In William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet two young lovers lost their lives when hate and love collided. From the Montagues came Romeo and from the Capulets was Juliet. The two families were feuding and Romeo and Juliet could not stand being without each other. They both killed themselves because they thought life was not worth living without the other. Though there are many who can be blamed for this tragic ending, there are three that are the most responsible. Mercutio, The Nurse, and Friar Laurence are the three that deserve the most blame. Mercutio, though a minor character, had and enormous impact on the outcome of the play. Before the Capulet Ball, Romeo had been debating whether to go or not. Mercutio persuaded him to go by giving a big speech to him about a dream he had. This makes him partially responsible because the Ball is where Romeo first met Juliet. Mercutio also caused Romeo to be banished from Verona. Mercutio got in a fight with Tybalt and ended up dead. His death enraged Romeo enough to make him kill Tybalt in revenge. When the Prince saw what happened, he sent Romeo into exile. Romeo's banishment to Mantua made it near impossible for Romeo and Juliet to see each other. Mercutio was to blame, though only partially for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The Nurse was also responsible for the tragic ending of the play. When Romeo and Juliet met, the Nurse became their messenger. She helped them be together even though she knew Romeo was a Montague and that Juliet's family would disapprove. The Nurse brought news to Juliet from Romeo telling her to sneak out so they could get married. She helped Juliet get out of her house by bringing her a rope ladder to climb off her balcony with and telling her parents that she went to shrift. The Nurse kept Romeo and Juliet's marriage a secret from the families. When Juliet's parents said she should marry Paris, the Nurse agreed and said that Juliet should forget about Romeo because he was in Mantua. With the Nurse no longer on her side she had no one to help her and back her up but the Friar. In this way she had a large impact on the terrible ending of Romeo and Juliet.
In a story of unorthodox love, family feuding, and violence, many are at blame for the deaths. One of the people I think is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Mercutio. Mercutio had evoked a fight with his enemy Tybalt. In Act 1 Scene 1 lines 228-229 Benvolio tells Romeo “By giving liberty unto thine eyes.
An ancient grudge and parents too blinded by hatred to break it, bear the ultimate blame for the tragic death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence was just attempting to mend the rift between two households. Nurse desired to make Juliet happy. The parents were selfish and could not get over their enmity with each other, and their children suffered the repercussing consequences. Bombarded by the indecision of all, Romeo and Juliet were free-spirited, love-struck, and young. Sadly it was their deaths, not love or marriage that finally brought the two houses together and Verona peace.
She fired Juliet’s passion in her relationship with Romeo, then told Juliet it all meant nothing and to go marry Paris. This brought Juliet’s death. Even though the Nurse meant the best for Juliet, her actions still brought the demise of Juliet and Romeo (although her actions had a larger consequence on Juliet’s death rather than Romeo’s). Juliet was told by Nurse that “his name is Romeo… he’s the only son of your worst enemy” (a1, s5, l136). Unknowingly, the Nurse was hyping their relationship from the start onwards, setting Romeo and Juliet up to their unfortunate fates. The Nurse was Juliet’s advisor and she should’ve stayed loyal to Juliet’s decisions and remained her confidante. However, she suddenly switches over to Juliet marrying Paris. This changeover was rash, unexpected and too sudden for poor Juliet to cope, who was being forced to wed Paris, while wanting to be faithful to Romeo. Therefore, the Nurse brought Juliet and Romeo’s death upon
This shows that the Nurse is following orders from Juliet, because she thinks it will make Juliet happy. Although she does, she does not seem to be bothered about the damage she could cause in the future. This is one reason why the Nurse could be to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Another point in the play where the Nurse contributes to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is when the proposal of Paris comes along. At this stage in the play, Romeo has been banished.
The nurse practically raised Juliet, she was like her mom. Nurse was responsible for many reasons, she did not counsel Juliet when she saw that she was in love with Romeo, a foe of her family; she was also disloyal to Juliet when Juliet had asked advice from her for her refusal to marry Paris. The Nurse was not only disloyal to Juliet, but to her own kind, the Capulets. Running around behind their backs trying to get Juliet
An individual who plays a decent part in the play by William Shakespeare is Mercutio, he is one that is deemed to be connected to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. This is chiefly because, without him, Romeo would never have met Juliet, he would have stayed madly in love with Rosalyn throughout the entire five days that the play is set in. Another example of Mercutio being closely linked to their deaths can be found in Act 1 scene 1, where Romeo is forced to take justice unto his own hands and kills Tybalt. If Mercutio had not fought with Tybalt and died, Romeo would never have needed to kill Tybalt and be banished from fair Verona. Benvolio, who tells the truth of what happened in this brawl, might have saved his life, “Tybalt, here slain, whom Romeo’s hand did slay.” (III, I, 48) Mercutio definitely played an important part, which eventually led up to the deaths of Romeo and young Juliet.
The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet published in 1597 by William Shakespeare is a suspenseful and romantic story about two lovers whose love cannot part them from their feuding families. Although they were responsible for killing themselves, there are certain individuals who influenced them to commit suicide. Those who are most responsible for the unfortunate deaths of Romeo and Juliet include Friar Lawrence, for his selfish desire to be a hero, Capulet, for imposing an ultimatum and his disconnection from his daughter, and the Nurse, for her irresponsibility and betrayal to Juliet.
One of the most memorable characters in the play is the Nurse. Most prominently noted for her humor, the Nurse contributes a great deal to the play, though she appears in only twelve scenes. Once the climactic point of Mercutio's death is reached, the humorous qualities of the Nurse quickly diminish, never to be seen in their entirety again. At this point, the Nurse's main function as a messenger becomes apparent, which gives proof of her love and loyalty to her Lady. Her impact in the play is clear, the Nurse is the messenger of all news, good and bad, to Juliet regarding Romeo, until their tragic parting. Though the Nurse has nothing but good intentions for Juliet, her own personal flaws cause Juliet to lose full sight of situations. The Nurse has a somewhat questionable philosophy towards Juliet's situation with Romeo. "Her interests are immediate and material. Her commitment is to eros, and therefore toward the physical union of the lovers" (Stevens). The Nurse feels that her loyalty for Juliet overrides her loyalty for Capulet and his wife, and therefore believes she is justified in her interference wi...
The Nurse is a loving and caring character much more different from Benvolio and Romeo. The Nurse is Juliet’s motherly figure the one that is on Juliet side and only wants to see her happy. When Juliet’s real mom, Lady Capulet suggested that Juliet should accept the marriage proposal that Paris had offered, the Nurse, happily agreed with Lady Capulet because the only thing the Nurse wanted was to see Juliet happy like any mother would. “‘Go girl, seek happy nights to happy days.”’ (Shakespeare I.iii.105). This scene and the statement that the Nurse made shows how much the Nurse cares for Juliet, she treats her like a daughter and is thinking about her happiness. The Nurse shows that she has motherly traits and that she is very caring taking
She helps Romeo and Juliet meet in secret, and also helps them to get married in secret. This shows that the nurse is more like a friend than a nurse to Juliet, risking her job to help Juliet. At the time, she is not thinking about the consequences that come with this relationship. She just wants Juliet to be happy. Before the marriage, the nurse wanted Romeo to understand that Juliet is from a good family and will not stand for any ill-treatment. She becomes protective of Juliet by asking Romeo if he is trustworthy, she says to Romeo “Is your man secret? Did you ne’er hear say, Two may keep counsel, putting one away?” (Shakespeare 66). The nurse knows that if Juliet’s parents find out about this relationship, she and Juliet will be in serious trouble. She doesn’t want her to be heart
Nurse betrayed the trust of both Juliet and her parents. Firstly, as an authority figure in the family, Nurse should not have arranged the meetings regarding their marriage between Romeo and Juliet. By doing this, she is also allowing Romeo to see her as a friend, rather then one of Juliet’s guardians. In act 2, scene 4, Romeo says “And stay, good Nurse. Behind the abbey wall within this hour my man sh...
It was also Mercutio’s own fault for his death. He was constantly fighting/ getting into fight and causing problems. He stood in front of Tybalt with Romeo and taunted him until Tybalt had enough and snapped. Tybalt decided to start a fight where it would eventually lead to Mercutio getting stabbed and
The nurse is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. She plays a big part in this story, if she would have never went out to find Romeo and tell him how Juliet feels this would have never started they would have just met at the party and never talked again. She pretty much influenced Juliet to go against her parents and their word. She also rushed Juliet in a way she was rushing her to get married.
In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare is talking about a feud between two families; the Montagues and the Capulets which follow to revenge then love and ended in a tragedy that killed two young souls Romeo and Juliet. He also wanted to explain the real meaning of true love and the obstacles lovers can find themselves in.Juliet’s Nurse plays an important role in the play, her key function in the play was to act as a go between Romeo and Juliet and besides Friar Lauwrence , she was the only one who knew about the wedding which led to the tragedy. She has a role equal to that of Juliet’s mother and treated her as her own daughter. She was supporting protecting and loving toward her until that faithful day when she advised her that she should
The Nurse is a big part of Juliet’s life. She has been around since Juliet was a born. She is her caretaker. They have a close relationship and is important to Juliet. She is one of the few people who knew of Juliet’s love for Romeo. Romeo goes to see Juliet and they exchange verbal vows and the Nurse protects Juliet by calling her inside when she thinks someone is coming. The Nurse is sent by Juliet to find Romeo the night after their first kiss. The Nurse questions his love, but Romeo satisfies Nurse, Romeo says, “Nurse, commend me to thy lady and mistress. I protest unto thee.” The Nurse finds Romeo to be truthful. Says to Romeo, “Good heart, and, I’ faith, I will tell her as much: Lord, Lord, she will be a joyful woman.” The Nurse heads back to let Juliet know she approves of Romeo and that helps Juliet decide to marry him.
