Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, has attained worldwide recognition and acclaim since it came out. The unique worldview and human values in the film have profoundly influenced the trend of Japanese animation for more than a decade. The female protag onist, Nausicaä, is portrayed as a kindhearted, courageous, and tenacious heroine who steadily fights for the harmonization of human and nature. The characterization of Nausicaä is so successful that she won the most popular animation character award multiple times since the movie came out. The movie depicts a post-apocalyptic world in the far future. Nausicaä is also a kindhearted and innocent girl who respects every little part about nature. There is another scene where Yupa advised Nausicaä not to touch a wild animal, fox-squirrel because the fox-squirrel is small but really aggressive. However, Nausicaä started trying to make friends with the fox-squirrel, even though it bit her finger. After seeing Nausicaä’s blood, the fox-squirrel’s aggressiveness suddenly disappeared and it licked her finger to heal the wound. From this little thing we can tell that Nausicaä is really kind to every creature. From the movie, we can also tell that Nausicaä is a strong-minded girl that considers and respect each person’s life. For instance, Nausica lost her temper and killed several Tolmekian soldiers after they murdered her father. However, she calmed down after realizing that unbalancing power of each side. Not only does she gives up on revenging for her father, but also she tries to prevent villagers from fighting against invaders.
