The past three decades dozens of religious aspirations took place. A weird event in the 1970s where a 1700 year old relic was oozing blood at St.Adrians Church (Taylor 68). Since the beginning of January the statues began to weep and for the next 7 months oil spewed out from its fingers. It then stopped then started again and the 2nd time the oil it spewed out was used to anoint 14 icons ( Taylor 68) At the St. Nicholas Orthodox the statues weeped and kept weeping for 7 months (Taylor 68). In Hanover park on July 1997 on 2420 Glendale Terrace an image of the Virgin Mary appeared from security lights (Taylor 68). Also in the St.George Orthodox the statues were weeping oil during holy week (Taylor 68).

Considering its age of over eight hundred years old, the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists remains in remarkable condition. However, pieces of the original apse, which originated in the Catalan chapel in Spain, have faded. Portions, especially along the bottom, have disappeared over time. Even though it was moved to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, it has not been fully restored. The artist identified each of the apostles in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists, but the writing has grown fainter and this creates difficulty for art historians.

The book, What’s So Super About the Supernatural tells of well known stories about poltergeists. A poltergeist is a noisy or high energy ghost who might perform violent activity. A young girl by the name of Tina Resch lived in Ohio and is known to be a poltergeist. “No ghost was ever seen or heard on camera; however when the camera was inadvertently left running, the tape showed Tina surreptitiously pulling over a lamp” (Gardner). The evidence was found after people were reporting the activity. Newspaper reporters went to the scene to check out the action only to find evidence of Tina throwing objects violently around the house. Another example of proof that ghosts exist goes back to a case involving a poltergeist in England. An eleven-year-old boy by the name of Matthew Manning performed several violent actions that his dad had noticed and reported. Gardner writes, “ On one occasion, Matthew’s bed was thrown about and left leaning at an angle against the wall” (Gardner). These examples are not the only reported cases regarding ghosts and paranormal activity. Many stories about the supernatural have been told and passed down for several generations. Spirits are even mentioned in well known religious books that have been passed down for hundreds of

The Chicago Cubs are an interesting part of Illinois history, even if they are not always successful. The history of Wrigley Field, the famous players, and the stories behind every game are why Chicago loves the Cubs. It is the atmosphere of the friendly confines when you walk in through those gates. It is jumping out of your seat when the ball is being hit out of the park. It is things as little as singing the 7th inning stretch with all the other Cub fans around you. Rooting for the underdog is special, and that is why Cub fans are so loyal. The history, players, and stories of Chicago Cubs Baseball are the reasons why it is an important part of Illinois history.
Growing up on the south side of Chicago in the roughest neighborhood in the city I learned a lot from others and just observing my surroundings. At times, I would always think to myself my situation could always be worse than it was, and that there is always someone who is doing worst off than me. But my situation turned from being in a bad position to being in a position where my mother would come to lose her mother and our home that we had been living in, all in the same year. After losing her mother and bother my mom lost herself in her emotions and shut down on everyone and with that came the loss of a home for me and my siblings and her job. Shortly after my mom began to go back to church and so did we. It was the first time in a log time that we had attended church and it played a big part in a learning experience for me and my siblings. Through the days that came to pass going to church sparked a desire of wanting to help others who had or are struggling to get by. My mentor, Pastor, and teacher deserves appreciation for helping my mother through a hard time and keeping me and my siblings active in a positive manor.
In 1241, King Louis IX was 27 years old, when he decided to build the Sainte Chapelle to house his great treasures – the relics of Christ. In the thirteenth century, the kingdom of France was a prosperous nation in wealth and power. The popular and well-known university, Notre dame was located in Paris that occupied over 200,000 students from many different cultures. “In 1237, the new Franc Emperor of the East, Baudoin II de Dourtenay, was faced by heavy expenses of a mainly military nature; he tried to meet these by selling the Relics of the Passion that were preserved in Byzantium and which he had already partly pledged to the Venetians” (Finance 4). In 1239, Louis bought from him the Holy Crown of Thorns, and two years later bought from him fragments of the True Cross and other relics connected to Christ. King Louis IX was a model for all Christian kings, and this reaffirmed his devotion to Christ, made his kingdom shine in western Christianity, and supported the empire of France. “It is probable that from this date onwards the king thought of building a monumental reliquary to house the precious relics in a dignified manner within the palace precincts, in a similar fashion of the Christian Emperors of the East” (Finance 5). The Sainte Chapelle sparkles like a rare jewel that has magnificent architecture and decoration; the stain glass windows seem to be inside of a jewel case. The many jewels seem to change color every hour with the sunlight rays bouncing back and forth. “The founder, King Louis IX, the future St. Louis, who had it built to house the Holy Relics of the Passion, today dispersed” (Finance 1). The spire has statues of Christ’s apostles at the base of the spire and has angles decorated above the apostles. The ...

Even if Illinois is a tragic place to live its few qualities that make it a livable place to live and a history that is slightly particular that should be voiced. Illinois itself was settled by the French explorers in sixteen seventy three (Wikipedia, Illinois). Illinois stayed a French territory until is conquered by the British people at the end of the seven years’ war (Wikipedia, Illinois). The Illinois area was explored at around the date of nineteen seventy three (Wikipedia, Illinois). After being fully explored and settled, Illinois was enabled to become a state on the “date of eighteen eighteen”. During the civil war in the nineteenth century, southern Illinois would serve as a strategic supply point and root for the northern side. St. Anne’s has played a major role in developing the city of Detroit and will continue to do so in the future. However, the structure of St. Anne’s is continuing to wither. The Church has been through eight restorations since its original founding. (Gay, 98-99) Throughout the inside of the Church, ceiling damage and plaster falling off walls can be viewed. The withering features of St. Anne’s Parish describes “who we are” in Detroit. St. Anne’s is a beautiful work of art that is falling apart because there is a lost sense of appreciation. St. Anne’s is filled with hand crafted statues and ceiling painting that would be considered magnificent in other cities, but are however viewed as a sign of the past in Detroit.

In Kansas, there are many unusual and unheard places which are pretty cool. They are also awesome places to visit because there is also very little crowd. Let’s take a break from the places everyone has heard of and concentrate on the lesser known places. First, we are gonna take a trip to Norton, a town in Kansas (obviously). Next to the First State Bank lies a gallery called They Also Ran. This gallery is about the people who lost presidential elections in the U.S. The reason it was built was because in the early 1960’s, the town of Norton wanted to boost local tourism. William Walter Rouse, local businessman and president of the First State Bank decided to build the gallery. The gallery was built in honor of Horace Greeley. He lost to Ulysses
