National occupational standards – is a comprehensive set of standards covering all aspects of all job roles within health and social care setting. 1.2 – Explain why reflecting on work activities is an important way to develop own knowledge and skills. By reflecting on work activities allows us to develop our knowledge, skills and practice and helps make sense of and learn from experiences, develop skills and techniques understanding what works and what doesn't work and considering what could have been done differently. 1.3 – Describe ways to ensure that personal attitudes or beliefs do not obstruct the quality of work. As a health and social care worker it is important to put our values and beliefs to one side / outside the workplace preferably and concentrate on the person centred approach which allows the individual to live their life how they wish to do so by being able to make choices and decisions for themselves and to also have their wishes met. 2.1 – Describe how a learning activity has improved own knowledge, skills and understanding. By attending all relevant training and ensuring all training is up to date allows us to improve and expand our knowledge, skills and understanding, for example – I recently attended a moving and handling course at my new company and was surprised at how much training had changed in the short while since I last attended a moving and handling course and therefore after attending the course I then applied the new training to my day to day tasks. 2.2 – Describe how reflecting on a situation has improved own knowledge, skills and understanding. By reflecting on a situation that you may come across in your work place then allows you to reflect on what happened, how it happened, what went well and what didn't go so well and therefore be able to learn from the situation and be able to either improve the situation or prevent it from happening again.
Also it is important to reflect on the environment of your work place and whether or not you are working with a clear knowledge and understanding of your job role and the environment and in safe way; and you can reflect on this by being able to have a clear understanding of where you are on you personal development plan.
2.3 – Describe how feedback from others has developed own knowledge, skills and understanding.
Feedback from other colleagues, management and other professionals allows us to develop and progress in our job role, and any feedback received can help correct any mistakes that may occur in our day to day role.
3.1 – Define the term “personal development plan”
A personal development plan is put in place to allow all staff in the organisation to develop in the progress to then meet the agreed standards of care. The personal development plan is a action plan based on reflection, self awareness, goal setting, and any additional training that is need to reach your own personal goals and targets and within the time frame
given. 3.2 – Identify who could be involved in the personal development plan process. A persona development plan is usually done with your manager or a mentor, in which way they will support you in planning your learning in order for you to reach each goal or target correctly and within the time frame given. There can also be other people involved in your personal development plan such as other colleagues and other types of professionals. 3.3 – Identify sources of support for own learning and development. There are two types of support that can be of help and support when an individual is completing their personal development plan and they are formal support which is allows for more planned training and development sessions such as supervision and appraisals and staff discussions. The other type of support is informal which allows for the individual to learn as they go along and while learning on the job by observing day to day tasks and observations and by receiving feedback from our colleagues and management. 3.4 – List the benefits of using a personal development plan to identify ongoing improvements in own knowledge and understanding. The benefits of using a personal development plan allows for you identify one's own strengths and to then develop on this further through more training and qualifications and to then identify the areas in which you need to develop and progress in. A personal development plan also allows you to set targets and goals and to use these as a way to expand and develop knowledge, skills and understanding that obtain whilst working in the organisation, it can also help you take responsibility for your own learning and be aware of your limitations and learning needs.
The SSSC codes of conduct contains 10 codes 5 are for employees and other 5 are for employers where as in the NMC there is 4 codes which are, prioritise people, practise effectively, preserve safety and promote professionalism. Both codes are very similar even when dealing with different patient groups both codes state in 1.1 to prioritise people and treat each person as an equal individual. These both codes of conduct should be followed correctly at all times by anyone working in the health and social care. The NMCs aim is there to protect the public and decides if a nurse or midwife is fit to practice up to their high standards. The NMC was published on the 29th January 2015 but didn’t come effective to 31st March 2015.

A personal development plan is an action plan that gets you from where you are right now to where you want to be in future. This can incorporate learning hard skills (like project management skills) as well as soft skills (like active listening) (Bartels, 2013).
The personal plan has enabled me to track myself on my developmental changes that are important for my achievement of set goals. Planning has also allowed me to keep track of all the steps that I will need to acquire skills and knowledge. I have also been able to see that if I continue in my current method I will not achieve all of my goals and through techniques such as SWOT analysis I have identified these areas and begun to create methods to fix this problem. The basic purpose of this essay is to point out my personal and professional skill development because these two areas are interwoven.
Personal Development is a lifelong process that involves the assessment of current skills and talents and the enhancement of oneself based on that assessment which then leads to the realization of goals and an improved quality of life. To be able to assess yourself, you need to be able to reflect on your past which helps you to understand the attitudes you have developed and the foundation that you will be building your life on. Also, you have to reflect on your present to see if there’s room for improvement and reflect on your future so that you can achieve your aspirations.
