What’s Math Got To Do With It? is a book that speaks on how mathematics is taught in the classroom. The battle between the reform way of teaching compare to the traditional way of teaching, and Boaler goes into great detail to explain the difference between the two. She provides research on studies that she does at varies schools to see how each method is being used in the school and the effectiveness of these methods. All of her research points to one way ultimately being more stimulating to the students mind compare to the other.
Boaler speaks on the how students learn this traditional way of mathematics, but it’s not how mathematicians go about doing their work. She speaks on how a few students became mathematicians not all because of what they experienced in the classroom but some from what they came across throughout their education. She opens up the book with details about the reform way of teaching and compare it to the traditional way of teaching. This affects the students greatly because you have teachers who are teaching a way that is ineffective compare to another way. Therefore students are not understanding the importance of mathematics nor are they being able to see the relevance of it in the classroom.

very entertaining and engaging. I believe that what Boaler spoke of in this book is exactly what I believe math should look like. A classroom where students are able to think critically about mathematical methods. A classroom where students can talk to their classmates about strategies to figure out a problem. An interactive classroom that contains projects to help the students grow and develop their problem-solving skills. I like how Boaler provides us with her research and explain the numbers of how successful the reform way of teaching is compare to the traditional way. At the end of the day it’s about what I students can take out of the lesson that will make the
