He meets Flora who had saved his life and teaches him how to use his powers, but obstacles come there way and must deal with them. Ulysses is brave and will deal with any obstacle that may come in his way.
My first reason of why I think Ulysses is a brave squirrel is when in the story Ulysses and Flora go to a doughnut cafe and Ulysses is hiding in a box. Then when the waitress is taking the Flora’s order she mistakens that the thing in flora’s box is a doll. So the waitress lifts the cover off the box that Ulysses is hiding in. Ulysses thinks that she is a

So Ulysses gets on the cat’s head and the cat tries to hit him but Ulysses has something else in mind, he picks up the cat and throws him at a wall. This example show that Ulysses is a brave squirrel character trait is brave by choosing to help someone instead of running away from the problem.
My third reason of why I think Ulysses is a brave squirrel is when in the book Ulysses is captured by a woman who wants to kill him. Ulysses thinks “I’m going to die” but he knows that he is a superhero. Then when the woman opened the bag and was about to hit the shovel on the head of Ulysses. But Ulysses is a step ahead of her, he hops out of the bag, grabs the shovel and, through the shovel into a bush and ran away. Courage is a deed that can be portrayed in many ways. In the Historical Fiction novel To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, there are many acts of racism and problematic cases where acts of courage are demonstrated in different and unique ways that can only be deciphered if one reads in between the lines of the words. There are three characters in particular who show courage in diverse ways. First, there is Arthur Radley who anonymously shows courage by performing tasks that cause him to face the outside world where he’s been isolated from for so long. Secondly, there is Scout Finch who demonstrates courage through her adolescent age. Lastly, there is Atticus Finch who displays courage through his selfless and kind actions. Therefore, in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses diverse characters to represent different acts of courage.
Ulysses Everett McGill from “O Brother Where Art Thou” is a man of action whereas Odysseus from “The Odyssey” is a man of morality. Judging primarily on these statements, whom appears to be a man that one should follow? Many are attempting to justify how can two such great leaders be compared to one another? Everett is a worthy representation of Odysseus because of their similar attributes such as boasting and dishonesty. Yet at times both can be braver than any other, sharing not only attributes, but also similar backgrounds as well.
The character cannot stand it anymore. He leaves his son to rule the land and goes out to sea. He tries to convince his sailors as well. Ulysses tells his faithful mariners “[o]ld age hath year his honor and his toil….’Tis no too late to seek a newer world….To
"Courage isn't an absence of fear. It's doing what you are afraid to do. It's having the power to let go of the familiar and forge ahead into new territory." ~John Maxwell. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout (Jean Louise Finch), Jem (Jeremy Atticus Finch), and Atticus Finch display acts of valor that contribute, and in some cases encourage their rectitude. Harper Lee demonstrates that acting courageously can lead to an improved, sustained, or newly developed personal integrity.
People show bravery in many ways, both typical and atypical. Atticus, Boo and Jem all showed important examples of bravery. Atticus models bravery for his children in the determined way he defends Tom Robinson. Boo eventually becomes a hero by the brave actions he takes to protect the children. Jem grows from an immature child to a brave young man. They all face their inner fears as well as the rules of society and stand up for what they believe in. Harper Lee’s classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird shows the difference between right and wrong by the actions of Atticus, Boo and Jem.
Atticus Finch demonstrates both moral and physical courage through his decisions of taking on and fighting Tom Robinson’s case, despite all the critics and setbacks, by putting his own life at risk to protect his client and doing all in his power to bring justice. In conclusion, true courage is the ability to confront something even if one is “licked” from the start. Tom Robinson, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus Finch all display real courage throughout Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Tom Robinson, being an African-American, living in a prejudiced town and having a crippled arm, still helped Mayella, gave a truthful testimony and tried to escape prison. Mrs. Dubose courageously overcame her morphine addiction despite her age and pain.
To be courageous you cannot be deterred by possible outcomes that may involve danger or pain. To be courageous you have to be more than brave you have to be undaunted and have a heart of a lion. Through Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird courage and determination are embedded through the character’s actions. Atticus Finch, a lawyer in Maycomb County, explains to his son Jem, “I wanted him to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see if through no matter what.(Lee 149)” Through this quote Harper Lee is trying to convey that, real courage is more than appearance it is a significant action
After reading Flora & Ulysses By Kate Dicamillo, I think Ulysses Made the wrong decision to start flying in The Giant Do-Nut. I do not agree with his choice in chapter 32 of flying because that choice led to him having a concussion and I think that his superpowers should have been kept secret.
Another way that Ulysses fits the model of an archetype is that he has flaws. In other words he is not perfect. If he was perfect he would be boring and it wouldn"t be interesting if he does the amazingest thing. It wouldn"t be interesting because you would already expect that from someone who is perfect. One of Ulysses flaw is that he is greedy. In the beginning of the story when Ulysses won the war between Troy he had taken all the treasures. He had taken so many there ship barely had room for food. Then when they went to more places he got greedy and took more treasures now leaving no room for food. That is why Ulysses and his men went hungry. He is also a little stubborn because when he saw his men eating the cattle that was forbidden to eat he had gotten all mad but, when his men convinced him he ate.
Throughout the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, many traits are displayed in many forms. Different characters change dynamically and over the course of the novel the reader will soon realize that the trait most augmented is courage. The definition of courage is to perform an act that frightens one self. In other words, a person who steps out of his comfort zone is considered courageous. The four main characters who truly show bravery and courage are Atticus Finch, Boo Radley, Heck Tate and most of all Scout.

Brave was the most important character trait because in the sirens; it said “let the men tie you in a luger, hand and foot. Back to the mast so you can hear the sirens”. Odysseus beats them by hearing there annoying voices. This is how I know he was brave.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird there are many examples of courage. Courage plays a big role in the story from the Tom Robinson case to Boo Radley saving Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. Courage is not something people are born with. It is also something very few people show at every needed time. There are many ways you can show courage in your everyday life even if it is in the smallest way.
Odysseus and Ulysses have differences, but also similarities. The man's role in his son's life shifts once Telemachus matures. However, Odysseus and Ulysses portray similar characteristics - their love for their crew and their determination in achieving goals. The man is a born leader; he shows leadership in raising his son, caring for his crew, and ultimately, in taking charge of his life. The poets acclaim men who have direction in life to strive and attain goals.
'Ulysses' is both a lament and an inspiring poem. Even modern readers who are not so familiar with the classics, can visualize the heroic legend of Ulysses, and so is not prepared for what he finds in the poem— not Ulysses the hero but Ulysses the man.
