A wellness activity I got involved in was a fitness and health group for young ladies called Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run is a fitness program that motivates you mentally and physically. My experience with Girls on the Run was phenomenal. I learned how to proportion my meals for my own likings and health. I prepared three times a week for a 5k run. Also meeting amazing young ladies who encouraged each other and established bonds of sisterhood to promote healthy eating and healthy relationships. Getting into the wellness activity of Girls on the Run made me feel very valuable. My journey of healthy living was being reached at its maximum potential, that was big for me. The feeling of being valuable to yourself is a very motivating feeling. This feeling of motivation and value is what made me go those three days a week. Despite the pain I would suffer from my feet or the soreness of my muscles those two feelings kept me motivated. …show more content…
I told my mother for many days even hours before going to the first day of the program “mom I know this is good for me but I want to do it alone”. Me not knowing what was in stored for me I followed directions water bottle in my hand red and blue checkered shorts on a 5’7 9 year old get’s out of the car and goes in the school / recreational building wondering where to go and how long until I can get back into the car and go get ice
The most meaningful and challenging experiences in my life have been through sports and the 4-H club. They have instilled the values of perseverance, confidence, and teamwork within me. I feel that my peers and others could learn valuable life lessons through participating in these organizations. They are not just clubs, but a guiding light for life. For example in sports I have had the opportunity to play on both losing and winning teams. This has given me a different perspective of looking at things. I now realize that even if you fail or lose that is no reason to give up, you still have to get right back up. Just realize your mistakes and errors. Then come back the next time, mentally and physically, ready to meet the challenge. To often in life youth and adults alike fail at something and automatically think that they cannot do it, and give up. Instead of just pushing themselves to run another lap, lift another set, study for another hour, or learn another theorem. Imagine a world if the early American settlers had given in to the British, if the North had given in to the South after the first loss of the civil war, or if Michael Jordan had given up after being cut from the team in high school. People just need to learn to have perseverance and believe in themselves. 4-H has been a series of stepping-stones for me. When I first started out at age four I was shy and afraid to do things that I had not done before, but now I have blossomed into a confident and outgoing young man. I no longer fear getting up in front of large groups and speaking because of the experiences I've had in public speaking events. In addition, 4-H has given me the chance to develop myself as a leader. Over the years I have held various leadership positions on the club, county, and district levels. Also, 4-H has given me the chance to go into the community and help people by leading youth in workshops, assisting the handicap and elderly, and also learn from what others have to teach. In both of these organizations I learned the need for teamwork. For example last year my football team went 0-11 and the main reason because of that was we were not a team.
This sparked my interest in service. I took initiative to not only become a member of the American Teen Cancer Society, but assume a leadership position. My active participation in cancer research fundraising within my school, and during Relay
The perceived freedom in this activity was that participants could choose what want to do during the race to run, walk, listen to the music or enjoy the fall season views. The intrinsic motivation of this event was to help those who are in need and experience the 5k run with my friends. Moreover, I feel that this experience benefited me physically, mentally and socially. The 5K run is a good exercise which could help me lose some weights and build muscles and strength on my legs. Participating in this event, I feel happy because I can help people and can interact with friends and the local community. I felt happy and relax even though it took me 43 minutes to finish because this was the first year and my purpose was just enjoy and experience the event but I will definitely come back next year with some pre-training and compete myself with an improved and faster running
As a large sedentary community, the Mid Atlantic Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (MACPAC) has a great need to promote exercise and healthy eating habits in the workplace. Currently more than one-third of the country suffers from obesity. It is my hope that with the help of the Wellness Committee we can continue to improve healthy lifestyle changes, and curb the epidemic of obesity that our country has. I am currently finishing my Masters in Public Health, and need to do a service project for the community. It is my hope that the MACPAC will be a place where we can start this change from sedentary lifestyles, to a more healthy and active
Describe the program and the strategies they use to improve physical fitness/health within the community.
I was so excited to start my new journey in school. I knew that being involved in a sport was going to help me become more confident. Running has taught me how to achieve my goals, be tough; both physically and mentally, and appreciate life. The first week of cross country was difficult.
My first week of school, everyone encouraged me to join a club or a team. Of course I did not want to, until I heard we had a track team, and even then I did not know if I wanted to pursue it. In my mind, debating if I should dedicate myself to track was a hard decision. I was about to not only give this sport my time but also nothing but
It has brought me in contact with people that I otherwise would have never spoken to. Additionally, no value can be placed on the countless lessons it has taught me. Olympic marathon runner Meb Keflezighi states, “Like the marathon, life can sometimes be difficult, challenging, and present obstacles; however, if you believe in your dreams and never ever give up, things will turn out for the best.” To sum things up, running has taught me many lessons, and it is one of the main reasons I am the person that I am
Therefore, individual motivation is main motivators to engagement (Tulloch et al, 2013; Lascar et al, 2014). Korkiakangas et al (2009) claim internal motivation is more beneficial in ensuring compliance to health interventions in comparison to external motivation. A well- motivated learning experience may alter individual lifestyle and behaviour; however, Casey et al (2010) emphasised that the importance of motivation in exercise intervention requires will-power. Furthermore, the motives for physical activity include social and psychological motives. Social motives include a convivial atmosphere such as respect and support from others while psychological motives include positive body image, promotion of health benefits and improved sense of well-being (Korkiakangas et al, 2010). However, Korkiakangas et al (2009) systematic review highlighted that regular counselling is essential in order to promote physical activity among diabetes
Exercise adherence is complex and difficult, yet something movement professionals are dedicated to helping others achieve. Experts disagree on how to increase exercise participation and adherence among the population. “In your opinion, how do we increase exercise participation and adherence among the population?”
I began my cultural excursion on March 23rd, 2016 as hospital volunteer at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Going after the idea of living outside of my normal lifestyle was scary, yet exciting and I truly learned more about myself and the healthcare world. My dominant culture revolves around working out five days a week, consuming healthy meals and living an active lifestyle. I am constantly trying to find ways to keep my mind, body and spirit healthy, all the while maintaining a positive mentality. Although, sometimes it is not easy, I am truly invested in my fitness level and my dedication towards my culture. The cardio, low-fat drinks and water detoxes are all worthwhile to me, because they provide me with an indescribable feeling.
When I started studying health and nutrition in September 2014, my goals were, to find out the proper foods that a person should consume to lose weight and to find out what type of workouts burn the most fat. In October, 2014, I volunteered to become a fitness instructor at a Herbalife fit camp, where I helped lead out workouts for my local community. My objective was to help out the personal trainers that ran the camp wherever they needed the help at and to learn more about the proper nutrition choices that they offered to the community.
Over the four years that I have spent at Good Counsel, I became part of many activities. Each helping me evolve as a person and become stronger yet. Simple lists could be made of every activity that I have ever been involved in but it could never express to a person what I have learned and how it helped me to grow. Every environmental club, science club, political science club, service work, and S.A.D.D. club I was part of had a very special message to deliver to me. Whether the message was one of responsibility, or a life lesson, I grew from it. The Political Science club opened me to many new experiences. It allowed me the chance to attend the Model U.N., where I was asked to address today's top world issues. This club was very beneficial to me because I was exposed to topics and ideas that I had not previously been able to discuss or learn about in a classroom situation. The science club allowed for me to experience extra educational situations as well. I took part in a hovercraft competition, which was very educational while also allowing me the chance to work with others for a common goal.
In “On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion,” Warren argues that abortion is permissible because fetuses are not human beings therefore; they have no right to life. One of the strongest arguments that Warren gives for this claim is that a fetus is not a person and all and only persons have full moral rights therefore; a fetus has no right to life. In this paper, I will argue that even though fetuses are not yet developed human beings, they still have the right to life. In the article, Warren argues that fetuses are not human beings therefore; they have no right to life.
In my junior year of high school i did a scholarship program called Jr. miss where we practiced for about five months. We did fashion shows to raise money. We competed in events such as:talent, poise, fitness, and academics. This allowed me to explore myself and make new friends, it also helped build my self-esteem.
