What do sustainable cities look like?
A sustainable city looks like a place with happy people enjoying the facilities that surround their local suburb. There are many resources and facilities in and around the city of Brisbane. One of them is Brisbane’s train line which travels to many busy suburbs, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine coast and even to Cairns. Every day people travel on trains for work, school and leisure. There are also bus terminals transporting people for the same purpose.
Suburbs around Brisbane are filled with popular open space playgrounds for children to run and explore, off leash dog parks, barbeque facilities and public toilets. Brisbane has bakeries, cafes, supermarkets and weekend markets. Other resources include retirement villages, bowling clubs, libraries and fantastic hospitals. A sustainable city looks after the environment and has better air quality and land for people to live. With this environmental difference in mind a sustainable city should meet the needs of the society without changing the amazing surroundings for the future generations, instead preserve what it already has.

The following case study critiques Upton’s vision to establish a sustainable community through implementing comprehensive sustainable strategy. The urban periphery development is thought to demonstrate superior execution of sustainable principles in development (Jackson 2007). As a parallel, the report focuses on the development of Upton’s design code and demonstrates how large -scale mix-use developments can incorporate sustainable practice and principles of urban growth.
If housing is not affordable, like in Vancouver, many people are forced to live far away from where they work just so they can have a home. In this way, the further you have to go for the necessary goods, such as food, supplies, or even go to work, the more stressful life is. Why? It is because many of the very basic and needed services are not available nearby, such as hospitals and various other medical services, this forces people from remote locations to travel long distance to have some of their basic needs met. Affordability has many linkages which is what makes it an essential part of planning and supporting a sustainable community. If the community cannot provide a sustainable living environment to those people living in there, how can the community be

Café Culture are the buzz words used to describe the inner west suburb of Concord West in Sydney. Concord West is brimming with cafes and eateries that get great reviews from the locals and visitors across the Internet. The biggest commercial sector of Concord West is located near the railway station, but there are also a few scattered businesses within the community near the Concord Hospital. Another attractive trait of Concord West is Rhodes Park, which is on the water and where the locals enjoy outdoor time.
* Urban Professional^s recognition of the increased variability, robustness, and interest in both the urban area and their work. * Conservation Activist^s commendation of the lower consumption of resources, and reduced pressure on sensitive environment areas, suggestive of a reduction in urban sprawl. * The Development Industry^s equations of profit established through better and higher levels of land use. Essentially urban consolidation proposes an increase of either population or dwellings in an existing defined urban area (Roseth,1991). Furthermore, the suburban village seeks to establish this intensification within a more specific agenda, in which community is to be centred by public transport nodes, and housing choice is to be widened with increased diversity of housing type (Jackson,1998).

You can enjoy a walk along the reserve's track that will lead to your The Deckhouse cafe or the Woolwich Pier Hotel. Shopping & Dining It’s important to the residents and the council that governs Woolwich to keep this suburb the peaceful and natural community to which they have become accustomed. Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objects of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimal waste, and create healthy, productive environments (“Sustainable Design”). Focusing primarily on the sustainable design principles, there are five, including: low-impact materials, energy efficiency, quality and durability, design for reuse and recycling, and renewability. As sustainability appears to become the necessary trend in architecture, the question concerning the cost versus outcome of “going green” really an investment or a waste of time and money comes to mind. With our research provided below, we believe the expenses may truly be with the investment in the end.
Well-recognized cities worldwide have built over the years great buildings with a variety of designs and concepts however consequently too much building has been making grievous decrease on energy efficiency. Now, “Green Architecture” has been popularized and as a result a modicum of energy efficiency has increased and also it has substantiated a new perspective, a new versatile way on architecture.
As previously implied, cities are currently the antithesis of even the barest sense of sustainability. To succinctly define the term “sustainability” would be to say that it represents living within one’s needs. When it comes to the city, with almost zero local sources of food or goods, one’s means is pushed and twisted to include resources originating far beyond the boundaries of the urban landscape. Those within cities paradoxically have both minimal and vast options when it comes to continuing their existence, yet this blurred reality is entirely reliant on the resources that a city can pull in with its constantly active economy.
The city I propose as a perfect city, would be as close to an ecocity as possible, although have some differences. For example, for electrical needs, I would suggest the city have a solar power plant, but on those desperate times, energy would be bought from other electrical plants from nearby towns or states.
Global cities are cities with substantial economic power, controlling the concentration and accumulation of capital and global investments. Despite this, global cities are the sites of increasing disparities in occupation and income. This is as a result of large in-migration and growing income inequality together with capacity and resource constraints, and inadequate Government policies.
The notion of sustainable city has mounted a paramount place in the contemporary urban planning. In the world Conservation strategies in1980, the concept of sustainable development was firstly introduced.
