As seen by myself and other Catholic youth seeking confirmation, Jesus’s words in Verse 40 relate to the Works of Charity hours we have completed. Similarly, the overall moral of both the Verse and and our Works of Charity is to aide in creating a better community and improving the society. Both the Verse and our community service is revolved around helping people, and creating a better world to live in with our good deeds. A line that magnifies this idea in Verse 40 is , “I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!” Jesus told his followers to help those in need, similar to what eighth graders were doing in their Works of Charity. First, I started with a summer VSEA program. My friend, brother, and I had previously talked about participating in this activity before the Faith Formation program had started because we thought it would be enjoyable to help out with children. During VSEA, we would with children grades 1-4 who needed a little extra help learning over the summer. The one month program taught me valuable lessons on how to work with children, be patient, and what being a teacher was about. We played games and made special relationships with the kids, helped them with projects and their work, and acted as a secondary teacher source if they ever needed any assistance. Here, I was given three hours of my time towards Neighborhood/Recreation Community. The Spiritual Work of Mercy I completed was instructing these children. Similarly, I joined in another event in which I helped out both children and adults alike. I spent 2 hours of my time at the Brookdale Fall Fair manning my own ticket booth game. I enjoyed helping out people of all ages, and it was amazing to see how happy the children were when they received tickets. Next, I volunteered my time at the Reindeer Run in December. Since I greatly enjoy helping people and building a more sufficient society, community service was pleasant for me. Most of my community service was performed with my brother. We were both extremely willing to cooperate and assist to the needs of the people we were working with, so our time spent together was enjoyable. Every time we had a new community service act, we would wake up excited, and ready to help out. In fact, we were so pleased with the experience we had, we often talked about continuing to serve the community in any way we can after Faith Formation is over. If it’s something as small as shoveling a neighbor’s snow, or something as big as creating our own food drive, we were interested in doing it. Helping out the community made us both happy, and my family and I will continue to serve as much as we possibly
