Laws, values, morals and, societal norms often lead to mental and/or physical oppression towards women in most modern and occidental countries. Middle Eastern countries enforce women to be entirely covered with the Niqab or the Hijab. On the other hand, modern societies consider that a free woman is the one that is not wearing any veil over her head. While contrasting both situations, one can believe than the uncovered and semi naked woman posting for a magazine cover page is luckier in terms of freedom than the covered woman. The author, Lulu Garcia Navarro explains what are the major similarities in countries sharing diverse ideologies, restricting women’s freedom differently and, sometimes involuntarily. In this article about sexism, Garcia Navarro explains what major obstacles women face when it comes to their mental, moral and, physical rights and freedom in Brazil and Afghanistan. As stated above, female image is presented as sexual objects. In the Middle East countries, the government, cultural and religious beliefs enforce women to cover their body and head. We perceive this as a restriction of freedom because the women submit to those rules without us knowing or, paying attention to the real roots of this submission. But, what about in societies where not being covered means being free? Fitting into the society means looking like the well-shaped lady wearing a two-piece bikini pictured and presented in the cover page of a magazine.
