What would you do if everyday you knew anyday could be your moms last day? For Conor O’ Malley having to accept his own truth is one of the hardest things he has to deal with. He’s living in a world of denial. In a “monster calls” by Patrick Ness, the author uses symbols or objects to give a connotation or a greater deeper meaning to things. Some of the symbols given in the book I didn’t realize until the end of the book. One of the symbols given in a “monster calls” is the role the yew tree plays. The yew tree’s impersonation is he plays as a monster Conor isn’t afraid of. The monster represents Conor’s darkest and gloomiest side of him. The yew tree has the ability to heal and once Conor’s finds out about this ability he concludes that the yew tree will heal his mother but really the yew tree is trying to heal Conor. He makes him realize all the pain he’s been holding onto and teaches him acceptance and to be strong and let go. “Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that makes those lies necessary.” …show more content…

The monster always comes at an exact time which is 12:07. The monster ends up telling him three stories the fourth story Conor has to tell and it will be based on Conor’s truth. He normally comes during the night time but there was a time when he came during the daytime and his appearance led him to do bad things and putting a kid in the hospital. The night Conor is in the hospital with his mother last moments the time shown on the clock is 11:46. I can assume towards the very end of the book that the timing his mother would pass away is
