Cyberbullying is a recurring factor in suicide. According to the article, “High-Tech Bullies,” written by Ingrid Sturgis, awareness has increased over the amount of people hurting themselves because of cyberbullying. Victims of bullying should have the option to avoid harassment because cyberbullying hurts people. Having a secure software that would protect people from bullies could decrease bullying online.
Cyberbullying is when people go online to address others in a threatening manner. Social media attracts crowds to participate. Social media is a virtual home for people who believe they cannot be themselves around other human beings. It allows people to be someone else and not have anyone judge or isolate them. However, social media is also used as a cover for a bully to portray himself as someone else with intent to hurt other individuals. The software would be called “Leave Me Alone.” It would be installed on any mobile device. A factor of the software is the word filter. It will detect vulgar words. Words and phrases used by bullies to demean others, such as “kill yourself,” “hate,” and “ugly,” will be filtered. The “Leave Me Alone” software will alert the device owner about the words being used in the received messages, videos, or pictures. Before looking at the message, the viewer has an idea of what type of content is in it. To keep curiosity from convincing the person to look at the message, as soon as the person decides not to view it, deletion will be automatic. The person could also adjust the settings to not receive any messages from that person again. This would be great for people who have been bullied and who have an idea about who has been bothering
