It was late in the afternoon when my family and I arrived at our summer vacation destination, Garner State Park. Garner is one of the best and well known places in Texas to go overnight camping, hiking, and swimming. The main attraction of the park is the Frio River which flows through one side of the entire park. While on the other side, it is nothing but the wilderness. There is also a huge mountain with several trails and a couple of caves that people can
In the beginning of the story Esperana is told that her new house on Mango Street will be the answer to her dreams. She is told that, in their new house, her family will be able to live like other families. “They always told us that one day we would move into a house, a real house that would be ours for always so we wouldn’t have to move each year”. Esperanza is told that in her new house there will be plumbing that worked, “real” stairs, a basement...
The area surrounding the Cuyahoga River is notorious for being extremely polluted and industrialized. An exception to this is Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This area has a rich history and has been used as a source of livelihood, industrialization, and recreation for centuries. This rural oasis takes up nearly thirty two square miles in northeastern Ohio and is the only National Park in the state. It became recognized as an official National Park in 2000 and before was known as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. Cuyahoga Valley National Park preserves a rural landscape along the Cuyahoga River and serves as a contrast to the otherwise metropolitan setting.
There is no better feeling in this world than to be outdoors with nature, especially when there are numerous activities to dabble in. Often times people take for granted the sentimental value that they can experience by simply walking through a park. God created the Earth to be beautiful and peaceful, and people need to keep it that way. I have always shared a love of the outdoors with my dad and my brother. We have gone on numerous camping, hiking, fishing, and star-gazing trips ever since I can remember. It was no surprise to me when my dad decided to buy a lake house on Hyco Lake, right outside of Roxboro. We got a really good deal on the house, so my dad decided that Hyco Lake was the perfect spot.
In comparison to other slaves that are discussed over time, Olaudah Equiano truly does lead an ‘interesting’ life. While his time as a slave was very poor there are certainly other slaves that he mentions that received far more damaging treatment than he did. In turn this inspires him to fight for the abolishment of slavery. By pointing out both negative and positive events that occurred, the treatment he received from all of his masters, the impact that religion had on his life and how abolishing slavery could benefit the future of everyone as a whole; Equiano develops a compelling argument that does help aid the battle against slavery. For Olaudah Equiano’s life journey expressed an array of cruelties that came with living the life of an
Esperanza is first influenced by an experience out of her control when she is forced to uproot from her previous home and move to a new house on Mango Street. Her initial idea of the house was that it was just another house; falling apart like the ones before with,

Over a long period of time, an individual’s social status has always had a great impact on relationships between others. Relationships such as friendship, romance and even family relationships are greatly influenced by one’s social status. When people value social status to the utmost importance, it often acts as a barrier to further solidify relations with others. “Wuthering Heights” is a classic novel written by Emily Bronte which illustrates how social status gets in the way of relationships. This story (set in eighteen hundreds) displays the true nature of the people at that time because they excessive had pride. Since they had excessive pride, they often judged people based on their social class; hence changing their relationship between each other. In this novel social class was measured by observing an individual’s wealth, appearance and manners. Heathcliff happens to be the male lead character of this story that lacks social class due to his rebellious relationship with Hindley. Afterwards, Hindley degrades Heathcliff’s status this affects his connections with Catherine and Nelly. Since Heathcliff’s status diminishes, Catherine becomes reluctant to continue her affair with Heathcliff. Nelly also becomes wary of Heathcliff because his personality changes after restoring his own status. Thus, it is clearly seen that social class has an impact on the story by altering Heathcliff’s relationship between Hindley, Catherine and Nelly.

In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
This arts study will define the importance of Elfreths Alley as one of Philadelphia’s oldest urban areas and the evolution of preserving the site as a National Historic Landmark. In the early 1700s, Elfreths Alley was a subdivision project that sought to house various members of shipping community near the docking areas of Philadelphia. “I realized if you can change a classroom, you can change a community, and if you change enough communities you can change the world”, is what Erin Gruwell said when speaking about her calling as a teacher in an inner city school. Erin Gruwell identifies as an author in the time period of postmodernism. Postmodernism is characterized by being of the late twentieth century, and by the style in which it is known to test the boundaries in a rebellious way. When Erin Gruwell was given the task of managing a less than excited high school class, she took the opportunity to create a unique teaching method to enhance the life of her students through writing. This method caught fire and eventually influenced the lives of many.
