It’s hard to think of a good movie that takes place before the original Star Wars trilogy. The prequel trilogy is probably one of the greatest examples of “Don’t make that.” Rogue One is a film that takes place about 10 years before the first Star Wars film, and it does a pretty good job of returning you to the universe in which you remember from those films.
Review: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS UNDOES THE PREQUELS
As one of the one-off films that Disney is banking on, Rogue One is a film that really needs to work in the context of the Star Wars universe. Going in to the film, I felt the weight of film on the entire brand, but seeing the crowds that I walked in with, it was common knowledge that the Star Wars brand needed no help in bringing in the masses. Since I went pretty early to see the film there were fans in costumes and swinging light sabers. People of all ages went in there expecting nothing but the ultimate Star Wars experience. Did they

If a film prequel film makes you want to run home to watch the films that come after it, you know you made something good. The moment I got in my car to go home after seeing the film, I knew that I had to head home and watch the originals. It wasn’t like I wanted to, but I really had to. Once you see this film, you can appreciate it even more once you see A New Hope. It’s when you watch the original that you appreciate how well done they did Rogue One.
Not only did they nail it with this film, but they also nailed bringing the stuff you love into different settings. Stormtroopers and battles in a tropical setting? That shouldn’t work, but it does and looks beautiful. We only saw the AT-AT’s in a snow setting, so seeing them walking and blowing stuff up in a setting like that really gets the crowd going. When you hear a “That’s f*cking awesome!” followed by a “Yeah, shhhh!” You know you’re watching something that will make people
I thought Sling Blade was written and filmed well. It did get slow in parts, but overall it kept my attention. I picked up on minute details that on a regular basis I wouldn’t have. This paper made me see the underlying aspects such as the music, lighting, and script. It made me pay attention to what the characters were saying and how they were relating. I now look at film in a new light. I don’t just watch the surface. I dig deeper and watch for everything.
Identify specific elements of a motion picture that film studios look for in a successful movie.
I think that the opening of the film was not as good as the opening of
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today’s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and 6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it’s impact within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy.
...and several more keeps you and your emotions on a roller coaster ride. Which is brilliant because we all know that as humans we adhere to stimulation and that is what it does, it stimulates us by incorporating all these emotions and jumping around with them. With the movie it also adds a score and soundtrack as well as camera shots and things that appeals to our senses that much more. At least it does for me.

What components make a movie successful in cinema? Filmmakers have crafted a formula to successfully deliver the hero narrative. This formula consists of the hero’s journey and archetypes. Hero films typically follow a ten-step sequence to properly set up and execute the hero’s journey. These movies range from stories of transformations, searches, or a journey back home. Archetypes are used to employ character profile as well as add variety and depth to these stories. Ridley Scott directed Alien, in which Ellen Ripley embarks on a journey where she must survive an alien who is out on a murderous rampage and return back to Earth. Alien adds originality to its storyline by choosing a female lead instead of a male, but the film still incorporates the same heroic attributes that make a story successful. In this “going home journey” film, Scott is able to incorporate the hero’s journey and the official hero archetype towards the heroine Ellen Ripley.
Lucas the chance to make a foothold in the film industry, and he certainly did.

Quite possibly one of the most iconic openings in cinematic history is “A Long time ago in a galaxy far far away.” Of course, I am referring to Star Wars. It is such a fascinating and great movie going experience. There have been a total of seven Star Wars films, but in this essay I am going to be focusing on Star Wars: Episode 3- Revenge of the Sith. This film was written and directed by George Lucas and of the science fiction genre. Revenge of the Sith was released in theaters on May 19, 2005.
In 2009 Chimamanda Adichie gave a TED talk about the ‘danger of a single story’. A single story meaning, one thought or one example of a person becoming what we think about all people that fit that description, a stereotype if you will. In today’s America, I believe that we have all felt the wave of stereotypical views at some point or another. Adichie gives many relatable examples throughout her life of how she has been affected by the single story. Her story brings about an issue that all humans, from every inch of the earth, have come to understand on some level. A young child reading only foreign books, a domestic helper that she only perceived as poor. Her college roommates single story about Africans and her own formation of a single
George Lucas wrote and directed Star Wars, he had tons of creative and production control just like Hitchcock. Furthermore, the film demonstrates his aesthetic vision through recurring themes of good verse evil, heroes fighting for good and saving the day. Lastly, the film demonstrates thematic and stylistic consistencies to create the meaningful narrative. One thing that stands out from Star Wars that illustrates George Lucas’ control over the production is the credits. He did not want the credits at the beginning of the film so the audience can focus on the narrative. In the late 1950’s the auteur theory was introduced to filmmaking which created a new way of making films. Auteur theory went against the classical narrative by focusing on realism. Auteur films had ambiguous endings, which deeper into the character’s physiological state. Even though, Star Wars demonstrates certain auteur elements, it does not go against the classical narrative. To conclude, Star Wars mixed classical Hollywood techniques with the auteur theory that lead to a different and unique way of making a
Before I get into why I think Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie, lets go over the plot. Rogue One is
Equally, the film’s visual effects are stunning without being overwhelming or redundant. We do not see action sequences repeated from the first movie but fresh new twists that appear as visual candy. Many sequels simply mirror their predecessor in hopes of striking gold twice, only to fall short. Not so with X2. The filmmakers have taken what was essentially a good movie and built on its foundation to create a second movie, which is not just a flat reflection of the first, but a movie which can stand on its own.
Star Wars is a franchise which has successfully adapted a set of recurring themes throughout its films; themes that keep the audience captivated in the storyline, while at the same time using symbolism to express different thoughts and ideas to help develop the plot. Everything in the films, whether it be a lightsaber, an outfit, or the color of a room, has a hidden significance, greater than is first apparent. The audience is given the option to dig deeper into the symbols displayed through the films and decipher the meanings behind each one. Due to the immense amount of literary devices, such as motifs, themes, and symbols, Star Wars is regarded as one of the most significant film franchises in history.
