Monuments are items or statues that symbolizes certain individuals or groups of people. A monuments composition primarily symbolizes the individuals importance. for instance a statue of solid gold would normally be for a very important person, as a stone statue would be for someone not nearly as important. The statue of Christopher Columbus is relatively small in comparison to the Washington monument. People generally consider three factors when memorializing people or actions. the first being Importance. The second being area. The last being time in history.
People have the biggest impact on history. Only certain people have the chance to be memorialized. These people are normally very special, in their actions or achievements. Important people like George Washington, Christopher Columbus(source B), Or public figures. Factors like who the person was or where they lived are normally taken into consideration when building a monument. The area of a monument not just the culture of the area, but the actual land is considered when building a monument. Normally these people receive these acknowledgments for great actions. Similar to protecting the innocent and defeating evil. or in the case of Christopher Columbus, discovering a new land. factors that contribute to building a monument are simply the persons actions or events that took place.

People in different parts of the world memorialize events for different reasons.
America might memorialize the presidents. Where as people in Germany might memorialize its leader. The area of a memorial determines who or what is memorialized. when people consider memorials they consider the persons importance and ties to the area. The carving of crazy horse in a south Dakota peak has Been waited on for many years.(source c) Where as something like that would not be waited for in Europe. People in Europe would have nothing to do with a monument to crazy horse, He has no significance to
them. When a monument is destroyed or moved it degrades its value. In the case of a graveyard in Rosemead, A graveyard faces an uncertain future.(source d) When something has been in a place for a long time, Moving it essentially ruins the monument. part of the time when you move a monument your destroying it, your destroying its testament to time and the people who earned it. Monuments such as graveyards must be protected. To conclude. Monuments should be protected at all costs. Nothing is more important than celebrating those who have done good for others. a monument in one area may have a completely different meaning in another. Monuments mean different things all around the world. a monuments composition placement and time in history are all taken into consideration. Clearly monuments have many factors that go into their construction.
Monument 14 is an exciting, compelling novel, written by Emmy Laybourne with 352 pages that tells the story of 14 kids that are living through what seems to be the apocalypse. It was published by Square Fish Inc. on May 28, 2013 and it is a realistic fiction novel. I chose to read this book because the informant at the bookstore told me that it was popular and had a great story to it, which she described to me briefly. I hoped to have a book that put me in a situation that would not normally happen with lots of action, adventure, and unpredictability.
The memorial grew out of a need to heal the nation's wounds as America struggled to reconcile different moral and political points of view. In fact, the memorial was conceived and designed to make no political statement whatsoever about the war. The Memorial is a place where everyone, regardless of opinion, can come together and remember and honor those who served. By doing so, the memorial has paved the way towards reconciliation and healing, a process that continues today.
The need to memorialize events or people is complex; in some cases, monuments honor moments of great achievement, while in other cases, monuments pay homage to deep sacrifice. A monument's size, location, and materials are all considerations when planning and creating a memorial to the past. Examples of such feats are the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and even Mount Rushmore. For the latter of the memorials, an entire mountain was dedicated to the faces of four major presidents.
A memorable monument is a historical structure that represents a significant person or event. They are designed to show the importance of either the person or event. Monuments are intended to last forever so the subject will never be forgotten to society. The factors that should be considered when creating a memorable monument are that the subject must be powerful and meaningful to society and the design should resemble the significance of the subject. These factors help communicate the magnitude of the individual or group’s sacrifice, as well as honor moments of great achievement in history.
Washington Square Park is home to thousands of New York University Students, families leisurely strolling through the park on afternoons, people cooling off at the fountain during the summer, couples lounging on the green grass, and even home to the New York City Pillow Fight held during the summer. At the center of Greenwich Village, it provides an escape from the busy traffic and city surrounding it. Most importantly, it is home to the Washington Square Arch.
The buildings that I chose to do were an advert for a powerful civilization. The emperors showed their power that they are the great leaders with a lot of money that could get many workers as they possibly could to erect their pattern of monument. The emperor Augustus used propaganda to ensure a vast base of support leading up to his renunciation in 27BC. The Roman emperors also built all these monuments in regard to public entertainment for their political advertising.
1. I chose the Alamo Cenotaph Monument in San Antonio Texas. It is located adjacent to the front of the Alamo. Construction began in 1936 and took two years to complete. It was created by sculptor Pompeo Coppini from a design envisioned by architect Carlton Adams. The state of Texas provided the money to build the monument. It is sculpted using Georgia marble and the base using pink Texas granite sunk in concrete. The sculpture features a 60-foot-high shaft, sloping capstone and a 40-foot-long base.
...lding can be, yet it has its own distinctive style and meaning. The Memorial is not a mirror image of its ancient ancestor, rather, it is a descendant of centuries of development and change. The Jefferson Memorial is no simple carbon copy of the original Pantheon, it is a building and a work of art in its own right and should be appreciated regardless of history.
Memorialization of a person place or event can be done in several different ways achieved by several different aspects. With attentive consideration of purpose, location, and material, a monument or museum can pay tribute to respectable people or moments in history.
Memorials are used to represent people and their impacts on history. A group or agency should consider the person's’ impact on history, proper representation of the individual, and making sure there are the proper reasons to create it.
Our nation's revolution was a great achievement in U.S History. With the dawn of a new nation, there would have to be a central location to make the new decisions of our country. Our capitol has stood as the heart of our country since the late 1700s. The United States capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. For almost two centuries it has housed the meeting chambers of the senate and the House of Representatives. Begun in 1793, the capitol building has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored. Today our capitol stands as a monument to the American people and their government. (AOC.gov)
When you look at it, you should want your eyes to pop out. You shouldn't want it to be compared to anything around it. If you can compare it to you liked then that's not a decent monument."Waiting for Crazy Horse (source C), isn't completed, it's a slow job". The face is the only thing that's completed after all that time. The rest- his broad chest and flowing hair, it's his outstretched arm, his horse- is still encased in a stone. If you look at it, you would love it, because i looked it up and found it and it was beautiful. The face that is done is gorgeous, it looks just like the stone. As you are structuring the monument, make sure it's extraordinary. If it have your name on it you should want it to be neat and good looking, make it pop." Looking up at the monument in the golden light of late afternoon, it was hard not to be impressed" (Source
In Washington Square', Henry James used a refined technique of narration, language, symbolism and irony as he explored the psychological dimensions of his characters' actions, motivations and interpersonal relationships. He did so as he confronted the tragedy of the immorality of human beings, personified in the characters of Dr. Sloper and Morris Townsend, in dominating the spirit of Sloper's daughter, Catherine, for their own ends.
During the Hellenistic period, you find the first monument built to celebrate someone who was not a general, god, or ruler. The Monument to Iysicrates is located in Athens, and is the first time a Corthinian column is used on the exterior. There was not a lot of money to spend on new temples but they still managed to build the Temple of Zeus Olympius. There is not much left of it today but it was huge. This temple was decastyle, meaning ten columns across, and the columns were sixty-five feet tall.
Monuments are a symbol of a significant time in history. Monuments represent life, death, success, and struggle just to name a few. They have become as important to society as the events they represent. They bring history alive to new generations and memories to those who experience them firsthand. Monuments create a bridge between generations. Many parents feel a certain indescribable joyfulness when they see the look in their child’s eyes they had went they viewed the same monument.
