There are two versions of the film, War of the Worlds the eldest was produced in 1953, and the newer version was produced in 2005. There are many similarities and differences between the two, including the main characters, the setting, and parts of the plot. One of the main differences in the two movies is the setting. In the 1953 version, the movie was supposed to take place in mid-20th century Los Angeles, California. However, the 2005 film primarily took place in present-day New York City. At the very end of the 2005 film, there was a scene in Boston, Massachusetts. The setting ties into the plot and why the main characters moved where they did. In the 1953 version of the film, the main characters stayed in Los Angeles the whole time because there really was no need to leave. In the 2005 version of the film, however, there was a need to leave. The main character, Ray Ferrier was forced to leave New York City for two reasons, to leave the city that has essentially turned to anarchy and he wanted to get to ex-wife in Boston because she is his kids’ mother. Clayton Forrester, a young nuclear physicist who fell in love with Ann Robinson. He, along with a small group of other scientists tried to figure out a biological weakness in the Martians and the aliens eventually succumbed to their weaknesses from a bacteria that they were exposed to in Earth’s atmosphere. Ray Ferrier, the main character in the 2005 film could not have been more polar opposite to Clayton Forrester. He was a middle-aged, divorced, depressed man who had two kids with his ex-wife, Mary Ann. He lived in New York City when the aliens made their way to Earth, and although he struggled, he made his way to his ex-wife in Boston, Massachusetts. Overall, he did not seem like a happy character nor did it seem like he was happy to see his kids. It seems like the kids felt the same
