Social Studies is a field that children will be able to learn and understand about themselves and how they relate to their family and community. Social Studies has many subjects for the kids. Like Social Studies isn’t just learning about the past, it also involves the children’s living skills, and their understanding of time(past present future). The children might not learn in the same pace but they all have the same goal. The universal design for learning (UDL) offers a least restrictive and inclusive approach that best support the development for all children. Each child will reach the learning goals in different ways and at a different paces.
RIELDS says that the importance of Social Studies is that it will help the children have a broader context of the world surrounding them. Also it will have them think beyond their home and childhood classroom. In RIELDS it states that it is important that Social Studies involves the children’s ability to understand their relation to their family, and the community. The learning goals in RIELDS also apply to kids with disabilities “ Children with disabilities may demonstrate alternate ways of meeting the goals of social Studies development”. In the quote from RIELDS it’s saying that the kids with disabilities may learn differently but will reach the same learning expectation as the children their age.

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a concept that is used at the point of teachers planning. This idea stems from the field of architecture and attempts to design products and environments so that they are usable by all people, in this case students, to the greatest extent possible without the need for adaption or specialised design. Students with learning disabilities in the regular classroom may have challenges that require special attention. If the teacher is able to identify the disabilities and the features associated with them then the teacher can tailor the lessons to meet the needs of the students. These may include differentiated instruction and facilitating an inclusive classroom which will see inclusive strategies employed that will cater to the needs of students with learning disabilities. These inclusive strategies can range from individualized learning programs to team and co-teaching. In some cases, the teacher can arrange for a special education teacher or arrange for a pull out program to assist students who have learning disabilities. 1. The importance of the study of world history to me personally as an American is very significant because I hope to find a career where I will work with many diverse people and I not only want to know them, but I want to have an understanding of where they came from in order to associate with them better. Another reason is that an American can be from any culture from around the world. Americans aren’t any certain race or religion, so we have to understand our fellow citizens just as they need to understand us. I was in definite need of a course like this because before I started taking this class I had no idea of the simple concept of the different beliefs between Hinduism and Judaism. I had heard of the different religions vaguely in high school, but was never actually taught about them. I didn’t even know that Jews did not eat pig because they thought it was a descendant of the devil. If I weren’t to know that, somewhere down the road I might have offered one of my Jewish friends a ham sandwich and that would have been a very embarrassing situation.
