People perceptions differ from those of someone with different cultural backgrounds. For instance, a Middle Eastern, Muslim woman wearing the hijab (clothing that covers everything but the eyes and hands) may look at a women from the United States who is scantily clad and may think to herself, "Nothing covered but her eyes, what a cruel male-dominated culture. The same U.S. woman may look at the Middle Eastern woman and say to herself, "Everything covered but her eyes, what a cruel male-dominated culture." What kind of experiences would lead to differences in cultural perspectives? Provide a specific example of how two people may behave differently in the same situation based on cultural experiences or differing perceptions. Two people can go through the same situation, but experience a different outcome due to their diverse cultural perspectives. I think beauty and attractiveness can be influenced by cultural perspectives. Bottom-up refers to the way it is built up from the smallest pieces of sensory information. When people look at a person we innately look for symmetry line in their face. It is stated that symmetry in faces and objects determines beauty. Top-down processing, on the other hand, refers to perception that is driven by cognition. Your brain applies what it knows and what it expects to perceive and fills in the blanks, so to speak. I believe attractiveness is a top-down process. When I look at a woman I break down her physical features and build them back together and I decide if I am attractive to her physically.
