Babysitting is something that lots of people have done. Often a parent will call a family friend to see if their teenager will come over to watch their children in exchange for some extra money. Most teens will except the offer, thinking that all they will be required of is to watch some kids play for a few hours and then be rewarded their pay. However, babysitting holds a lot more responsibility than one would think. When a parent places their child into another person's care they are accountable and should know how to be prepared, what to ask and what kind of attitude they should show to the child.

To start, a babysitter should come prepared for any situation. Children have a seemingly endless supply of energy, and depending on their age, can lose interest in something quickly, so having some activities planed ahead of time will be helpful. Some children can experience separation anxiety, when a child has extreme anxiety when separated from its parents, a good way to solve this is to distract them with an interesting toy or game. One should ask where the medical supplies, fire extigueser and anything else they might need is kept. A babysitter will also want to know what they need to do, such as make a meal, clean, or put the children to bed and when these things are to be done. Then, one should be aware of any medical needs a child has, emergency phone numbers and any other information the parents have for them.
