Uniforms Should Not Be Mandatory In The TDSB

I believe that uniforms should not be mandatory in the TDSB. I say this because of many reasons, including how they take away individuality, creativity and diversity, how uniforms are too expensive for some families, and how wearing them does not help prevent bullying.

The clothes that students wear represents their individuality, creativity, and shows diversity among them. Forcing students to wear uniforms is not right. We all know that each of us are different, so why are we trying to hide under uniforms, looking like everyone else? We have to be ourselves and show who we truly are. We dress according to how we want to be that day, like wearing nice clothes to look good, or wearing sweat pants to be comfortable. We have to be ourselves and quit trying to be the same as everyone else.

Another reason I state is that the uniforms can be expensive for families. There are families out there that struggle to get 3 proper meals a day, and asking them to pay for uniforms is just too much. People are getting bullied because of their size or how they act, and not a lot of people get bullied for what they're wearing. In fact, instead of people getting bullied because they're wearing "un-cool" clothes, what if people wearing uniforms got bullied by people who don't have to wear uniforms? Also, students might get teased on how they look with the pants they have on (uniform's pants). They themselves might know that they don't look good in pants, so they wear shorts or other items that look nice on them, but what if they had to wear the pants everyday? They would keep on getting bullied, and they would still have to wear the same pants the next day. Everything will just end up the same, and as for getting bullied, students just have to learn to ignore it, or stand up for
