Women are often referred to as weak and definitely not heroic in mythology. However, Atalanta definitely contradicts this as she showed many people that they were wrong. She is very inspirational as not many people believed in her and she proved to them that she was capable. Atalanta is a hero. She is independant, she is always positive and she is an exceptional huntress.

First, Atalanta is very independent which is definitely a heroic characteristic. Her father wanted a baby boy, so when Atalanta was born, he was very mad and left her in a forest so that she would die. However, a few bears found her before anything could attack her, and they raised her as their own. Even though she didn't have any parents growing up, she showed a lot of independence and courage as she became a great huntress on her own. Atalanta also knew what she valued, and she protected those values when she was in trouble. She wanted to stay a virgin, and when people came to attack her, she fought them off in order to protect what she believed in. When she was waiting for someone to beat her in a race so she could marry them, she fell in love with a man she was racing. Instead of being competitive and trying to beat him, she let him win so that they could live a happy life. She had a good attitude about the whole situation which was heroic. Atalanta is also very passionate and happy while she is hunting which helps her do well and improve. Even though her father abandoned her, she didn’t hold a grudge when she returned to him many years later. Not holding a grudge and having a positive attitude showed she was the better person, which benefited her because she became closer with her dad.
