Education is not just about acquiring certificates and degrees, education is more on how an individual relates to life. When I think about an educated person, there are so many traits and characteristics that approach my mind. I reflect back when I was a lot younger and pondered upon the different circumstances as to when I encountered a person doing a certain thing, in a particular way, that made me feel that were well educated. There are factors that contribute to a person having the characteristics of an educated person or just having what is known as indoctrination, which tells people exactly what they want them to think and not allowing them to think critically. What I believe makes a well-educated person is for that person to show traits within their character that includes honesty, respect, courtesy, and the dedication to being a hard worker. When a person feels confident and that person is willing and able and not be afraid of expressing and creating their passions, that person is much more likely to explore out activities that will help in the process of developing all the talent …show more content…
Sabrina Stevens Shupe mentioned in the article, “What Does It Mean to Be Well-Educated”, and I quote “… I believe that education can and should be personally fulfilling, allowing us to appreciate life more by giving us the power to do things like read for pleasure, or compose music, or better understand the world around us” (Stevens, 2014, Web Publication). What Shupe mentioned about being able to have the opportunities to do anything, even if it is just a hobby, is affiliated as to what I said of what a well-rounded individual is. So not only is an educated person working, but he/she is also establishing the importance of carrying other interests into their daily lives, including hobbies that may allow for more of a social interaction with other people that have similar interests to build more social
Natural talent doesn’t lead the person to success, but it’s the combination of nurturing and favorable events that will make the him/her “successful”.
Rath states that “talent times investment equals strength (p. 20).” To me this is a very true statement. You might have the talent to do something but if you are not going to invest your time to better yourself then you will not be better yourself. This could also be said for having the drive to do something but without the talent in the task you cannot truly be the best at the task. The tool that helped us determine our strengths via the online assessment, tied into the previous quote by Rath. It asked you questions about both your talents, what you were good at, and it asked how you wo...
I find that education. Indeeds allows people to be involved and assess social and political issues. Many great civil right’s leader are prime examples of Sukma definition of being well educated. Martin Luther King Jr is a well loved leader and activist that display this quality with clarity. In the nineteen sixties, racism was alive and well in America, it was instilled in every sector of life.
He expresses his point by giving the time he has to be in at work. I agree with the author point as white collar jobs allow more flexibility. But there are some disadvantages as well. You can become less physically fit, work pressure increase and you are always in close proximity to everyone. I think the author has met his goal by directing the audience attention to the hours he awake for work. He was very direct in giving a great description of what his job consists of in the morning as well. He explained how the first thing he see is rows of machinery and how it has all been replaced by college. In closing, I agree with my claim that an education will give you a better quality of life. You can see from the key points that without an education you may be susceptible to factory jobs with harsh hours and intense
After analyzing Alfie Kohn’s article; “What Does It Mean to Be Well-Educated?” I found this article very interesting. Society has often labeled many as well-educated and uneducated. Who gives Society the right to define who we are? According to the Free Dictionary, it gives one meaning of well-educated as “Possessing an education having more than average knowledge.”2. How can we define being educated verses’ being well-educated? Kohn insists “The Point of Schooling: Rather than attempting to define what it means to be well-educated, should we instead be asking about the purposes of education?” 1. Must one be considered well-educated who obtain a degree or specializes in a certain field of interest, at a prestige institution of higher learning?
An intelligent man does not have to be equivalent to a respectable man. Those who are educated through academics at school are not given a foundation of good moral aspects. Martin Luther King Jr. said that this should be purpose of education and I fully agree. Education should purposefully be to build up an intelligent yet also logical and morally correct person.
To opinionate or to be opinionated as defined by Webster means to have an unduly adhering to one's own opinion or to preconceived notions. In “laymen’s terms“ basically it is to strongly stick to one’s own point of view. If education is so vast than how can someone be “well” at it? ~Kohn reveals that his wife who is a physician is hesitant at times reciting multiplication. This does not mean she is uneducated when indeed she may be responsible for saving someone’s life. Yet because she cannot teach a math class or write the President’s inauguration speech it portrays as if she is not “erudite” Contrarily speaking does the fact that she is a Physician depicts as her being smarter than someone who works performs “blue collar” work? Does some levels of education coexist with one’s occupation?
What is the standard of being well educated? Is it to fluently speak English? Or is it to engineer the newest product? Being well educated, is it to be well mannered? Perhaps, being well educated is to attend an esteemed Ivy League institute? Could a well-educated person not have attended a prestigious university? Is being well-educated transcultural? Further, is being well-educated absolute? Frankly, today’s definition of being well educated is not constant from culture-to-culture or person-to-person; that is, its definition is not absolute. Although the details of being well educated may differ from culture-to-culture and person-to-person, a consistent truth that tends to interlink with being well educated is having the knowledge to fulfill one’s dreams, regardless of particularly where one attains the knowledge.
Education is one of the most important aspects of life. Recently I read a story named “The Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, the great philosopher. The main point of the story is to reach a heightened sense of education, and then educate those in the dark. “... education is the craft concerned with doing this very thing, this turning around, and with how the soul can most easily and effectively be made to do it” (2016, p. 5). Nothing would ever be achieved without education; no progression would ever happen. My final item on my list is: hobbies. Having a hobby or activity that you regularly do is very important because it keeps you active. My favourite hobby is to go spearfishing. I go almost every day when I am on vacation in Puerto Rico. If it weren’t for my hobbies, I would most likely have no friends or not have any motivation to do anything else in

To approach this problem, we should, first and foremost, reiterate why people put such an emphasis on good education. Firstly, education improves people’s learning ability that makes them know more about the world. Most things taught in schools are the basic skills or means to further understanding of our society. Only be learning can humans have an opportunity to study more and know more about the society. Secondly, social experience tells us opportunities are often given to someone who has received good education. Employers tend to believe that people have higher education are more intelligent and that they can manage to do their job better and adapt to the working environment more quickly. That explains why educated people, more often than not, can land a very good job. Thirdly, educated people usually act more polite and civilized. People who understand the importance of learning know that they are good enough so they have patience and eagerness to learn from other people. And this is of great significance for a nation’s growth and prosperity. Last, with the development of today’s technology, education becomes even more valuable than ever before. The mentioned four points explains not only why education is important but also why more and more parents are sending their children to English speaking countries like the United States and the UK to study. Because the reality is that universities and colleges in these countries can provide better education, that is to say, better qualifications and more competitive edges for their children to land a dream job and achieve what they want for their life in the future. In this sense, the good intenti...
The only person who truly controls how educated I am, is me. My education feeds my intelligence, and since I want to be an intellectual, I want an exemplary education. In the end, no one can transfer knowledge from one brain to another, like a money transfer from account to account. It is something that I have to achieve with hard work and effort. Of course, I want someone to push me to learn and to grow, but I must decide for myself whether I want to succeed, or not. I know that I want to succeed and earn my education. I want to know everything there is to “know”. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use my knowledge to teach others, and give them the ability to spread knowledge throughout the world.
Obviously, it is important to give a truly meaning how to be consider as an educated person because the relationship of knowledge and the way of use these information are support each other. Knowledge can be gain from learning from different sources, and the proper handling these materials to benefit and enhance our lives as well our
If you look in the dictionary, you’ll find the definition of educated to be something close to this: having undergone education; characterized by or displaying qualities of culture and learning; based on some information or experience. But I haven’t found this to be particularly specific, or really helpful at all. As I’ve come to understand, being educated is transient, unless you learn to be, as a truly educated person is, a life-long learner. True education comes from yourself, from gaining an understanding of yourself, and from honing skills such as creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These skills are what make a truly educated person, because they can use and further these skills throughout any aspect of their lives.
With, knowledge acquired from school, anyone’s mind will expand, to hold in all that was learned from the years of teaching. While in school, one can obtain a great personality, by having the need for friendship with people who have a common interest. Thus, a personality is formed and impacted by relationships and events that occur during school. Being taught information for so long, people tend to become more enlightened to multiple subjects. Then knowing multiple subjects, such as but not limited to geography, sociology, psychology, engineering, accounting, and philosophy. Education provides all of this. they would have to be relentless to reach the level of a doctorate, which essentially means a specialist in a specific field. When it comes to being able to execute any task, growing into a productive member of society, and success in one’s life, education will always be no matter what be beneficial and important. It allows for business owners to improve their companies, and rocket scientists to build or design rockets for a paycheck. Therefore, everyone should agree that education is
