What do you think Jack from The Lord of The Flies and General Zaroff from “The Most Dangerous Games” both symbolize? They are both from completely different situations, Jack was in a plane crash and is now stranded on an island with a bunch of other kids and General Zaroff lives on Ship-Trap island where he fulfills his passion of hunting. Even though they are in completely different situations they both symbolize the same thing. Jack and General Zaroff both symbolize violence in The Lord of The Flies and “The Most Dangerous” Games because General Zaroff has a desire to hunt living creatures,Jack is doing mindless things to get what he wants, and General Zaroff’s hobby was very violent.

In “The Most Dangerous Game”, General Zaroff has a desire to hunt living creatures. “You see, I read all books on hunting published in English, French, and Russian.” “I have but one passion in my life, Mr.Rainsford, and it is the hunt.” (pg.28) This shows how much General Zaroff has a desire to hunt. Jack continues to hint that the beast exists when he knows that it probably does not. A manipulation that leaves the rest of the group fearful and more willing to cede power to Jake and his hunters, more willing to look barbarism on Jacks part for the sake of maintaining the safety of the group.(chapter 5) This can tell the reader that Jack is doing mindless and also violent things they get what he wants, and what Jake wants is to be the leader. At first Jack was not a violent person at all, in fact, Jack couldn’t even kill a pig at the beginning the story.
