According to medicinenet.com, veterinary science/medicine is, “the medical science concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in animals,” and “veterinarians prevent the transmission of animal disease to people, and advise owners on proper care of animals.” The type of animals treated depends on the type of veterinarian practice, and the three major categories are large animal, small animal, and mixed animal. Although there are many branches of veterinary medicine such as but not limited to, behavior, dentistry and surgery. Most colleges only require you to complete 4 years minimum of undergraduate schooling. Most vets take classes like, biology, chemistry, physics, math animal science and much more. Other classes such as communication and humanities may be advantageous for pursuing a career in the veterinary field. After completing your undergraduate schooling, you must apply to veterinarian school, and although different schools may have different requirements, you must take a college admissions test, for example the GRE (Graduate Record Examination). Once gaining acceptance into veterinarian school, you must complete fours years of veterinarian school to earn your D.V.M (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). In the United States, after gaining you D.V.M, you must acquire a licensure from any state in which you want to practice veterinary medicine in, by passing the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam. If students in high school would like to start prepping to become a vet, they can do so by talking to their counselor and charging their schedule to attended classes that will get them on the track to veterinarian school. Classs in high school that will further your knowledge and prepare you for veterinary science are, biology and chemistry, 4 years of math classes (algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus), and 4 years of English. Also getting involved at your local animal shelter or clinic is never a bad idea
