Education is the basis for our nation, without education there would be no foundation to build upon. It is important for each United States Citizen to understand the main concepts of education, and the factors that influence it. Those main concepts and influences being the material taught (common core), teaching methods, discipline in the classroom, and technology. By looking at each of these topics and their effect on education one will be able to better understand the structure, functions, and weaknesses of the United States education system. All fifty states must meet the common core set forth by the United States Government, but the way in which they chose to meet the common core is up to the educator and local communities, this is known as the curriculum. The Mathematics standard core is to provide clarity and specificity rather than broad general statements, by focusing on conceptual understanding of key ideas. The English language arts standard core is designed so students learn to read, write, speak, listen, and use language correctly and directly in many different settings.
Due to each state, community, and educator selecting their own curriculum, based off the common core, there are many fluctuations in the United States education system. These mild differences lead to different teaching methods. There are various types of students, each type learns best a certain way. The same can be said for educators. No teacher will teach exactly the same as any other. Each teacher has their own method of educating. Between the years 1985-2015 there were thousands of technological advances, which include the digital cellular phone (1988), MP3 players (1998), the World Wide Web (1990), Apple’s iPod (2001), YouTube (2006), along with the advancement of cameras, cell phones, computers, television sets, and more. All of these advancements left a considerable effect on the education world, notably the World Wide Web, cellular phones, and computers.
In 1990 the World Wide Web was invented, creating a new and never before seen information outlet. Along with the creation of the World Wide Web came the simple to use, never ending access to information. This created a new way for educators and students to achieve information. Now students, instead of researching through books and news articles, and reading the entirety of the literary work, students are able to use a computer, and type in the keywords for the subject they wished to know about.
The World Wide Web also led to the inventions of websites such as YouTube, Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Wikipedia. These websites allow close to effortless communication from all over the world. With such an easy access to information, students began to rely less on instructors, textbooks, or classmates and more than ever on the
