The United Parcel Service known also as the “Brown Giant” is the powerhouse in the air delivery, freight and parcel service industry. The United Parcel Service is based in Atlanta and is the world’s largest package-delivery firm. UPS delivers more than 3 billion parcels and documents per year. United Parcel Service operates 150,000 vehicles and 575 airplanes and is the dominating force in the United States ground delivery market. UPS is announcing that it’s ever expanding company with new acquisitions in the Asia/Pacific region, Latin America, and Europe. With its bureaucratic approach to the company’s management system with tight rules and regulations, and a well-defined division of labor in each plant from top to bottom is key in there success. The company has daily worksheet to specify goals and the work output. The daily employee quotas and achievements are reported on a weekly and monthly basis. I have experienced this bureaucratic approach to management first hand as an employee at UPS. From my experience there, I have seen how the company works from the inside out. I hope to relate valuable information that I gained there in my assignment to develop and analyze the management aspects of the United Parcel Service. I will cover key issues in the basic management structure of UPS including the external factors that shape the organization of the company, recent challenges to UPS.
The United Parcel Service has taken steps to restructure itself from an operations-oriented company into a market driven industry. Recent findings suggested the need to achieve better external customer satisfaction. The steps taken were to improve the overall of all customers that utilize the services at UPS. Other key areas that need improvement are volume logistics and customer logistics. The main priority at UPS is to deliver the package on time. They provide a much-anticipated alternative to the monopoly of the United States Postal Service. This competitor has been unreliable on multiple occasions. The average customer is feed up with the inconsistencies of the United States Postal Service. Unlike this company, the United Parcel Service helped define the word efficiency. This rating as well as many others factors have lead to the success of the United Parcel Service. The current status of the company reflects the strength of the their competitive position. The leaders of the current which include James Kelly, Michael L. Eskew, and John A. Duffy have set an example for anyone who is interested in management as a career. Their tactical maneuvers are first rate. This company succeeded because of the drastic communication advances. The customer is ultimately satisfied with the reliability of UPS to deliver on time. This is the marketing factor that sets UPS a step above the competition All decisions were made in the respect that the company would continue to bring the customer more than they expected. In turn United Parcel Service is an extremely profitable corporation. The environment provided by UPS keeps customers, employees, and managers working hard to keep up the high standards set by todays’ customers.
The railroad in its simplest form is a delivery company. We deliver goods to businesses so they can produce the products they sell to the people. Norfolk Southern understands the importance of being a link in the supply chain. If the goods we deliver do not arrive on time, our customers will not be happy and they will lose business. Furthermore, this was kind of funny, because as a kid I was amazed at how Amazon ships customers’ packages in the fastest and the most cost-effective way. As a kid, I remember asking my parents “How does Amazon do this?” and I remember them saying that I will need to major in a topic that will help me understand this process. Every time I ordered an item from them, I would think about the process of obtaining the packages using robots, packing the items safely, and then shipping them off to customers. This is an example of logistics and efficiency at its finest. As a junior, I still do not understand this process fully, since I am currently taking IDIS 240. But, by the time I graduate, I hope to fully understand this process.

Prospero recounts his tale of woe to Miranda of being expelled from his dukedom due to the greed of his brother and his brother conspiring with the king. Prospero states, “The King Of Naples, being an enemy / To me inveterate, hearkens my brother’s suit,” (1.2.145-146). The King of Naples recognized his power over Prospero due to his position and gave power to Antonio by furthering Antonio’s “suit”. Alonso did this not only to help his friend, but to make a subordinate out of Antonio. The power Alonso possessed by being the King of Naples enabled him to act on his greed and act immorally. Although Prospero knows how it feels to have a person of authority abuse that position, his power of Caliban becomes too much temptation and he treats Caliban terribly. In a fit of rage, while yelling at Caliban, Prospero exclaims, “Thou most lying slave / Who stripes may move, not kindness, I have used /thee/ Filth as thou art,” (1.2.412-416). Prospero is using rude language to Caliban with terms such as “filth as thou art” and calling him a liar, and even threatens to use physical violence. From his possession of power over Caliban, Prospero uses it to harm him and force him to do the chores for Prospero. Although Prospero did originally treat Caliban with kindness until Caliban attempted to force himself onto Miranda, he swung to the other extreme and is now getting revenge for it. Prospero uses his position of power and his magic to force Caliban under his will and subordinate him. The corruption caused by powers is exempt for morally just individuals such as Miranda. Miranda is able to make a new attachment due to her position of power rather than becoming isolated. She finds a husband in the person who was her subordinate, and does not abuse that position against him. Miranda is the purest and righteous

Before Prospero was sent to this island and before he even knew all this magic, he was the Duke of Milan. However, the reason behind his leaving was due to Antonio and Alonso kicking him out. Already we can see how Antonio from the start is a character who loves power. It can be seen as he was not caring of his brother and would leave him to rot in the ocean and take over his position of power instead of letting him be. In the story, after the shipwreck, the reader still get glimpses of his desire for more power as he heads for Alonso’s position of power. Gonzalo and Alonso fall asleep unexpectedly and it sparks an idea in Antonio’s mind which he shares with Sebastian. Because they Golanzo and Alonso have fallen asleep, he feels it would be a perfect opportunity to kill them and take over their positions. No one would know. He convinces Sebastian to kill Gonzalo while he himself kills Alonso. In the story Sebastian says, “as thou got’st Milan,/I’ll come by Naples” (II.i.333-334). This line reveals how Antonio has already got Milan and Sebastian will now be the ruler of Naples. The fact that Antonio was so easily able to convince Sebastian to kill someone for power and pretty much dethrone and kill Alonso for more power shows how he is blind by his desire for power. As he got his position from Propspero, he already feels he needs more and wants to take that of Alonso too. Antonio’s desire for power helps enhance the plot as it too shows how he has control over his actions and is able to choose his ending, but power blinds him so instead of thinking rationally he doesn’t think at all and just wants to absorb power. Thus, revealing how his desire for power continues to grow and he isn’t able to control his actions due to
