Watson’s primary critique of introspection was that it absolutely forms no part of the methods, and the scientific value of the data collected is solely dependent on interpretations that are often quick to express it in terms of consciousness (Watson, 1994). He also argued that consciousness was not something one could study and no real need for introspection; to Watson this really hindered any development of the field of psychology as a real science (Langdal, 2015). Watson noted that psychology had failed to develop as a natural science, due to the concentration of consciousness (Langdal, 2015). This indicated consciousness was not productive for any two psychologist to agree with the definition or what particular methods to utilized for a
study (pg.62).Watson proposed first that psychology must be the science of behavior, secondly with emphasis on observing, predicting and controlling behavior (Langdal, 2015). Watson also thought that comprehending animal behavior would also be relevant to understanding human behavior that there is a direct correlation (Langdal, 2015). Introspection seems to bare some importance to the field of psychology. However, changing behaviors, I think that introspection can provide some insight into our current mental conscious, enabling some possibility of change if needed in a particular behavior.

In fact, Finny acts as a foil for Gene throughout the story, carrying a completely different outlook on things. Gene’s savage nature allows him to identify the evil within people when Finny simply acknowledges the positive traits in his friends, disregarding the concept of wickedness as a whole. Through Gene and Finny’s friendship, John Knowles illustrates the significance of how one has the ability to perceive others.

Watson was an American psychologist that helped path the way for other researchers in psychology. He was born on January 9th, 1878, in South Carolina. His mother was devoted to religion and she pushed her ideals and morals onto him. She prohibited smoking, drinking, adultery, and other sinful acts. This led to Watson growing up hating religion and eventually, opposing it. Also, Watson was a delinquent when he was young, he was arrested twice and did poorly academically; but, with the help of his mother and her connections, it gave him an opportunity to attend Furman University of South Carolina. This gave him a second chance and he didn’t take it for granted. Watson graduated with a master’s when he was 21. After he finished his years in Furman University, he was presented with an offer from University of Chicago, for his graduates study in psychology. On the 1st of November 2013, I performed my first simulation on the module, Foundation Skills for Nursing. This simulation was on checking for vital signs in patients particularly, measuring the blood pressure (BP) which is the force of blood vessels against the walls of the vessels (Marieb and Hoehn, 2010). William Wundt conceived psychology as a science that could be experimented. His work majored on the concept of voluntarism as a way of coming into terms with psychological problems. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
