Costa Rica is a country located in Central America between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, with Nicaragua to the North and Panama to the South. The official name of the country is, the Republic of Costa Rica and its name literally translated means, “Rich Coast”. All of the features of Costa Rica’s pabellon nacional, or their flag that displays the country’s national shield, have rich meaning and symbolism. Each of the features of the pabellon nacional of Costa Rica were chosen for their historical and symbolic meanings. The base colors of the flag represent Costa Rican ideals and two of the main illustrations on the shield represent important geographical features of their country.
The base of the Costa Rican flag features five horizontal stripes, two are blue, two are white and center stripe is red. In 1848 the First Lady of Costa Rica chose the colors of the flag after being inspired by The French Revolution. The colors are also the same colors that are in the flag of France. Each of the colors in the flag were chosen to represent the ideals of the Costa Rican people. Blue stands for the sky, opportunities within reach and intellectual thinking. The white symbolizes peace, wisdom and happiness. Finally the color red, located in the center of the flag expresses the warmth of the Costa Rican people, their love of life and the blood they lost when they

fought for freedom. The Costa Rican National Shield features many meaningful illustrations that represent various characteristics of the country’s geography.
The most noticeable trait of the shield are the three volcanoes that are pictured in the center. The volcanoes represent the nation’s three main volcanic mountain ranges, Irzu, Poas and Arenal. The volcanoes in the shield are sitting on top of a green valley which represents the valley between the mountain ranges of Costa Rica. These geographical traits were displayed in the National Shield to represent some of the beautiful features of the
country. The third portion of the Costa Rican flag that is most dominant is also pictured in the National Shield. On either side of the volcanoes in the valley there are two oceans with Merchant Ships sailing across them. The two oceans are representative of the two oceans that border both coasts of Costa Rica. The eastern coast of Costa Rica is lined by the Caribbean Sea and the western coast by the Pacific Ocean. Historically these oceans were very important trade routes for importing and exporting goods to and from Costa Rica. Each of the symbolic features of the Costa Rican flag are important representations of the country and its people. Through the time honored ideals represented by the colors of the stripes to the rich landscape and diverse geography, the Costa Rican flag displays the strength and beauty of the land as well as its people. The relationship between the colors and the geographical features on the Costa Rican flag show that the fight for their country’s freedom from The Mexican Empire gave them great respect for the prosperous land that they acquired.
The United States of America and Costa Rica’s constitutions have several similarities and differences. The United States and Costa Rica have two of the most successful constitutional republics in the history of the world. They are alike in several ways, however, there are some major differences that allows them to thrive in their own environments. There are many components that describe the two countries: physical structure, traditions and how the constitutions were established, how the constitutions work, languages, military, religion, education, voting rights, presidential elections, and structure of the legislative branch, presidential terms, vice presidents, and Supreme Court justices.
Costa Rica is covered in huge jungles. Reminding me of the movie Tarzan, the jungles are full of monkeys, macaws, and many other curious creatures. Another interesting thing about Costa Rica was the beach. On the pacific side of the country, the sand is muddy and black. Even though the dark sand made the ocean look dirty, it made the white sea shells shine exceedingly bright. One of the scariest parts about Costa Rica was the reptiles. It seems that every river was full of enormous crocodiles. Although the lush, green jungle was a beautiful sight to see, Bonaire had even prettier views. Since it is located in the Caribbean, the island of Bonaire is surrounded by the most gorgeous turquoise water. The ocean was definitely the prettiest part of the island. The main terrain of Bonaire is desert. Unlike Costa Rica, there are hardly any trees. The island is covered in rocks and cactus. Because of the lack of vegetation, there were very few animals that thrive. For example, donkeys and finches were some of the only animals I saw on the island. Just like Costa Rica, Bonaire has a reptile problem. Thankfully, the reptiles in Bonaire were much nicer. Iguanas ruled the island. They were everywhere. After vacationing in Costa Rica and Bonaire, I realized that both have extraordinary
The colors red, white and blue did not have any real significance in America until their rights for freedom and territory were challenged. "The American flag played no significant role in American life until the Civil War, during the fight at Fort Sumter" (Goldstein 1). Then, to all northerners it became a symbol of pride and an object of "public adoration" (1). The flag was held in such high esteem that the Flag Protection Movement was created in 1890 so that there would be no commercialism of the object(2). The FPM felt as though politicians and merchants were "prostituting" the flag so, in 1900 they joined with the American Flag Association and made a set...
Another view of the American flag is the colors red, white, and blue. Some Americans see the color red as blood for all the blood shed on the battlegrounds. Another color white for victory or triumph in our great nation of America. Lastly, the color blue for the sadness or sorrow felt because of the lives lost in war.
The flag of the United States symbolizes our nation and more. The colors of the flag were not just chosen randomly, but with meanings behind it. The specific colors wanted to be able to symbolize our country with powerful words behind it. The separate colors must be able to unite everyone as one. The flag should represent the nation, so there should
First I would like to include some information about our american flag and how it came about. In the British colonies of North America before the Revolution, each of the 13 colonies had its flag. On Jan. 2, 1776, the first flag of the United States was raised at Cambridge, Mass., by George Washington. Known as the Grand Union flag, it consisted of 13 stripes, alternate red and white, with a blue canton bearing the crosses of St. George and St. Andrew. Congress, on June 14, 1777, enacted a resolution “that the Flag of the United States be 13 stripes alternate red and white, that the Union be 13 stars white in a blue field representing a new constellation.” On Jan. 13, 1794, Vermont and Kentucky having been admitted to the Union, Congress added a stripe and a star for each state. Congress in 1818 enacted that the 13 stripes, denoting the 13 original colonies, be restored and a star added to the blue canton for each state after its admission to the Union. All of the states and territories of the United States also have their own flags. Betsy Ross created the first flag. Betsy would often tell her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends of the fateful day when three members of a secret committee from the Continental Congress came to call upon her. Those representatives, George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross, asked her to sew the first flag. This meeting occurred in her home some time late in May 1776. George Washington was then the head of the Continen...
Every country has icons that specify objects that represent beliefs, values, or tradition that make that country unique. As the United States of America has many such as, Statue of Liberty and the American Flag. Yasmin Sabina Khan shows in her book "Enlightening the World: The Creation of the Statue of Liberty” why the Statue of Liberty was built, how each part of the statue describes everything and how it represents U.S today. In “Capture The Flag: The Stars And Stripes In American History”, Scot M Guenter talks about how the American flag is seen everywhere and how the flag has remained strong throughout many incidents. In the Barbara Kingsolver essay “And Our Flag Was Still There”, she writes about the meaning of the American flag and how it represents our country in different ways. And at last, Dave Barry shows us in his “Red, White and Beer”, the strong effects that patriotism can have on the sales and advertising of products. All of these icons
Guatemala is a beautiful land in Central America is bordering the Northern Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, and Belize. In this paper I will focus on Guatemala’s geography, anthropological history, cultural behavior, spiritual needs, and current evangelical activity. The primary objective of this paper is to identifiy the spiritual needs and how to pray for this nation and its peoples.
There is much controversy surrounding the idea of patriotism and the iconography of the American flag in today’s society. Some believe patriotism is simply the act of supporting the decisions of the leaders of the country. Others say, to be patriotic, people should be outspoken and voice their oppositions to what is going on in the government. Opinions also differ on the idea of what the American flag represents. One opinion of the flags representation is that the flag represents our history, and the formerly mentioned idea of patriotism. Others believe the flag also represents our history as a nation, but these beliefs focus much more heavily on the negative aspects of our history; such as slavery and other injustices carried out by our nation. These people often believe we should find a new iconography for our country’s ideas of patriotism. As Barbara Kingsolver states in “And Our Flag Was Still There,” “Patriotism seems to be falling to whoever claims it loudest, and we’re left struggling to find a definition in a clamor of reaction” (Pg. 1). Therefore, every American’s duty is to define patriotism amongst the clamor of reaction, recapture the American flag’s representation, and create a new icon for the flag.
The colors of the Flag may be thus explained: The red is for valor, zeal and fervency; the white for hope purity, cleanliness of life, and rectitude of conduct; the blue, the color of heaven, for reverence to God, loyalty, sincerity, justice and truth.
The colors used on our United States Flag are red, white, and blue. But the colors are a certain red, white, and blue. The colors are taken from the CAUS Standard Colored Reference of America, edition 10. The colors are specifically called White, Old Glory Red, and Old Glory Blue. For blue the coordinates would be L: 23.2, a: 13.1, and b: -26.4. If you were using the relative lab colors the coordinates for white would be L: 100.0, a: 0.0, and b: 0.0. On our American flag, the white signifies purity and innocence. The red color means hardiness and bravery. Blue expresses courage, vigilance (alertness), perseverance (never giving up), and justice.
Parque Nacional Mochima: is a national park that combines coastline and marine areas. Combining all the nature’s areas like the coast of the caribbeans, the great sand dunes of the central region, the densely rainforest from the amazon and a great view from the mazing tepuys and mountains
The white stands for the innocence, the red stands for the blood, and the blue stands for the vigilance. Each color should mean something to everyone deep inside of their heart, because we have people that are out on the battlefields risking their lives and time away from their families to make our lives much better, never knowing when their last breath or step may be. We should never think about doing anything that harsh to the flag ever. I think that people should be harshly punished when they do something like
Barbados’s flag was chosen with much meaning and significance. The flag represents freedom and the breakaway from a colonized past. The flag holds three equal bands, blue, gold, and blue respectively. The middle band being gold, holds a trident head, this head is what represents independence, freedom and past disconnection.
