To be honest, describing Waghar shouldn’t be as difficult, because she’s my one good friend in Oakville and I see her all of the days of the week. I think that I’m having trouble with describing her because I’m worried that no one will see her the way I see her. Waghar is typically very classy with the clothing she wears to school; she always has matching socks,this is something we’ve had an entire conversation about before. Waghar’s parents are from South Sudan and she often talks about her family that still there. Waghar has an upright posture when she walks and her body language gives off the feeling that although she’s small in size and often blends in, she’s someone you should definitely pay attention to because you can learn from her.
It is important to note that Elizabeth Warnock Fernea herself is a brilliant writer, and her piece of Guests of the Sheik offers a very in debt analysis of an Iraqi village that would not be seen from most outsiders. How while Fernea concedes the fact that she is not an anthropologist she was married to one and the first two years of their marriage they lived in an Iraqi village called El Nahra. Since she lived in a village that has hardly any social contact between men and women, Fernea is able to give us a beautiful account of what the women’s life style, roles, and other aspects of a women’s life in an Iraqi village. While women are not treated incredibly badly there lifestyle was a lot different than the one an American woman would live. One of the primary directions of Fernea’s study are to show how the author could be credible in ultimately idealizing her culture and peoples in this ethnography. He went against his cultural tradition and celebrated the birth of his beloved daughter, Malala. Her father is a champion of girls’ education; he is a woman’s rights advocate. He embraces democracy with passion and believes that every child in this world should be educated, especially women. Malala was born in 1997, as her father was struggling to establish his school against a deeply corrupt government and a mufti (a Muslim scholar) who opposed the education of girls. First of all, Latifa had to deal with the struggles her mom was facing. Latifa’s mother was very ill so she dealt with the situation by trying to help her mother out in every way possible. Latifa was always there to comfort her mom. Latifa’s mother was also struggling with not being able to work. Because women weren’t allowed to do anything in the Afghan society, Latifa opened a school for the apartment children. Latifa’s mother managed to help out by cooking, which she considered a form of work. She watched her children be mistreated throughout the Taliban rule. Latifa had all intentions of receiving an education but she couldn’t go to school due to the laws of the Taliban. Latifa’s mother saw strong ambitions in her daughter so she encouraged her to believe in herself and always do her best. Latifa managed to deal with her mom’s struggles very well.
The main character says he is “so much a child in my bed. Nothing but a big boy who who needs to be held” (116). The way she talks to him is like a mother figure, but twisted at the same time, “Come to mamita. My stupid little bird” (118). He is frail, gentle, trusting, young, and she is the opposite of innocent, “I’m vindictive and cruel, and I’m capable of anything,” she says (109). The autobiography I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai begins with the scene of young pakistani education and women’s rights activist Malala being shot in the head. Her school bus had been stopped by the Taliban who, after asking which of the girls was Malala, put a bullet into her head. Malala ends the powerful prologue with the words “Who is Malala? I am Malala and this is my story” (9). Malala then rewinds to the story of her birth and how in Pakistan, no one congratulated her parents when she was born because she was a girl. Pakistani culture pushes for the birth of a boy as an islamic majority country. However, her father saw the potential in his daughter as a great leaser and named her after one of the great female leaders in Pakistan- Malalai of Maiwand who inspired the Afghan people, who were losing hope, to spur the army to victory against the British/Indian forces. Malala describes life in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan. She outlines the Indian- Pakistan revolution and the shift of the Pashtun people into the Swat Valley. Malala’s father grew up in Shahpur but struggled to get his education in the town where he met Malala’s mother. They married and his dream of building a school, Khushal Public School, became reality when they moved into Mingora.
Kasia Elghazawi, born Katarzyna Anna Krupska, was born on November 4, 1975 in Klodzko, Poland. Growing up, she loved to paint and read. A lot of her time was spent reading books and learning new information from them. She describes school as being “very strict,” having to wear uniforms and having very harsh teachers. The teachers demanded a great amount of respect. She had little to no technology growing up, only having a TV with two channels. Kasia had no internet, no computer, and not even a home phone. She says that although having technology now is more convenient, having no technology makes you spend more time with your family and gives you more time to enjoy life.
Zoe is a very great attentive student. She is a student whoholds a lot of valuable pronciples from her Haitian-Cuabn culture. The monment she enters the building she greets people with respect. She always says good morning and refers to all staff and her peers by their name. Zoe always comes to school in a positive attitude. I have yet to see her upset which allows me to believe she is good in toning her emotions or personal life outside of school grounds. Outside of school she is always busy between homework, family and tutoring at the SCO Family Services program in Downtown, Brooklyn. By the end of her long day she is exhausted but yet a smile is always on her face giving no sinces of anger or worries.if I was to describe Zoe’s emotional tone or color it would be lavender. She is calm, soothing to me around but ye keps firm.she had a bright future a head of her. Between the classes I have observed her in she is always energetic, cheerful and strong minded. She is excited in theatre class showing off her acting skills and in Spanish class she is attentive when doing her Spanish class work.
Reza Aslan is a 44 year old, Muslim who was born in Tehran, Iran and later moved to America. Reza studies religion, is a writer, a writing professor, and a television producer. Reza graduated from multiple schools like Santa Clara University, Harvard Divinity School, University of California, University of Iowa, and Harvard University. Reza Aslan’s career consists of working as a professor for writing at the University of California, part taking in The Yale Humanist Community, and being a trustee on the board for Chicago Theological Seminary. Along with his career he is a member of many organizations like the American Academy of Religions where many religious scholars inform others about many different religious topics and issues. Reza is also an executive producer of the ABC, drama, Kings and Prophets.
Her friend stares back at Maricel, confused why she was looking at her and not me. She states her full name with a serious face, Hannah Kabura Kariuki, born and raised in Kenya, a country with Swahili speakers. In 2009, Hannah moved to the States; at the age of five, she was also enrolled in the English Immersion program as a kindergartner. Hannah was fluent in Swahili, with a year and a half of the program, it provided her the English skills she needed in order to be enrolled in regular classes. Unfortunately, today Hannah cannot read, write nor speak fluent Swahili.
“I am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai is a beautiful and hard breaking book at the same time. This book is an autobiography that describes the author childhood and her support on the right for girls to have an education. Through this autobiography, Malala describes the restrictions that are imposed on females in her country. There are many that believe that woman of Pakistan should not be educated in the other hands there are a few that oppose this idea. Malala’s support on education for girls almost cost her life, since she was shot by the Taliban. From a multicultural perspective Malala’s story touches on topics such; culture shock, discrimination within your own culture, oppression, religion, family and woman’s right. Despite the opposition

The novel depicts that how you react to the social pressures defines you as well, which is a concept that is often lost, yet Mohja Kahf depicts this clearly. The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf shows how social pressures and obstacles shape your identity and without them, you could be stuck just adopting the same identity as your parents.
It stands to a reason that children are magnificent human beings. Once they are born, they do not know much, but within time they get to learn more and more. For this paper I chose to interview a young girl who is ten years old and lives in a family with both parents and a younger sister. The sister who is eight years old is very close to her age, however, their personality traits differ significantly. The subject is Caucasian and currently goes to school; the subject is in fifth grade. The family has a middle class socioeconomic status and live in an apartment which is spacious enough for the four family members.
