The death of Romeo and Juliet was a tragic and memorable moment in Shakespeare history. Mainly five characters were responsible for their downfall. Including Romeo and Juliet, the most responsible. Their parents, the second-most responsible, and lastly Friar Lawrence and the apothecary. Romeo and Juliet are the most credited for their suicide. The ended their own life for each other after falling love with each other. Romeo was at the Montagues, which was forbidden. He was originally there for Rosaline, but quickly re-evaluated when he observed Juliet. They let their hate get in the way of their relationship. The parents did not take into account the impact their hate to each other could affect the rest of their generations. After the Capulet party, Juliet asks her Nurse who she fell in love with. "His name is Romeo and a Montague. The only son of your great enemy. (1.5.152-53) Therefore the parents deserved the second-most amount of responsibility. The apothecary and Friar Lawrence still deserve guilt, even if it’s not as much as the other characters. The apothecary’s burden was giving Romeo the poison that helped him commit suicide. "Put this in any liquid thing you will. And drink it off, and if you had the strength. Of twenty men, it would dispatch you straight.” (5.1.82-84) Likewise, Friar Lawrence is also guilty. He made the famous plan for Juliet so that she wouldn't have to marry Paris. The plan included: fake death and being put into the Capulet grave. Romeo was going to be warned that Juliet was not actually dead, just sleeping.
