In my opinion, Mercutio was right. Romeo and Juliet’s death( Tybalt’s, Mercutio’s, and many others) were a result of the Montague-Capulet long feud. The parents, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague, Lady Capulet, and Lady Montague, the ones that are supposed to be the respected and sensible ones in the family; should have called themselves to order to stop the senseless fighting. Instead, their inability to reason and come to a compromise agitated the problem and cost both houses the deaths of their loved ones.
One of the key reasons, Romeo and Juliet were merely victims of their parents rage, was mainly their lack of communication and active listening. Modern age families can be torn apart because of miscommunication. Half the time it’s a problem that a five minute conversation would have fixed. But of course not every thirteen year old’s solution is to kill herself if her parents are not listening. In the story, Juliet is saddened by the fact that Romeo has been banished and doesn’t want to marry Paris. Instead of her father being attentive and asking Juliet what is wrong, he erupts in a fury and threatens to disown juliet if she does not marry. Seeing that either of her parents will listen, she then kills herself.

Have you ever felt like your parents were driving you crazy by not listening to you or being unreasonable? This was the problem for Romeo and Juliet. Their parents remained intransigent til it was too late. If their parents had come to an agreement, things would have turned out differently. “My only love sprung from my only hate.”( I, v, 7) In this quote Juliet expresses her frustration in the fact that Romeo is in fact a Montague. She is saddened because she knows that she is an enemy to the Montague, and Romeo vice
While reading Shakespeare's play “Romeo and Juliet” it is easy to see that everybody in the story is at fault for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Personally however, I believe that three of the main characters are more at fault then the other characters. First is Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend. Next is Benvolio, nephew of Lord Montague and Romeo’s other friend. Last is Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet Franciscan Priest. In a story of unorthodox love, family feuding, and violence, many are at blame for the deaths.
The love that Romeo and Juliet share completely opposes the deep roots of anger and hate between their parents. The quote from the Chorus best states this. Chorus: Two houses, both alike in dignity ? From ancient grudge break to new mutiny ? A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life: Whose misadventured piteous overthrows, Doth with their death bury their
It is human nature to place blame and point fingers at someone, but it is a lot less common to take responsibility for your own actions. Sometimes, we put ourselves in positions that are detrimental to our lives or well-being. Even though we are responsible, it is likely that we will place the blame elsewhere. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio found himself with a similar conflict. Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, killed Mercutio during a fight in the town square. It would be easy to say that Tybalt caused Mercutio’s death since it was his sword that killed him, but that is simply false. Mercutio ignored many warnings and continued to antagonize the fight that lead to his death. The character ultimately responsible for Mercutio’s death is
The leading force, in my opinion, that led to Romeo and Juliet's death is the conflict between the two fathers, Capulet and Montague. It's because of this conflict that Romeo and Juliet feel they must hide their love, which, in the end, is the cause of their deaths. Because of this conflict, confrontations occurred and insults were thrown. Hatred is bred which is evident when Tybalt, who is Lady Capulet's nephew, joins the fight against the Montague family. Tybalt hates Romeo and doesn't hesitate to let it be known.
The Significance of Mercutio in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers whose families are at war and how the two overcome the family feud for their love for each other. Mercutio is one of the central characters in the play; he is one of the prince's kinsmen and is best friend to Romeo of the Montague. household. The sand is a sand. The name Mercutio is derived from the word mercurial which means eloquent, active and changeable; Mercutio is all three.
I believe these feelings transferred to the two families’ offspring, causing them to be born with a hatred for the opposing family. Due to this constant war between the families, Romeo and Juliet seem to have been trying to go against their respective parents, and be together, in what I believe, was an act of rebellion, something which is very common and occurs a lot still now. “Adolescent rebellion begins as a result of the desire for independence. It is a developmental norm. In fact, if you have the sneaking suspicion that teenage rebellion may be inevitable, you’re right! Pretty much every teenager will test the limits – and even cross the line – at one time or another.”
A young girl, like Juliet can be mesmerized by the idea of love and have the thought in her head that love is all that matters. The intensity of love in both of these texts becomes a dangerous and violent thing. Juliet goes through physical pain stabbing herself so she could be with Romeo after his death. Juliet looks at death as a positive thing because it allows her to be with Romeo again. Before she kills herself she says, “O, happy dagger, this is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die” (Shakespeare V.iii.174-175). In most romantic tales, violence is the last thing you would think of when it comes to love, but it would be different in this play. In both of these texts we see love destroy people mentally and physically; instead of bring happiness to their lives. When Juliet notices that Romeo drank poison and had killed himself, she was not only upset about his death but also seemed more upset that he “left no friendly drop to help me after! I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them” (Shakespeare V.iii.168-170). This bond that seems to be unbreakable between them causes more harm than it would have if they were not together like society would want them to be. During this time period in the 16th century, the parents usually arranged marriages, so this goes completely against societal
Most people who have read or seen the play Romeo and Juliet would say that the more important characters in the play are Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and the Nurse. Nobody talks about Romeo’s best friend, Mercutio. Even though they are foils, Romeo and Mercutio Mercutio provides comic relief, and he serves as a serious and key character in the play. Without the important character Mercutio, the play of Romeo and Juliet would be a whole different story.
In William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet two young lovers lost their lives when hate and love collided. From the Montagues came Romeo and from the Capulets was Juliet. The two families were feuding and Romeo and Juliet could not stand being without each other. They both killed themselves because they thought life was not worth living without the other. Though there are many who can be blamed for this tragic ending, there are three that are the most responsible. Mercutio, The Nurse, and Friar Laurence are the three that deserve the most blame.
Many were involved in the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet, but only one is to blame. The 1597 play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story. The main characters, Romeo and Juliet meet at a costume party thrown by the Capulets while Romeo is getting over a heartbreak. Juliet's father had other plans for Juliet. He had spoken to the County Paris who wished to marry Juliet. This was the reason for the party. The two were meant to meet and plan for marriage. Things did not go as perfectly as planned. The two lovers, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight and secretly get married less than 24 hours after meeting. The only thing between their undying love is the Capulet and Montague family feud. Little does Juliet
Many people know that Romeo and Juliet commit suicide even before they read the play, but do they know why? Yes, they weren’t accepted together, but there are many reasons to why. There are tons of suicidal desire with Romeo and Juliet, the following are the most major ones that possibly affect smaller feelings. In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, the author emphasizes how only death will let them be together since their families are total opposites, they’re not arranged to be together, and they barely know anything about each other. There’s a lot of possible agreements through discussion that would have prevented them from making such a poor decision.
Romeo and Juliet were constantly thinking rashly and to the extremes. “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of any tower, Or walk in the thievish ways,”(Act IV, Scene I, Lines 76-79). Juliet proceeds to think about taking her life instead of finding a way more reasonable solution. Everytime something goes wrong they threaten to take their lives. This proves that they aren’t mature and therefore that's why they involved the adults in the situation. Secondly, “Well Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight. Let’s see for means. O mischief, thou art swift to enter in the thoughts of desperate men!” (Act V, Scene I, Lines 34-36). Romeo doesn’t go into town and make sure is she was truly dead. If he had collected himself
Throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet cause the deaths of many people such as Tybalt and Paris. They both die because Romeo thinks Juliet is "dead" so he takes a poison and Juliet wakes up to see Romeo dead so she then kills herself because she can't go on in life without her "love" Romeo. Tybalt killed Mercutio because Mercutio took Romeo's place when the two groups were fighting. They were fighting because of the fighting between the Capulets and the Montagues. Then Romeo killed Tybalt because he killed Romeos best friend Mercutio and he cared for him so much and he had died from Tybalt's hand so Romeo kills Tybalt. Romeo also kills Paris because he loved Juliet so much and just wanted to take the poison and lay beside his wife that was "dead' but Paris was interfering with it. This is young love and that only leads to bad luck and character
It wasn’t one thing that caused Romeo and Juliet to kill themselves but many separate factors that worked together to contribute to this sad ending. Like in life, many things are to blame for an incident, not just one. Three of the main reasons they died were, Friar Laurence's fatal mistake, their shared characteristic of impulsiveness and their families feud. This famous love story shows us that with almost everything, there is more than one cause.
Throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet, there are multiple major themes that create the conflict. One of those themes is hatred. The two families, Montagues, and Capulets have had their feud for a long time and there is no stopping it. This feud has led the families to not pay attention to their children to their full potential. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the feuds between the Montagues and Capulets have made the adults focus more on their status proving adults are self-involved.
