A calling, in my own words is the sense and assurance that whatever I am doing is exactly what the Lord set out for me all along. Whether that is to move across the country and further his kingdom in places with poverty. Or if that means to stay in the town where I have grown up for 10 years, teaching second grade at my local church. In the midst of all the confusion and doubt, God knows exactly what he has in store for me. In scripture it says that God formed me in my mother's womb and he knows what my life is going to be like, even before I was even thought of. God has a calling for every single one of us. As christians, we have to be ready to listen. We have to not only wait in anticipation for what he has in store for us, but we have to know how to listen to him. Communication with the Lord is the only way to hear him tell us our calling. Having prayer and alone time with God helps us to rely on him and not trust solely on our own understanding. Once we have communication with God, we have to learn to be patient. In the book “Here I am” written by Schultze, he states that following Christ is an ongoing journey. In this case, knowing our purpose or calling may appear to us by the time that we are eighty years old. God has a calling for every single one of us, and as obedient servants we need to be in …show more content…
We must take our identity in the Lord seriously, so that then and only then we can truly answer his call, no matter how ridiculous or impossible that it may seem. People are always questioning where their identity should be found. The Lord is clearly and boldly stating that our identity can only be found through him. When we feel empty God fills us up with the assurance that he needs us and that he has a calling that can change our lives and direct us in the right
We each receive our own divine call from God. Sometimes this call alines with our own aspirations and goals, and other times it doesn’t. After the reading Gary Selby’s paper on Vocation I was left uncertain if my career goals and works were the same as God’s vocation for me. I have chosen to major in Sports Administration to pursue a career in the Lakers’ front office. This might also be God’s calling for me but, I’m at an uncertain moment in my life to know for certain if this is my ultimate calling.
Recognizing God is a part of our vocation within community can be confusing for us, how can we serve God in the different venues of our life when the world teaches such differing views? We are encouraged to share our witness, testimony, and service within our families, workplace, and our social settings. Family includes the household within our life touching upon each role parent, child, and spouse. It becomes acceptable to compartmentalize the areas of our life and serve in comfortable areas. Consumerism and societal pressures challenge us to withdraw from the Spirit when we feel intimidated, out of place, or even unworthy of God’s involvement in our life. We are called to be “the salt of the earth”, accepting the challenge to unite God’s calling upon our whole-life. According to Migliore, “United in Christ by the power of the Spirit we are one community; we are members of one body and mutually dependent on one another. Recognizing God works with all areas of community unites families, workplace, and social settings together.
The biblical worldview influences me with deciding on what career would be best for me and how I should do it. Decision making is sometimes difficult for some people, unless they feel God has given them a “calling” in a certain career
“The call is something that is an indescribable joy and an indefinable burden at the same time.” (Bryant and Brunson 2007, 32). There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a congregation of the redeemed moving forward in their faith. However exciting this may be, it is usually not the thrill that propels the pastor in his service. It is the burden placed on the pastor by God that compels him in his work. The pastor understands that he is largely responsible for the work of God being accomplished by his faithfulness to his calling. “All through the Word of God and down through the annals of history, when God has moved it has almost always been attended by the preaching of the Word.” (Bryant and Brunson 2007, 31)
A calling is something that is meant specifically for an individual and is directly related to the purpose of their life. Someone whose purpose in life is to help people in need might be called to enter the field of medicine. Ray was called to build the baseball field because his purpose in life is to reconcile with his father and change the lives of his family and friends for the better. Moses was called to build the ark because his purpose in life was to reestablish humanity after the great flood.
We have been counseled heretofore by prophets of old, "to seek learning, even by study, and by faith". We have an obligation to search the scriptures and to learn what the Lord is teaching us and warning us of. We must go forward with faith, and not backward. We must come unto the Lord, and not expect the Lord to come unto us.
...hat share my faith and together worship Jesus. I believe that by being in fellowship with other believers I will have a strong opportunity to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose in my life, whether it is a daily or lifetime calling.
“First, there is the call to be a Christian. Second, for each individual there is a specific call—a defining purpose or mission, a reason for being. Every individual is called of God to respond through service in the world. Third, there is the call that we face each day in response to the multiple demands on our lives—our immediate duties and responsibilities” (Smith, ...
When it comes to the way you treat and speak to others on a daily basis I think it comes down to being mindful and caring. God was a leader and expects us to be a leader and help those around us. I feel as Christians it is important for us to feel comfortable enough to speak the word of God to others to form conversation and friendships. I feel like a biblical worldview could influence the way you decide on a future career. With God expecting us to act as servants and help others I feel like it would only be right in choosing a job geared to helping others and spreading the word. For myself, I know I have always wanted to become a teacher and influencing children and helping them create their own personal worldview. I look forward to teaching young children the word of God in their younger
As we search the word of God with passion and earnestly, the Holy Spirit will illuminate us, so we can grasp his will in our life “until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.” (Eph. 4:13).
The biggest thing that I’ve been dealing with and at this time still struggle with is in finding my self-worth. Some may also call it self-confidence. I feel that I have tended to confuse God’s love for me as primarily traveling through vessels, i.e. other people in the body of Christ. I all too often can look back on my past and see the points where I felt the most apart from God and tie them in with instances where I had torn relationships with past friends in the church. Throughout this struggle though, I have continued to feel the presence of God, through the Holy Spirit, comforting me and guiding me on this spi...
For any Christian, one of the most important questions a person can ever answer is, “How does a Believer know that they are for sure a Christian?” All Believers needs to have the assurance of their salvation. Finding the answer to this question brings confidence and contentment to the Believer’s life. Sadly, many people live their lives never really having an answer to this question. However, the Word of God is the starting point to find this assurance.
calling from God, and if we stay faithful, God will lead us to that calling. Everybody
Looking into my own life, I remember times where I just asked God to do something for me because I couldn’t do it. In reality, God used that situation so that I would rely on him and gain a partnership with Him. My second favorite lecture took place on the fifth of October when the focus of the class was centered on our preferred image. Someone’s preferred image is how they choose to see themselves as opposed to how others see them. I enjoyed this discussion, because I find that I do things to try to make a unique identity for myself. I am victim to letting my community define my identity too much. As an identical twin, I am often being compared to her; therefore, I often see myself based on other people’s remarks. I need to realize, however, that my identity is formed by my community along with my family, God, and myself. Therefore, these lectures have widely influenced my identity with Christ and my calling or vocation to partner with God with my
