Music from the civil war is huge. It impacted the outcome of the war and some say that the confederate a would've won if they had music like the north did. So as you can see music plays a huge role. If you have ever listened to music you know that it calms you or can change how you act. Listening to music can get you hyped and make you feel different. That's why before sports games athletes listen to music to get pumped. So you can see why music plays such a massive role in this war. You may of heard of the famous tune from the civil war called, When Johnny Comes Marching Home. This song would be sang among soldiers. It gave them something to do and to consume time because these soldiers aren't having the best of it. It gives soldiers something to be proud of and to cheer about. In the song it says many things about when the soldier Johnny comes home and how they'll cheer and shout. This gives soldiers something to fight for. They hear this music and think that people care for them and want to win the war so they can go marching home. This song had a huge impact on soldiers. This song gave families back at home hope that …show more content…
Robert E Lee stated,"I don't believe we could have an army without music." So music meant a lot to these soldiers and what Robert E Lee means is that they need music for the war. Music does really mean a lot to these war soldiers. There are so many songs that mean a whole lot. One of those songs is Bonnie Blue Flag. This song a says many things to show pride. The opening part says, "We are a band of brothers and native to the soil, fighting for Liberty." This says a whole lot about pride. This song was sung together, and it gave them pride and hope for a good outcome. Relating back to my life, whenever I need some certain emotion or feeling I can go back to music. Music is therapy and aid at the same time. It is no wonder why these soldiers relied on music so
This affects each soldier when the war is finished. When a soldier returns back to his home after the war, he is unable to escape his primitive feelings of survival.
While soldiers are away from home, many things might change that they aren’t there for, for example, family problems and disasters. In addition, veterans might come home to a whole different world than when they left, and this already makes their lives more challenging to go with these changes. In addition, soldiers might also come back with physical injuries, like a lost limb, or loss of hearing. As a result, this makes everyday tasks much harder than they actually are. Veterans also might be mentally scarred from war. For example, a mental disorder called post traumatic stress disorder, makes life for the veteran and family much
The impact of the Vietnam War upon the soldiers who fought there was huge. The experience forever changed how they would think and act for the rest of their lives. One of the main reasons for this was there was little to no understanding by the soldiers as to why they were fighting this war. They felt they were killing innocent people, farmers, poor hard working people, women, and children were among their victims. Many of the returning soldiers could not fall back in to their old life styles. First they felt guilt for surviving many of their brothers in arms. Second they were haunted by the atrocities of war. Some soldiers could not go back to the mental state of peacetime. Then there were soldiers Tim O’Brien meant while in the war that he wrote the book “The Things They Carried,” that showed how important the role of story telling was to soldiers. The role of stories was important because it gave them an outlet and that outlet was needed both inside and outside the war in order to keep their metal state in check.
The reality of war changed many soldiers' lives because of nightmares from firefights and small skirmishes to bombings and atrocities. Many places from Saigon to Khe Sanh are filled with stories from many veterans. A letter from a marine fighting in Khe Sanh said to his Parents "Since we began, we have lost 14 KIA and 44 men WIA. Our company is cut down to half strength, and I think we will be going to Okinawa to regroup. I hope so anyway because I have seen enough of war and its destruction." From the death of close friends any person's emotions would crumble. A normal everyday business person in the shoes of this soldier wouldn't last a day. The experience a soldier goes through will change his view on life forever. This is just showing how it affects people. Seeing death and killing on a daily basis. The random occurrence of death would truly disturb any person. Seeing the death of friends and mangled bodies of South Vietnamese villagers left by Vietcong guerillas, the soldiers were left with the vivid visions of the bodies.
One important feature found in ancient Greek culture is the music. Music is considered to be important as it creates an atmosphere during events such as wars, festivals, and other occasions. This element stands for sophistication, wealth, and power in a kingdom. When music is played during wars, it gives a type of tense feeling where it conveys a message reporting that both sides will never admit defeat until there is no more mercy to be held. During festivals, the music provides a light, and happy atmosphere where all people enjoy activities and food.
Throughout time, music has been an influential part of society. As a form of entertainment and expression, its impact has always been felt both economically and emotionally. During the Vietnam war, music evolved into more a form of expression rather than pure entertainment. Emotionally charged songs became a method to oppose the war, and vent frustrations. While many songs opposed the war, numerous others focused on peace and happiness. They provided a positive perspective in an otherwise depressing time. Along with incorporating passion into music, cultural diversity increased in music greatly. Black artists became progressively more popular and accepted in the musical scene. This respect carried over to society slowly but surely. During the Vietnam war, music played a crucial role in the societal evolution into a state where emotions fueled actions, more emphasis was put on equality, all opinions counted.
Since the earliest days of human civilization music has been a key tool for communication of stories which carried emotions through them. If we think back to our youngest years of life music has surrounded us whether it was from our parents singing us lullabies or from some sort of toy that played music we can say that musical melodies have helped shape or lives one way or another. Once we start growing up and figuring out who we are our musical preferences change; some people like classical and some like punk. We start to befriend people who like the same music as us and eventually we may attend a musical event. Our lives somewhat revolve around the music that we listen to.
It is difficult to show the effects of music on the individual, but it is easy to see how the individual chooses genres of music based on mood. The soldiers in Iraq, for instance, listened to a song by the band Drowning Pool titled, “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor,” over the speakers in their tanks. After listening to the song it would be easy to see that they didn’t just choose the song because they thought it pertained to their current situation. The song is loud, fast, and hard. The song fueled the soldiers. I don’t think that it made them into bloodthirsty savages, but I do think that it pumped them up with adrenaline. Walk into any random Gold’s Gym and I’m sure you will not hear classical or new age music, but instead some sort of rock. David in the Bible played music to soothe Saul. Due to David’s harp and voice Saul calmed down and fell asleep. This is present even in today’s society. After work, school, or any other long, exhausting event, it isn’t uncommon for people to go home and put on some soothing music in order to cure them of their horrible day.
Music is an art and a wonderful gift to human race. It soothes, stimulates and makes us feel happy. It affects our moods in many different ways from lullaby to war cry for changes in the society. Music is actually distinct to different people. Above all, it has a transformational importance that is captured in its art and nature. Music draws our emotions and it has an impact of bridging different cultures across the continents. Slave songs were very vital channels through which all kind of information was conveyed both positive and negative.
Music is an important aspect of every society. Music can tell stories, release emotions, build bridges and break down barriers, but above all, music is entertaining. There are various forms of music, but not many have as rich a history as gospel music. The importance of gospel music has been relevant in American music for more than a century, and its importance to society is still relevant to this day (See Appendix A). Gospel music helped slaves escape to freedom and paved the way for other styles of music.
Songs were important to all Civil War soldiers. It encouraged both soldiers and civilians, and music provided inspiration and a way to handle the emotional strains of battle for soldiers. For those living in camps, the music that was most enjoyed was a mixture of tenderness and patriotism (Barney 208-209). Many instruments were used to produce music. Banjos, fiddles, and harmonicas are a few of the instruments that soldiers purchased or created (“19th Century American Theater”). During the Civil War, there was a large amount of growth in the publishing of sheet music. In fact, a cabinet was reserved just for holding sheet music in the homes of some middle-class families (Huntington). In camps, music was used for two purposes. Field music was used to signal soldiers in battle and in camp activities. Band music was played during battles to inspire and encourage. Music was a great form of entertainment that aided emotionally for both soldiers and civilians
At the beginning of World War I, music was a propaganda used to inspire loyalty and a sense of patriotism. After the song “Over There” written by George M. Cohan, came out, many men, young and old signed up for the army to go overseas. Women at home played a different role while their husbands were in the war. This song had great...
Music plays a huge role in the structure of a society. It can have both negative and positive influence on cultures and communities. First, musical sounds and instruments can be a dividing factor between the people within the same culture. These opposing social and economic identities within these cultures can lead unnecessary animosity between the members. However, music can also be one of the forces that unite members of a culture and provide a sense pride for everyone. This makes it easier for people to display their identification to that culture.
Music is a major form of media that everyone is exposed to from a very young age. It is also a form of media that can have profound effects on the way we think, act, and even feel. An example of this would be some of the studies that have shown a correlation between people who listen to heavy metal music and mental illness such as ADHD or depression. This is not a causal relationship, however, which is probably good considering the fact that this is actually the type of music that I most frequently find myself listening to.
Also, music plays an important role in culture by being entertaining. Let's face it; people listen to music because it's exciting! It can affect a person's thoughts and feelings towards a particular subject, but not ultimately change their mind, which is what makes it so pleasurable. What else would put life in the world if music didn't? Music provides background music for almost everything in a person's everyday life. Try to imagine what television would be like without music. There would be no catchy jingles to stupid commercials that would end up getting stuck in your head for days and no theme songs to your favorite shows. Even a movie without sound would make you not want to watch it. Whether you think so or not, a soundtrack to a movie makes a person emote to the screenplay more- it makes you feel what the actors are feeling. That is what makes it so entertaining! If there were no songs to a movie, you might as well just not watch it at all. And what about a cell phone? How would you know when to pick up your phone if you didn't hear it ring your favorite song? Hearing that ring tone on a phone provides a small source of entertainment, but also serves a very important purpose.
