I chose “Feed the Hungry 5K Run” for Leisure Personal #2 assignment on Thanksgiving at California State University, Sacramento. At first, my friend and I wanted to do “individuals” because it was cheaper than a team registration and we don’t have enough four members to form a team. Later, there was more friends to join in and we decided to form a team and came up with the team name “Hungry Runners” which fits the event purpose. After we registered and each member paid 55 dollars which would benefit families in need in Sacramento County, we could get a bid which would time our race and a shirt with our team name “Hungry Runners” on right sleeve. This was the first time that I have ever engaged in this type of activity and the goals were to donate and experience the event atmosphere.

would start at 9:00 am on J Street and run around the campus. On that day, I woke up at 7:45 a.m. and left my house around 8:00 a.m. since my house was closed to the campus and my other friends got there by 8:20 a.m. However, when I got close to the campus, it started to get traffic because many other participants were trying to get into the parking lot and I took me half an hour to get to there. By the time I got to the starting point, many participants stood by and got ready for the race but some were still standing around, talking and taking pictures. The weather was cold around 37 degrees which seemed to make the race more difficult. Because of that, many runners wore jackets and multilayer clothes but some of them wore turkey costumes to the race to celebrate the Thanksgiving. Since my friends came earlier than me, they had already stood by in front by the time I got there and I stood all the way back of the crowd. Before the race started, everybody laughed and seemed really happy and excited about this race. When the race began, the participants in the front ran but the runners on the back and I only walked slowly and waited for the front people moving. At first, I jogged and couldn’t run fast because there were so many people. After one mile, I felt hot and started to slow down and walk. During the run, I felt really relaxing and enjoyable because I wanted to take a look what the 5 K run was about. Some people came here for having fun and celebrating Thanksgiving with their family while other participants competed. There are different groups of people who participated in this run that it was not only adults but I also saw couple families went with their spouses, children and elder parents. Some of children still sat on strollers and pushed by their parents while some elders walked with their walking poles. Also, I found it was interesting that some of them was bringing their pets with them. Along the running trail, musical brands were playing music which made motivation for runner and the event more exciting and some neighborhoods also came out their houses and enjoyed the event atmosphere. Moreover, there were volunteers provides juice and water for participants and also restrooms for those who felt uncomfortable during the run. It took me forty-one minutes to reach the finish line for 5k run while my friends took only 35 minutes. However, it didn’t matter to me because the purpose of it was to enjoy the run with other people. After the race, many people stayed for a post-race party which provides drink, foods and music for participants to hang out. My friends and I didn’t stay but we headed to Cal Expo for Hmong New Year Festival to enjoy Hmong foods and traditional culture event. The next day, I felt relaxing even though I was tired and my legs pained because I didn’t do much exercise for the 5k run. In this event, the optimal arousal was that I found the race was interesting because I thought most participant were youths and adults but I didn’t expect that many different groups of people would participate as family groups, children, elders and even those who were in wheelchair and walking issues.
The perceived freedom in this activity was that participants could choose what want to do during the race to run, walk, listen to the music or enjoy the fall season views. The intrinsic motivation of this event was to help those who are in need and experience the 5k run with my friends. Moreover, I feel that this experience benefited me physically, mentally and socially. The 5K run is a good exercise which could help me lose some weights and build muscles and strength on my legs. Participating in this event, I feel happy because I can help people and can interact with friends and the local community. I felt happy and relax even though it took me 43 minutes to finish because this was the first year and my purpose was just enjoy and experience the event but I will definitely come back next year with some pre-training and compete myself with an improved and faster running
time.
Mac and Dennis are driving home. As they are driving they hear the radio from the car that a disease was spreading the city. And immediately had to get a flu shot they were so worried they had to park their car to call their parents, if they were okay. As soon, as they both call they have been reached to voice mail. They called one more time and Mac’s parent were vomiting. Dennie’s parents had really bad headaches.
Hypothesis: Even though the 1.5 mile run test will not produce the highest average VO2 max, the results of the 1.5 mile run will produce the most accurate VO2 max results as the test puts the most physiological demand on the body compared to the Queens College/McArdle Step Test and the Rockport One Mile Walk Test.
...the marathon, form a sense of unity and bond over love for the same cause. It is important for any athlete or coach working with a team to know how to work as one unit to achieve a common goal, rather than trying to pull all the weight alone. Raising over $176,000 for UNI Dance Marathon 2014 would have been impossible for one person to achieve!
While only a small percentage of the entire workforce was able to participate in the event, its intention was to provide employees with something to strive toward. It was also rejuvenating for those given the opportunity to attend. The event was inspiring and left you with the feeling that you work for a great company and they do care about you; so much so that they are willing to spend a lot of money and provide you with a wonderful experience . The event also focused heavily on the driving force of the company: the students and helping them to improve and change their lives. Employees returned to work feeling inspired and ready to do just that. The event provided the company with an opportunity to invest in their employees, reward them, and make them feel
It was late October, as we were adjusting to our new roles; we were given a compelling project called Kids against Hunger. This project required a vast amount of preparation and organization. I began by researching more on the project and learn more information before presenting this project to my officers. Kids Against Hunger provides meal for kids around the world with malnutrition and that are starving. Our goal was to package one quarter of million meals in two days. With my officers, we divide the two days and focus transportation to the fa...
In order to have an effective evaluation, we needed to set goals. When we began the project , our goals were to feed at least 100 people, as a chapter record over 100 hours volunteering at the Wesley Chapel Mission Center (WCMC), collect 150 coats, and raise $1000. Yet, with hard work, and hours of preparation, we surpassed those goals. We fed over 180 people, volunteered over 210 hours and collected over 350 coats as well as many pairs of gloves and other winter accessories. On top of that, we also beat our goal of raising $1000 by raising an amazing $3,096.29.
We started with a simple fundraiser, a pancake breakfast, at the local Highway 55 restaurant. For
What is Biomechanics? It is the study of forces and their effects on the living system (McGinnis, 2013). In this essay, I will be looking at the biomechanics of running. Running, as well as any other sport requires skills for which advancement is due to consistent deliberate practice and effective development. However, runners should establish a training system that actively builds their original running pattern instead of basing it on what works well for others. Understanding the biomechanics of running gives a better knowledge of their running techniques and points out areas of concerns that require improvement. Despite the fact that running is dependent on the interaction of the whole body, breaking down the running pace into single components allows us to further understand how minor changes can increase improve performance and decrease injury risk.
I decided to participate in the challenge because I know two friends of the family suffering from ALS. After I did the challenge, I felt really fulfilled and happy that I was doing something good. I'm glad that I could take part in something that will help the world. Before, I talked about how we are supposed to elevate our actions onto the spiritual level. Even though it was just simple bucket of ice being dropped on my head, it felt like more than that.
Of the more than twenty million Americans who are running today, most who start do so for the wrong reasons, with the wrong attitude, and tend to lose interest after a few weeks or months. Many quit. This is usually because they become concerned with superficial goals such as time and distance and never discover the more profound mental benefits that running offers. (Lilliefors 15)
The Battle of Marathon was a very important battle that was fought in the first Greco-Persian war. It was fought in either August or September of the year 492 B.C.E. The battle was between the Persians and a few city-states from Greece. The Persians were attacking the Greeks because during the expansion of the Persian Empire, under the leadership of King Darius I, the people of Ionia had rebelled against Persia. Then the people of Athens offered assistance to the Ionian people, but the Persians soon put the rebellion to an end. After the Persians had ended the rebellion they were very angry that the Athenians had given assistance to the rebels so they decided that they would attack Athens.
When I read this assignment, my first thought was choosing walking as my exercise. Why? Because my sister has been running for a few years and as convinced me that I could walk at a 5K race. So I have been walking since the beginning of the summer and my first race is in a month. This is also a chance for me to find ways that I could incorporate nutrition into my diet without my immediate family rioting. The benefits of walking will actually help me greatly because my family seems to have a history of everything. All four of my grandparents died with cancer. My mom is a cancer survivor. Most of her siblings have died of some form of cancer. Mom also has had a stroke. My dad, his dad, and distant cousins on that side of the family have had heart attacks. Both my parents have diabetes and high blood pressure. And my mom is obese. I am overweight myself and have been since I had my oldest son in 1997 then 18 months later had twins boys. I have lost 20 pounds since then but slowly because of my lack of motivation to exercise. But now I have a reason to get up and exercise; a 5K race. And my sister to support me and push me to do it.
This campaign helped improve my project management skills as I always had many moving parts that I had to organize and keep track of. Additionally, much of the work to achieve my goal was done by others that I led. I had actors for a video, a marketing consultant, a librarian, a health educator and many others working on my "team". Managing volunteers is never easy
We, Aimee Johnson and Jessie Virnig, along with Amy Wilson and Shawn Klimek, decided to try to give the homeless a little hope. The week before Christmas we went door to door and collected food for the local homeless shelter. We decided to focus on collecting food because around the Christmas season, a lot of emphasis is put on toy drives and people sometimes overlook the fact that the homeless still need to eat. In order to broaden our research, we decided to collect food from more than one group of people. We went to an average middle class neighborhood and to a college dormitory. Before we went out into the neighborhood and dorms, we prepared a thank you letter to give to everyone explaining to them who we were, to tell them that we were collecting food for the homeles...
Whether it be running down that path to finish the race or through the woods or even chasing down the prey, running is a simple activity which influences many aspects of society today. Some people ran for their survival but nowadays people run for more recreational purposes. For example, in the culture aspect, people for generations passed down stories of the evolution of humans to do with running and research of how that came to be. Also in the area of fitness, running shows a positive correlation to health. Finally in the media, running served as a great influence for two people. Running positively influences society in three major areas such as lifestyle, fitness, and media.
