What Makes a Great Film?
With movies, you are able to travel back in time and explore unknown eras. If you rather race ahead of your century, they can also hurl you into the future. You can easily become indulged in a mystery, fall in love in a romance, test your fright in a horror, or make the scientific impossible possible in a science fiction. Movies are movies. They provide entertainment by immersing people into an imaginary world. However, these movies or films need to have certain qualities in order to provide this form of entertainment and to be notable. Hence, these qualities would have to contribute in making a great film. This would point to the question of what is it that really makes a great film.
Firstly, one of the qualities that can truly contribute in the making of a great film is a strong cast. It would seem the case that in order for a film to be prominent, a fine story should be the main priority. However, with strong actors and actresses in a film, they are capable of transforming even a tedious storyline in an attention grabbing story. This can be said by being done with the actors being at tune with the characters they portray. When this is done, characters themselves would seem to stand out in a film. Hence, it can be said that distinctive characters would have the tendency to make a story interesting, and they would usually appeal to an audience by being unique. For instance, in the classical 1947 movie, “A Street Car Named Desire”, strong emotional scenes were seen in the majority of the movie. However, a cast of fine actors was responsible for bringing the characters to life. As a result, this movie achieved four Oscars in the actors’ category alone. In addition, in this movie, actor Marlon Brando so skillfully portrayed his character with his flawless performance, that he left an indelible mark on audiences. Hence, this goes to show that a strong cast is one factor in making a movie grand.
Secondly, as with actors bringing characters to life, a movie needs a dominant director to bring it to life. Generally, the role of the director is to set or put in the scenes of the film. In order to make the film distinguished, a powerful director is able to combine skillfully the elements or features that make up a scene. This includes the action, composition, sets and props, lighting, costumes, and make up. These things can be said ...

...es. Even though these images would appear real, they need to be accompanied by a certain coolness feature in order to be convincing. An example of this is the Matrix movies, which if it wasn’t for its coolness effect, would not have attracted audiences, and hence be classed as great movies. This shows that the special effects of the past and those of the present, has greatly changed the way we define a great film.
In conclusion, it is worth stating that there are certain characteristics that stand out in a great film. For one, there should be a strong cast and a dominant director. With these two aspects, the standard of a film is greatly increased. Also the musical score and special effects added to a film, can raise the plateau in making it notable. It can also be seen that the criteria for making a film great, has changed over the years. What once made a film stand out in the past, doesn’t make it at present. However, this generally goes to the special effect features. Nevertheless, it can be said overall, that all these characteristics resulted in the creation of a great film, in ground breaking style and as a result, this has helped us define cinema or a film as we know it.
The “Era of Good Feelings,” beginning after the war of 1812 and lasting into the 1820s, is typically represented as a positive time in American history full of nationalism. However, in considering this time period, one remember to examine both the positive nationalistic perspective and the negative sectionalist perspective. Socially, after the war of 1812, the American morale was strengthened and nationalism grew. Politically, the collapse of the Federalist party after the Hartford convention lead to a more united voting population, having only one viable party to vote for. Economically, the national bank expanded its power and protective tariffs were issued, which were looked upon negatively in the south, causing division
It has led to many devastating losses throughout history, yet on the other side it has “resolved” conflict when the conflict was too troublesome to talk through. After the War of 1812, America was heading into one of the the worst depressions ever in American history. Despite the many failures, the time after the war were known as “The Era of good feelings.” This was an inaccurate label for the selected time period. It is inaccurately labelled the “Era of Good Feelings” because of the weak economy, the terrible attempts of the government to keep the U.S. as one nation, and different views on slavery. As Andrew Jackson once said, “Peace, above all things, is to be desired, but blood must sometimes be spilled to obtain it on equable and lasting
Aspirin is also known as Acetylsalicylic acid. It is composed of nine Carbon atoms, eight Hydrogen atoms, and four Oxygen atoms. There are many chemical properties to it. The melting point of aspirin is about one hundred and thirty-five degrees Celsius and the boiling point is one hundred and forty degrees Celsius. It has a density of 1.35 grams per milliliter and the molar mass is 180,160 g/mol (1). This means that the molecule is relatively dense. There is more weight than there is volume. Aspirin is described as odorless and colorless to where the color is white. It looks like a crystal-line powder at room temperature. It is a relatively stable molecule that should be stored at room temperature (2).
After the war of 1812, the period that followed was viewed as an “Era of Good Feelings”, mainly because of the emergence of one national party-the Republicans-and the growth of nationalism and a feeling of pride and national unity. However, this title was not correct for this time period, as sectionalism-the idea of being more concerned with the interests of you particular group or nation that with the interests of the larger group or country- began to grow and outweigh the nationalists-those who were loyal and proud to and believed of the importance of their country. Sectionalism brought with it tensions and conflict between the North and South, especially over tariffs, the National Bank, and slavery, which suggested that this era was not entirely full of “Good Feelings”.
What components make a movie successful in cinema? Filmmakers have crafted a formula to successfully deliver the hero narrative. This formula consists of the hero’s journey and archetypes. Hero films typically follow a ten-step sequence to properly set up and execute the hero’s journey. These movies range from stories of transformations, searches, or a journey back home. Archetypes are used to employ character profile as well as add variety and depth to these stories. Ridley Scott directed Alien, in which Ellen Ripley embarks on a journey where she must survive an alien who is out on a murderous rampage and return back to Earth. Alien adds originality to its storyline by choosing a female lead instead of a male, but the film still incorporates the same heroic attributes that make a story successful. In this “going home journey” film, Scott is able to incorporate the hero’s journey and the official hero archetype towards the heroine Ellen Ripley.
With many different genres and types of filmmaking, it can result in a large variety of stories and conflicts. Nevertheless, film has always brought people together as a society. If there is one thing everyone can notice about films is the achievement in style and directing. The three directors talked about in this paper are the most successful at delivering a breathtaking style and direction to their films. Baz Luhrmann, Wes Anderson, and Martin Scorsese have produced and directed films over decades and each film as impacted not only the United States but worldwide. With the unmistakable trademarks that each director has, it is very easy to feel sucked into the world in which they are shaping around you and the story. Because of these three directors, the film world and industry has been revolutionized for many centuries to come.
The debate over Casablanca and Citizen Kane has been a classic argument between film critics and historians alike because both of these pieces contain great cinematographic value, and are timeless pictures that have managed to captivate audiences well beyond their era. However, the real question at hand is which film is the greatest? Which film transformed the future of American film making? It is these questions that I as many others have, will attempt to answer in the following essay as I explain why I believe Citizen Kane has achieved the status of greatest film ever made.
Think about your favorite movie. When watching that movie, was there anything about the style of the movie that makes it your favorite? Have you ever thought about why that movie is just so darn good? The answer is because of the the Auteur. An Auteur is the artists behind the movie. We can start off with something that we all easily take granted for in movies and that is the imagery. We all have imaginations that can produce an accurate image depending on what we read or see, but something the books or plays couldn’t accomplish is give the image to us. So we wouldn’t have to seco...
A crew includes a screenwriter, whose job it is to provide the written blueprint version of the entire film. This is basically the starting point for any movie. Next there is the producer. There are many types of producers; executive producers, co-producers, assistant producers and line producers. They all do very different things. Some are the producers are responsible for raising the funds for the movie while others are responsible for the production that goes on during the filming of the movie and still other producers are in charge of what physically goes on the set. Then it is time for the director. The director is in charge of the actors. The director works with the actors to visually bring to life what was written on the screenplay (Fortunato, Who Does What on a Film). Now the idea needs to come together. The idea of writing, “what you know” is not always true and writing, “what you come to know” is in fact a more accurate way to write. Other good ways to formulate ideas are to use existing plays, novels, short stories, life stories, new articles, or even past TV shows and film. When using existing work a person needs to make sure that one secures the copyrights before starting write. Securing the copyrights does not mean one is finished yet. Now a person needs...
People can feel better about themselves after watching these types of movies. Using these elements together, it makes the movie better, but not only that, but each element helps each other out in the scene to make it a very good movie
...verything around us is made by our actions. Positive or negative they cause an effect that will ultimately lead to a different story base on how we interpret life. Narrative elements are used as a bridge by the directors in their film to create any master plot that is currently known. Any modification at any narrative element used by the director at important moments inside the story can help you portray a different master plot. This used of narrative elements can be best described as an ever changing process that takes place inside an individual’s head. Depending on the individual that may be exposed to those narrative elements can create different meanings. This new interpretation can be different for everyone. We have to be aware that one change in the surface scenery can lead to many ideal outcomes in our minds and that is the main power the audience has.
This maximises the intermolecular forces between the chains as they are able to pack closely together. However, this reduces the flexibility and is therefore quite rigid and strong. This isotactic polyvinyl chloride structure occurs very little. Another structure that is produced very little is the syndiotactic PVC. The syndiotactic PVC has a regular arrangement and has similar properties of flexibility, rigidity and strength to the isotactic PVC as shown in Figure #.
The blockbusters seem to do this with either extrodinary story telling or fantastivc performances from the actors themselves. I believe you do need those points to make a blockbuster but i would be wrong. Time and time again movies who critics believe to be of absoltely no intelligent or remote disticion of a decent plot turn out to suprise us all. Why is this, my opinion they made us
