“Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans” (Jacques-Yves Cousteau). Africa is a continent surrounded by water, yet many African villages suffer from lack of clean water. With the earth holding more than 7 billion people, water pollution is one of the major causes of human infection and death from such diseases. Because there are so many possible ways to become infected, many humans die from water pollution. In Africa, population is increasing so rapidly, it is forcing more people to live an unsafe life due to the unsanitary waters, such as the Nile River that surrounds them, affecting their education, health, and poverty. Charity: Water and UNICEF are two organizations trying to find a solution to this issue by eliminating and decreasing the amount of unsanitary water infecting the African people today.
Water pollution today infects thousands of Africans, inducing life-threatening illnesses that could eventually lead them to their death. Africa is the second-largest continent in the world, with the largest in population. Africa contains 20% of the world's total land area. By the beginning of the 21st century, when combining the European and the American populations, Africa's total population exceeded them. Africa holds such a massive amount of the world’s population, and therefore this 20% are in severe risk of dying from the polluted waters. Africa’s rate of natural increase is very high compared to the rest of the world ("Africa"). The more the population increases, the more Africans will eventually become infected from unsanitary water.

...y African’s health, but their education and financial status is also affected. Organizations such as Charity: Water and UNICEF strive to find a solution to the issue of water pollution by both eliminating and decreasing the amount of unsanitary water, and providing individuals with clean water.
Although extremely detrimental to the people of Africa, there is a chance that these individuals are not the only ones that may be affected by the issue of the current water pollution. There is no borderline of which disease cannot cross. There is an extremely large chance that over time, the infectious diseases from water pollution will spread to areas other than Africa, becoming a universal issue. Although the issue of water pollution is growing each day, there is hope that with the world’s awareness, and organizations’ help, the issue is soon to become one of the pasts.
