I really started to have ‘motherly’ traits in January 2000, when my little sister Clarissa, was born. Originally I was messaging all the families in need of childcare in my area, but before I knew it I was receiving messages from people noticing me on the website. I was babysitting at least four times a week during the summer, and I was able to keep sitting a few times a month during the school year.
During high school I was really able to expand my knowledge about childcare. All the electives I could take involved childcare including: child development, early childhood education, nutrition, and elementary education. Each class I learned something new about children. During my child development class I learned about the important stages of physical, cognitive, social development in children. When I was young I remember my mother and grandmother raising me. They instilled most of my beliefs and morals. They taught me to always be polite, understanding, and cautious. All mothers in the world want their children’s lives to better than their own. Hoping that they can reach their highest potential. Instilling their own beliefs and morals from what their parents taught them. Passing knowledge down from generation to generation is important. +Having read Betty Rollin’s “Motherhood: Who Needs It?” I disagree with her notion that motherhood is not instinctual. *She does not prove her point using female psychology, religion, and animal studies. Reading Betty Rollin’s “Motherhood: Who needs it?” makes me realize how much people differ in this world today.

Ross once said “The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.” As simple as this quip may sound, its complex implications are amplified through the life of every person born since the beginning of humanity. What attribute makes a mother such an extraordinary influence over her young? One such attribute is the ability to nurture. Beyond the normal challenges of cooking, cleaning, schooling, singing, feeding, and changing is the motivation by which such sacrifices are made possible. One cannot raise a child without mutual respect. Emotion and anxiety must drive her instincts. Her ability to foster is only heightened by minute personal imperfections and overwhelming responsibility that lead to a lack of confidence. Yet the prevailing characteristic that separates a ‘birth giver’ from a ‘mother’ is the unconditional, undying, and at times underestimated love for her child. To be a mother in the purest sense, she must embrace this notion of nurture.

Child care availability is an extremely important part of predicting student parent 's ability to complete school with a degree. If more colleges would provide child-care, then the low income parents would not have to work full time while attending college.
A substantial amount of research considers how children develop and form attachments from a few months old, as this period can have huge implications later in their life. As early childhood educators, we have many responsibilities to countless people and institutions. The most important responsibility that has been reinforced to me over the years is the responsibility for the well-being of children. Not simply the ones in my care, but all children everywhere. This can be accomplished in many ways such as advocacy. Organizations such as NAEYC, of which I am a member, engage in collective public policy advocacy which involves speaking out for and participating in activities that support and protect vulnerable populations such as children (Freeman, Decker & Decker, 2013). By volunteering at the Judy Center and after-school enrichment programs such as Bridges, I have had to opportunity and privilege to meet and collaborate with many wonderful social workers, advocates, and others who toil so diligently to improve the lives of children. “Helping young children become what they are capable of becoming is what the field of early childhood is all about,” (Colmer, Waniganayake, & Field, 2014, 103). In order to accomplish this, early childhood professionals need to continue to grow and develop as professionals. I have had the luck of being the oldest of my mothers’ seven children, and the pleasure of having three of my own, and one step-son. I’ve spent a lot of time changing diapers, wiping noses, and kissing ouchies. I’ve carried babies on my hip that I’ve seen off to kindergarten, helped dressed for the first school dance, attended their graduation, and even been there when they have had their first baby. I have spent a lot of time analyzing their behavior, moods, or lack thereof. I’ve concluded that there are 4 types of children, I have been blessed with one of each. The 4 different types are: The Superstar, The Kool Kat, The Lil’ Mama or Little Man (depending on the sex of the child), and The Rebel.
Currently, I work at the Foster Knox Day Care here at UCM. Being a Social Work major has enhanced my love of helping children. After taking Human Behavior, I can cue in what is going on in the developmental stage of the child life. Now I understand that a two-year may not say No to be defiant. Being able to interact with children has made me more aware that I want to work with children as a social worker.
Early in December, I concluded the first semester of the school year and was looking forward to the holiday break that lay ahead.
