A significant aspect for program planners must keep in mind the various aspects of the planning process which affect their decision making, including human, organization, and environmental facets. All the information could be found online. Technology plays a great factor for presenting and providing new resources, because participants want to learn new ways. Before showing or giving information the program planner should give a little background of what they are about to see or read, making the participants aware of the information. If assumed that participants already have the background information, it could lead to confusion. The video shown at the program was outdated and had poor quality resolution. Similar videos can be found on the web with great information. There are different types of participants that learn differently than others, the presenter should take into consideration different ways to give the information such as visuals (updated videos, photographs, handouts, etc.) For these reasons, the program planner should also take into consideration the knowledge of the participants, because some have more experience than others. Showing the same information from other workshops that participants have attended are, at times, not received well because of the repeated information. The “Five Stages of Revolution” model can be applied to Egypt’s revolution, as well as some aspects of the J. Brown Paradigm of National Development, such as the Identifiable People Group, presented themselves throughout Egypt’s conflict.
This video was about making a clearer and more interesting introduction. It was effective as the woman talked about the different levels of an introduction and how it should be presented. The diagrams and examples were very useful.
There is no lack of visual aids in this video. The entire video is filled with graphs and animation. The use of graphs alone may not have kept the audience as involved. Each graph is presented and is seemingly linked to next through smooth animations. The graphs are presented in a array of colors. However, the colors aren’t to busy as this may strew viewers away from watching all six minutes. The unique pairing of graphs and animation creates a smooth transition from topic to topic. This allows for the audience to follow the meaning of the video. All graphs are explained through the voice-over and a key is also presented. This allowed for the information to broadcasted to the audience clearly and meaningfully. The simplistic way in which this is done is of great value to understanding of the topic to the audience.
One of the most misunderstood characters in Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea is Christophine. Christophine was a wedding present to Antoinette’s mother, and she was a slave in their family since then. The reason that she comes off as so misunderstood is because it is never revealed explicitly in the text whether she is “good” or “bad”. Her involvement in the practice of obeah adds to the mysterious air about her in the novel. Obeah is a practice that is not an official religion, but there is a community who are involved in the practice that has “a wide variety and range of beliefs and practices related to the control or channeling of supernatural/spiritual forces” (Bilby 153). The practices are done “by particular individuals or groups for their own needs, or on behalf of clients who come for help” (Bilby 154). The practice has gone from having an acceptable reputation to a negative one. As the years went on in times of slavery, and especially during post-emancipation times, obeah gained more of a reputation as witchcraft or sorcery and it was said that it was used to bring harm to people (Bilby 153). The positive aspects of obeah were soon paid minimal attention, and the negative aspects and disapproving stereotypes were on the rise. The negativity was so prevalent and contagious that some West Indians who were involved in the practice began to have a pessimistic view as well (Bilby 153). This negative view followed obeah into the novel Wide Sargasso Sea. The practice was shown in a very negative light in the novel, especially through Christophine. Some barriers I faced while I was preparing the teaching project was trying to word the project so that the group could understand it. In addition, I had problems with trying to avoid giving to much information because I didn't want them to become disinterested. The developmental characteristics of the respective group helped me format the project suitable for learning and relevant to the participants. This was done so that effective teaching was done. Changes that I would consider if i had to do it again would be to post signs prior to the presentation so that perhaps more people would come and join.
“The Broken Escalator” video teaches us if we get stuck on something to not just sit there, that we can move on to something else and not just wait until it comes to you. It also teaches us that if we fall behind, we can take a few steps everyday to get back up with the rest of the class again, and be on the same level. “The Marshmallow Test” video teaches us that if we are patient and listen to the instructions that were given to us, we will be rewarded and succeed, and move further along/ahead
Social Security is a major social program that provides benefits to multiple groups of people within the United States. These benefits include payments for pensions, disability, and unemployment compensation just to name a few. The majority of social security beneficiaries are retired workers and the remaining are pension recipients, disabled workers, dependent spouses, and children of retired or deceased workers respectively (Hyman, 2011). Social Security is financed through a taxpayer payroll tax, in addition to an employer’s portion that is matched and paid directly to the government on a quarterly basis. The employer portion of Social Security is usually not transparent to employees, but is a requirement for companies by law. In addition, self-employed individuals are also required by law to pay their own portions of OASDI and Medicare. Overall, the eligibility requirements for Social Security benefits are based on paying a tax through a place of employment and can be collected once workers have reached their assigned retirement age or become disabled. The employee and employer contribution rate is 6.2% (7.65% include FICA), up to the maximum wage base of $113,700.
As we discussed the potential of such software we realized this might be a way for our students who missed class to not miss out on learning. Thus, we began to record our live lessons using screen capture software. We posted our lectures online so our students could access them. When we did this, YouTube was just getting started and the world of online video was just in its infancy. In all honesty, we recorded our lessons out of selfishness. We were spending inordinate amounts of time re-teaching lessons to students who missed class, and the recorded lectures became our first line of defense.
One of the growing trends in teen drug use today is the abuse of over the counter (OTC) drugs. There are a lot reasons that teenagers choose to abuse OTC drugs. One main reason is because drug stores makes it easier to get a hold of them rather than illegal drugs. Also, these OTC drugs are often referred to as "safer" than illegal drugs. For majority of teens, using over the counter drugs gives them “a buzz” or it helps them stay awake while studying. Which is not a problem in their mind, but every time any over the counter drugs or medications are consumed for something other than what it has been created for, or taking a dosage higher than the recommended dose, abuse of that drug has now taken place. The abuse of OTC drugs are starting to increasingly play a bigger part of the teenage culture. Unfortunately, lots of these teens fail to realize that they are endangering their wellbeing when they abuse OTC drugs.
Since the recent terrorist attacks on the United States of America, politicians and policy makers are considering anti-terrorist legislation. This would include plans to implement a national identification card. The proposed national identification cards would include features such as magnetic stripes, holograms, and integrated circuits. “This magnetic stripe is expected soon to contain a digitized fingerprint, retina scan, voice print, and other biometric identifiers, and it will leave an electronic trail every time you use it”(1). I feel that since September 11, 2001, many Americans feel insecure and unsafe. Research done by the Pew Research Center shows that, “seven out of ten Americans favor a national-ID card program in which like the French system, the cards would have to be presented to the police upon demand”(2).
Reason for audience to listen: Most of us did not have a lot of technology in school when we were younger, but we all can see how that has changed throughout the years.
Having students teach each other is a way to promote a deeper learning of the content. Teaching to others promotes independence and confidence. This activity also improves the student’s public speaking skills. It also is a good stepping stone to the necessary presentations and performance assessments. Performing for an audience that will actually provide feedback is a new concept for most. This is an area that will need plenty of positive reinforcement and skill development. In the course itself and in each module students would be provided with opportunities to interact and connect with other students and the instructor. Discussion boards were built into each module to facilitate communication, collaboration, and interactivity. Additional group exercises were developed to further foster the development of collaboration and community building within the course.
Face-to-face communication allows the entire experience to not only be heard but also seen and felt. Face-to-face training also adds a personal element to a workshop as opposed to computer-based education. “
