Have you ever wondered how people became great and what it took for them to become great. People used to think that you were born with greatness. Author Geoff Colvin wrote an article called, “ What It Takes To Be Great”, that explains what you need to do in order to become great or talented. Colvin says in the article that it takes deliberate practice. For example you can practice dribbling a basketball for 30 minutes everyday for a month. Or you could practice shooting a basketball in the same place for 45 minutes everyday to improve your shooting in that one shot.

Do different types of drills to fit what you want to improve in. To start, if you want to get better at dribbling a basketball, you can dribble 15 minutes with your left hand and another 15 minutes with your right hand for a week. After that you can do laps while dribbling a basketball to get used to running with the ball. Then, once you get used to running with the ball, get some cones do some drills that involve fast pace movement with the ball. Put multiple cones down in different places near each other and do different moves to get past them, and once you learn and master those drills, move on to harder drills. Practice different moves with the basketball like passing it through your legs and behind your back for 15 minutes. When you notice you are getting better start doing the drills faster. Have a friend or a parent guard you while you play to see how the moves would work in an actual basketball game. If you want to practice your 3 pointers shoot around the 3 point line. Shoot all around the 3 point line and see how much you make. Keep shooting all around the line until you make all of them.
