I. Introduction a. Attention getter statement: Technology, we all use it every single day of our lives. There are many benefits of using in our everyday lives, but at some points we take it to the extreme. One of those places is in the classroom. b. Credibility Statement: When I was younger, we did not have all this technology in my classrooms like kids have today. We did not have smartboards, our own laptops, or even iPads. c. Reason for audience to listen: Most of us did not have a lot of technology in school when we were younger, but we all can see how that has changed throughout the years. d. With those reasons, it shows how technology can lead to being very distracting. Along with technology being a distraction, it can also cause students to be less social. b. Kids will be less social i. With all the social networking apps and chat apps, kids are starting to use those more than actual face to face interactions. They find it easier just to text someone how to do something instead of meeting up with them as having them explain it to them in person. With having face-to-face interactions, “students can form friendships and relationships with their peer” according to the article “5 Problems with Technology in the Classroom” by Heick. ii. Counterargument: Using technology can be helpful for when kids cannot meet up with each other. In Ben Johnson’s article ‘Too Much Technology and Not Enough Learning?” he does point out “Of course, if geographically disparate groups of students need to collaborate, technology certainly can help, but even still it can never fully replace face-to-face interaction”. iii.
