Veterinarian: The Animal Doctor
As the human heart continues to grow, peoples ' connection with animals grows stronger as they began to treat their pets as part of the family. The field of veterinarians is growing scientifically and technologically as they become more into demand. Veterinarians must care about animals, but they must also separate themselves from their patients which makes their job so difficult. Many others types of medical doctors may claim that veterinarians are not real doctors, but they do not fully realize the difficulty of having to know the medical history of more than one species. Working with animals seems like a simple career, but becoming and being a veterinarian is a difficult career path for anyone due to constant life changing decisions and consequences they make.
People in ancient times used horses for transportation, cows for milk and meat, and elephants to assist with heavy work (Stilley 16). Thus, people began to either give medical care to their animals or slaughter them for nourishment. Veterinary medicine was one of the first true professions to be practiced in ancient times (Stilley 16). Ancient records dating back to 4000 B.C. provide evidence in the use of medicinal herbs for humans and animals. Although dogs are recorded to be the first veterinary patient, Egyptians hieroglyphs prove that they dealt with a number of domestic animals (Ho). During these ancient times, veterinarians were held to the highest esteem and were considered miracle workers or gifted by their gods.

...eterinarian to help make their pet healthier and happier. Specialist visits cost at about fifty to a hundred dollars where as a general veterinary visits cost less than fifty. Specialist visits have such a high cost due to their high supply cost and the extensive education one must receive. Certified specialists follow their veterinary school with an internship or a two or four year residency at a teaching hospital that prepares them for an extensive exam on their preferred specialty. Due to the growing attachment towards animals and the owner’s desire for the best animal care, specialized veterinarians are a growing demand.
After gaining a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, veterinarians must obtain a license in order to practice veterinary medicine. To obtain a license, a graduate must take the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam and pass it (Riddle).
