What I Learned In Anatomy Class

As a child having a mother that is a Certified Medical Surgical Registered nurse, I grew up hearing her horror stories from hospital rooms. I vowed that as an adult I would never go into the medical profession. Besides, I found far more joy and excitement in musical theatre, and avoided my mother’s cancerous anecdotes like the plague. When I reached my junior year of high school, I had to face my fear and take the course Anatomy and Physiology. All I had for “prerequisites” were the brutal stories from previous survivors of the class and my mother's dreadful tales. Dragging my feet, I walked to my anatomy class, and as the bell rung for it to start, I knew it was too late. There was no escape. I cannot refrain from assisting the students taking this class in the upcoming years. To learn more about this topic, I discuss questions I have with my teacher and my peers. On multiple occasions I have submerged into discussions that involve comparing my knowledge of anatomy with students in other biology based classes. I also enjoy venturing to OMSI’s cadaver exhibit to advance my knowledge of the human body as a whole. Another resource I have at my fingertips, is the exceptional academic health care center, OHSU. Here, I was cured from appendicitis. That experience gave me a glimpse behind the scenes into the busy work happening within the hospital and sparked my curiosity to learn more. One more personal resource I use is my mother; she is the one who originally brought this influence into my life. With her I know I am in the hands of an experienced study partner. The anatomical and clinical schools, therefore, are those in which the young physician should be formed.” As a passionate student interested in an elevated medical education, I am excited to start my medical focused college journey.
