Ever since Mickey Mouse was created in 1928, Disney has been at the forefront of the cartoon world. Every youngster has a favorite Disney character or movie. Over the years they have created some of the best movies of all time. However, Walt Disney hasn’t always been successful. He survived bankruptcy in 1922 and had to rethink how he was going to approach his life. I think it is safe to say the approach he took was the right one. One of his first productions was an animated short film Alice’s Wonderland, which turned into what we know as Alice in Wonderland. Mr. Disney’s first attempt at a feature-length animated film debuted in 1937 after three years of production. His masterpiece of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of his most awarded movies. Following World War II Disney Production was in a substantial amount of debt. They needed to come out with a new movie that would win over the public of America. They came out with just the right movie, Cinderella, in 1950. This was their biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs some 15 years ago. Because of Cinderella Disney Productions stayed in business and could go on to produce many more heartwarming movies.

Mr. Disney has made a few animated short films that have been very successful, but his first attempt at a full-length animated feature film was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film was based on the fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm. Alice in Wonderland is a Disney film that is different from all the others. It was released in 1951, similar to Cinderella, and helped the world get over the war. It is the 13th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series and is one of Mr. Disney’s favorites. Alice is a bit younger than most female Disney characters, about seven or eight. Most of the other Disney movie’s offer a world where the character had no control on what was in it, however Alice gets to live in her own Wonderland. She is a very adventurous child and wants to discover what is around her, testing her imagination. Alice learns many lessons and values that most young children should learn and use in their own lives. Most of the Disney movies have many valuable lessons that can be related to everyday life.
The film is about the death of Alice’s husband and the hardships of the working class. Alice learns to live her life out of the shadow of her abusive husband and makes a new life for herself and her son. Her character is of a real woman who struggles and faces failures and successes. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a story about a little girl who comes into contact with unpredictable, illogical, basically mad world of Wonderland by following the White Rabbit into a huge rabbit – hole. Everything she experiences there challenges her perception and questions common sense. This extraordinary world is inhabited with peculiar, mystical and anthropomorphic creatures that constantly assault Alice which makes her to question her fundamental beliefs and suffer an identity crisis. Nevertheless, as she woke up from “such a curious dream” she could not help but think “as well she might, what a wonderful dream it had been ”.
As a young child Disney had many interests mainly in the arts. He went from drawing to animation to acting. He kept learning new things and ended up being very successful when he combined all three of those things. He had people not like his stuff, steal his films, and had the majority of his workers protest and quit. All of these things would of been good reasons for him to stop, but of course Disney did not for he was obsessed with being the best. The reason he started doing his animation was to make people laugh and enjoy themselves. Even during The Great Depression he succeeded in making people enjoy themselves once in awhile. Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents are Elias Disney, and Flora Call Disney. Walt has three brothers and one sister. When Walt turned 4 years old, the family moved to Marceline, Missouri where they lived on a farm. Their neighbor's in Missouri helped Walt find his love for drawing. The Disney family moved to Kansas City in 1911. Walt attended Benton Grammar school, where he fell in love with motion pictured movies. In 1917, Walt joined the Red Cross after, which he was sent to Europe where he was an ambulance driver (Stewart, 2009, pg.13). Walt became a more serious drawer while he was in France. Disney in World War II Despite his career’s rough start in the 1920’s, Walt Disney has become a household name, known for films such as Bambi and Peter Pan. The cartoonist’s career and company survived many eras of American history; this included the second World War, a harsh time where everyone seemed to be working and living for the war. During World War II, Disney contributed to the war effort through the creation of military insignias, aircraft nose art, and propaganda films. Throughout World War II, Walt Disney Productions created a total of approximately 1,200 military emblems.
After his first film business failed, artist Walt Disney and his brother Roy started a film studio in Hollywood in 1923. The first Mickey Mouse cartoon, Plane Crazy, was completed in 1928. Steamboat Willie, the first cartoon with a soundtrack, was the third production. The studio’s first animated feature film was Snow White in 1937, followed by Fantasia and Pinocchio in the 1940s. Disneyland, the theme park developed largely by Walt, opened in 1955 in Anaheim, California. The television series, the Mickey Mouse Club, was produced from 1955 to 1959, and the Disney weekly television series (under different names, including The Wonderful World of Disney) ran for 29 straight years. In the year 1928 Walter Disney’s company started looking up and everything started to go right when Disney came out with two silent Mickey Mouse cartoons Plane Crazy and Gallop in’ Gaucho. Then Disney produced the third Mickey Mouse cartoon called Steamboat Willie, and sound was added to the film. Steamboat Willie was an immediate success and led to the studio’s rise in the animation market. In 1929 Disney produced cartoons featuring Mickey Mouse and his pals Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. The Main Street station, is the curtains to a large production as if the Magic Kingdom was a theater. As I wander beneath the archway, I notice that above the arch is a plaque that reads: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy”. As I continue to stroll through the passage on the way to Main Street, there are posters of “upcoming attractions” that line the walls on both sides. I then step into Main Street U.S.A. and begin to hear the Victorian style orchestra playing over the speakers. I notice some Disney pals in Town Square greeting guests as if they were old friends. Then I begin to travel further down the street, and the smell of the caramel apples, chocolate chip cookies, and other sweets walk out of the open doors of the bakery and into the street.
