Why choose to become a veterinarian?
An anonymous person once said, “Passion is the difference between having a job or having a career”. Everyone has something that they are passionate about whether small or large. This passion should correlate in with the job/career you have later in life. People who enjoy animals, for instance, may become a veterinarian. A veterinarian is a medical professional who protects the health and well-being of animals. Not only do they help animals, but they can support the environment, too. In numerous cases, veterinarians can even save your pet’s life. When choosing this career, there are many factors that can impact your decision like the education needed, hours and salary, and the work environment.

Choosing to become a veterinarian means that you have to put up with working in different environments. Going into further detail about the work environment, www. sites.tufts.edu states, “Not all veterinarians work in a traditional clinic setting. Veterinarians who treat horses and other livestock must travel between their offices and farms or ranches. They work outdoors in all kinds of weather and may have to perform surgery, often under unsanitary conditions. Those working in food safety and inspection also travel to farms, or even slaughterhouses and food-processing plants. Some veterinarians choose to conduct research, and work in a laboratory or office. These veterinarians spend little time working with animals. Veterinarians’ work can sometimes be emotionally stressful, as they deal with sick animals and anxious owners. The workplace can also become noisy due to sick or distressed animals. When working with animals that are frightened or in pain, veterinarians risk being bitten, kicked, or scratched”. Many individuals who choose to become a vet cannot handle the different physical and/or emotional challenges that come with the responsibilities of caring for sickened animals.
