is food and what they
When you talk to pet owners about owning a cat versus a dog, it stirs up much controver-sy in many ways. By looking at both cats and dogs, the cat outweighs the dog in many ways, which makes the cat the superior selection when making a final decision on which one to get. Cats have very desirable qualities that make them an award winning choice to many owners. The qualities that appeal to most are the ability of the cat to live in small spaces, they do not eat large amounts of food for their meals, and they are very sedentary and independent in nature making them a low maintenance pet. One additional desired feature is cats are well suited for owners that have a very busy lifestyle and minimal time to give to their pet. This added feature
“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.
Having a pet is a wonderful idea. Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two.
Dogs and cats are the most popular pets in the whole world. Even though they’re both very popular, they are different in many ways. Some people gravitate towards the calmness of a cat, while others seek the companionship of a dog. Cats are a lot more independent and less expensive. Cats don’t require nor do they want to be trained to be a house pet. Dogs on the other hand are very loyal and will act as your best friend. Dogs require more attention and training to be a well behaved family member. The main differences between dogs and cats are their personalities, habits, and training, which all determine what pet to choose.
A dogs behavior is significantly more desirable than a cats. A dog is loving and friendly most of the time and enjoys a good belly rub as a reward. If you try and scratch a cats belly, the cat will try to scratch and bite you. A dog is incomparably easier to train than a cat. You can teach a dog to do anything from bringing you your newspaper to the simplest command, sit. As a result of being able to train a dog, a dog goes to the bathroom outside, leaving no stench behind in your house. Whereas, a cat uses a litter box to go to the bathroom, there is always a stench in your house. Dogs are also far better with children. Dogs form a far greater bond with newborn babies, and often times do not leave the child’s crib side. Also, a trained dog will not cause destruction to your house, while you cannot train a cat to not use their sharp little claws to tear at the side of your couches, and rip and shred all the way down your curtains. Dogs also do not jump places where most cats jump, such as in your lap on your laptop, or on your dinner table at dinner. A dog won’t be a surprise first thing in the morning laying in your bathroom sink either. A dog will lay nex...
Both dogs and cats are good for companionship, because they are both very sweet, loveable. However dogs have a much more need for attention, dogs constantly want to be played with, and sometime aggravate their owner until they get what they want. On the other hand, cats pretty much like to stay to themselves. Some cats may stay away during the day time and only come out at night. Dogs sleep pretty much at night while some cats are up all night.
Nowadays, people are busy in their daily life and having a lot of stress from their working area.
