How to Shoot a Basket In basketball, the goal is to win the game. To do that your team needs to make more baskets than the opponent. So, I am going to teach you how to shoot correctly just in case you ever find yourself playing in a game. You need to have the correct form, proper stance, jump, and follow through. First, you must have the correct form. To shoot, you must remember that you use one hand not two. The second hand is there to guide the ball to make sure you shoot it straight. So, you will put your dominate hand under the bottom of the basketball and your other hand, the guide hand, on the side of the ball. The only time you shouldn’t jump is when you are shooting a free, which is also known as a set shot. You want to jump when shooting perimeter shots because the distance between you and the basket is greater than it is when shooting a free throw. By jumping, you will be using the strength of both your arms and legs to help you get the ball all the way to the rim. The final thing you need to know when shooting a basket is to follow through. To follow through correctly, pretend you are getting a cookie out of the cookie jar on the top shelf. Reach your arm out and up while having a bend in your wrist. That should help you picture what your arm should look like on the follow through. So when you shoot it, force your arm up and out at the same time as flicking your wrist.
