Description of Business
Vertical Endeavors is a recognized leader in the rapidly growing rock climbing industry with many locations throughout the Midwest. It was founded in 1992 by Pam and Nate Postma with the idea that participants of all ages and abilities can climb throughout the year in a climate-controlled environment. Rock climbing has many physical and mental benefits and provides customers with a unique way to be active no matter the weather.
Objectives
As marketing interns for Vertical Endeavors, we have created multiple events to help further promote this great company. We will be working toward achieving these goals during our promotion plan Conquer the Mountain.
Our primary objective for these events is to increase revenue by 7%.
Our secondary objectives are to expand target markets to sports teams and to increase customer retention rates by 4%.

Vertical Endeavors is one of the recognized leaders in the industry. The company was founded in 1992 by Nate Postma. He and his wife, Pam, traveled around the world as they pursued their passion for climbing together recreationally and competitively. When they first started Vertical Endeavors Pam and Nate operated out of the couple’s garage. Nate is the president of the company and Pam runs most of the finance and human resources aspects of the business. Nate is also a member of the Climbing Wall Association’s Engineering Standards Committee. This is a group that has been updating and re-issuing the old Climbing Wall Industry Group climbing wall standards. Pam and Nate continue to be leaders and innovators in this ever-growing industry. They have built Vertical Endeavors to operate some of the largest climbing facilities in the nation. There are five locations around Minnesota and one near Chicago. Our original marketing plan was not a plan at all. We wanted to see success and focused on revenues, net sales, and stock price to gauge whether we were doing what was best for the company. We made sure to locate a target market and base our promotional tactics on what young and mature families want and need. We ensured that we did the right thing in the face of adversity, especially when concerning intercompany issues and product tampering. We wanted to make sure that we were selling great products that did their intended job at a fair price, and made sure our products were easily accessible to consumers.
For this discussion, I have chosen the sports property of the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors play in the NBA within the Pacific Division and have a large local and regional fan base in the city of Oakland and state of California. Even though the Warriors have a large fan following, there are several ways of extending the Warriors brand reach beyond the basketball court with conventional sports minded consumers and non-sports fans. In order to accomplish this, the Warriors must think outside the box and look at attracting typically unaware markets and consumers that are missing the marketing and advertising plans that are currently being used. The Warriors can use partnerships, alliances, licensing, merchandising and sponsorship activation to build the brand awareness and effectively increase their revenue.

The locals describe Elanora Heights as a family-oriented suburb that is only about 5 minutes from the beaches. The Deep Creek Reserve calls Elanora Heights home. This is primarily a residential suburb with mostly single dwellings, most of which are affordable. There are several large blocks of land that provide optimal views of the water and nature that surrounds this pretty and peaceful Sydney suburb. There a many renovation opportunities here and as more development occurs, it will see unbelievable growth.
