On March 3rd, 2018, I attended the WSMA performance at Rufus King High School at 11:24 PM. I played gavotte by Jean Baptiste Lully in A minor. First, I went in bowed, introduced myself and told her what song I was playing. I started to play. I was doing good until the last part. I started to get nervous and messed up a little bit. It was my first time, so I was not expecting to get a one. However, I was so surprised when I saw that I was only one point away from getting a one. Next time, I really hope to get a one. The two evaluations have their differences and similarities. According to Mrs. Amaya’s rubric, I did an excellent job on the intonation, accuracy, and technique. My intonation was perfect because I tuned my violin before playing in front of my classmates and my pitches were correct. I did a nice job on the G sharp. My notes and rhythms were excellent. My bow hand was also good. According to my adjudicator’s rubric, I did well on tone, technique, and expression. According to Mrs. Amaya’s rubric, I did not do well on tone and expression. I need to work on bowings. I also need to work on phasing. According to my adjudicator’s rubric, I did not do well on intonation and accuracy. I need to work on my rhythms and my pitch adjustment skills. My adjudicator said I need to make my fourth finger E’s …show more content…
To improve my expression, I will focus and work hard on my phasing. To improve my rhythms, I will play with metronomes. To improve my fourth finger, I will bend my thumb and make sure to always my pinky on the top. To improve for my upcoming jury, I will practice harder, ask help from my classmates or from my teacher, I will listen to my song to know what it sounds like, I will try to take my violin home sometimes, and I will play with the
For my first concert report, I have decided to attend the Applied Music Student Recital. The musical performance was at Palomar College on February 27, 2015 from 1:00P.M.--2:00P.M. at the performance lab room D-10. The type of music that was presented at the concert was a brass ensemble, chamber music, classical, contemporary, jazz, opera, percussion, and many vocal arrangements. There was a total of eight musical Palomar College student performers who are majoring in music theory. I am only going to focus on a few of the musical pieces that I enjoyed most. The majority of the performers were dressed in formal attire. As the men were dressed in a dress shirt, a tie or bow tie of their choice, black slacks, and dress shoes. As for the women, they wore dresses, skirts and dress shoes. Also there was a pianist, accompanist who is a Palomar College music teacher named Ruth Weber. The performance was in a music concert hall with roughly fifty audience members.
with out practicing for a while. Do this and you should have a fun and enjoyable time.
This was an oral presentation, in which I prosecuted Macbeth. I received a grade of A-, however was told that it was my actual presentation rather than my essay that stopped me getting a higher grade :)
While assessment can give students, parents, and administrators a view of where a student stands in terms of achievement, one must always remember that the grade is subjective. There is no right or wrong answer in English, as there is in math or other quantitative areas of study. The basis of “a grade” depends upon a student’s ability to choose a course of thought and convey it accurately and convincingly in written form. The subjectivity falls in how the teacher interprets or responds to the ideas and supporting information. For example, during my first venture as a student teacher, I was given the task of grading “free choice” essays. The students were given free range of the subject matter, and were told to write an insightful and poignant essay on the topic of their choice. After grading the papers, my mentor sat with me and we discussed some of the grades I had given for several of the students’ papers. Upon glancing briefly at the comments I had made and the grades I had given, my mentor began asking direct questions as to why I would grade certain papers one way, but would assign a different grade to others that were quite similar. As she went on to read through other papers, she would agree with some of my grades, but strongly disagree with others. I found this interesting because, while we were both reading the same essays, we were focusing on different points or concepts, which shaded our perception of the piece as a whole.
I attended the Student Recital Concert on April 16th in the Theatre on the 2nd floor at SWIC. It was apparently the last recital of the year. The spotlight was focused on the stage and it was dark in the audience. The only people who were dressed nicely in the audience were performers who were not backstage yet. Everyone else wore normal, casual attire. The room was fairly large. The first act was Sonata 1 in F major. This came from the Baroque era. This was written by Benedetto Marcello. Originally a tuba solo, this piece was accompanied by the piano. Christopher Smith played the tuba, while Diana Umali played the piano. The woman was of Asian descent and wore a black shirt, black pants and black flats. The Caucasian gentleman wore a rust colored dress shirt, black pants and dress shoes. Largo 1 was slow and somewhat depressing. It sounded melancholy. Largo II seemed to progress louder and louder. Largo III picked up some speed. I actually liked it and it started off faster. The duo finally finished at around seven minutes and forty-eight seconds. They collected their chairs and music sheet stands and exited the stage. Then a young black girl, Kayla Jennings, walks on to the stage. An older man, Dennis Bergin, steps out onto the stage and sits on the bench in front of the piano. He was wearing a nice suit. The girl then runs backstage, as if she has forgotten something. She came back out and stood in the middle of the stage. She then gestures to the pianist. The girl then starts singing Homeward Bound by Jay Althouse. The girl was a soprano and I could tell that she was nervous. She seemed to laugh a lot during the song as if she was not taking it seriously. About three minutes into the song, Kayla laughs and proceeds to put her ...
In order to help me with my grammar this time I decided to go to the Writing Center. The Writing Center was extremely helpful, they gave me tips and really helped revised my essay. I went to the writing center twice to get the most grammar check possible. However, I did do some changes in my essay after going so I believe that grammar errors might still be present. Next time I know that their services are great and I have to set up an appointment as soon as I can. When it comes to this essay I would give myself a C- cause I feel as if my essay might not had fulfilled full on the request on the prompt. The book was a bit difficult to explain even after I read and re-read the book at least twice. On my last essay I received a D, which I have to say threw me off. Throughout, much of my high school years as long as we had the point across the grammar was not very focused on which now I know it needs way more importance. In the feedback I was told that my essay as a matter a fact did accomplish the prompts request. Despite that, it had too many grammatical errors which caused my essay to get a bad
I will concentrate in operations identifying relevant performance measures and comparing them to measures used by my syndicate company Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC).
Since setting this goal for myself, I have been working outside of class like was stated during midterms, to improve rolling through my entire foot rather than just at my toes. Improving in this area has allowed me to gain ankle strength. Gaining ankle strength has allowed me to feel more confident when performing combinations in the center. In addition to improving this specific goal, I have as well been working on releasing tension in my hands and dropping my eyebrows. Focusing on my eyebrows has been the hardest thing for me in class because it is such a habitual thing. I have noticed that I mainly raise them while doing petite allegro, pirouettes, and combinations across the floor. During my final, I felt an improvement by the way I was so focused on it, but occasionally there are times that Dr. Sims still catches where I think that I am not doing
Results. Write up your result (the letters and the full typology) and your interpretation of the meaning of your result (do not copy and paste what the assessment gives you).
The obstacle I had to confront a problem my freshman year in high school. I entered into orchestra class to learn the basics of playing violin. I use to play before, but I forgot how it was played. Our teacher gave us a book to read called the “The Inner Game of Tennis.” Told us to look through it and find the deeper mean towards the book. I found it interesting that he gave us a book of tennis theme. The thing we should focus on is the position of our finger patterns and note names.
Teacher evaluations have been and continue to be under scrutiny. Major reform efforts are taking place to improve the process. Traditional teacher evaluations are no longer considered satisfactory. Such evaluations typically occur one or two times a year and are administered, in most cases, by the school principal. There are many reasons why traditional teacher evaluations are looked down upon. One of the reasons is because of the fact they are done so infrequently. Very little can be observed regarding the teaching and learning processes (O’Donovan, 2011). This can lead to a very unfair representation of a teacher’s performance since much of what a teacher can do, cannot be observed in one or two observations. It is also questioned whether the judgments of administrators are valid due to both the infrequency and lack of evaluator training (O’Donovan, 2011; Milanowski, 2011). Traditional evaluations, furthermore, have been found to be very ineffective in the way in which they are scored. Most educators receive high marks which makes it very difficult to determine differences in teachers’ abilities (Long, 2011). Once again, this is probably a result of an absence in evaluator training and a common understanding of what effective teaching looks like (O’ Donovan, 2011; Long, 2011). The greatest problem with traditional teacher evaluations is the fact that they do nothing to improve the bottom-line: student and teacher performance (O’Donovan, 2011; Milanowski, 2011).
Self evaluations have the potential to be incredibly insightful because one can easily judge the honesty of an individual if they've been observing that individual for a length of time. It also allows one to glimpse into how someone views their own visage, ken and performance. One could find great differences in how one believes they're viewed versus reality. However, I will attempt to present myself in most honest terms. My performance in this year's English class could be summarized by one word laziness, although that seems to discredit the other three years of high school that could easily be consumed by that definition as well.
...ement systems which combines both financial and non-financial measures which are considered more appropriate with the growing market. For instance, the two well-known performance measurements used by wide range of companies: Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and Performance Prism.
I placed my hands on the ivory keys and broke the silence with my first note. The Music Teachers’ Association of California award a Certificate of Merit to musicians who pass a music theory, ear training, and sight reading exam, and demonstrate musical excellence through performance. Successfully participating in the program for all four high school years and reaching a level of at least seven, musicians obtain the Senior Medallion. I had learned and practiced piano for twelve years, working towards achieving the Senior Medallion. It was my final year, and I was at level eight. I easily completed the examinations, but I knew the challenge would come with the performance. Immediately, my fingers sounded lost and clumsy; Each note seemed to tell
There is only one area that needs improvement because I did very well. The key area that I need to improve is making more eye contact. I practiced three times at my house in front of my mom, but I obviously didn't practice enough.
