Over the last decade, video games have been a major impact on online interaction, especially in the live streaming market. Just like watching live sports, video game streams have made a huge impact on viewers worldwide. Live streaming is one of the biggest growing trends in the digital realm in recent years, showcasing how online content shouldn’t be overlooked.
Two key players in the market of video game streaming is Twitch and YouTube. Both of these companies provide a wide range of video content that are not just based around video games. However, as time has progressed, video games are now their larger target market for viewers. For example, a study in 2013 showed that Twitch dominated the live streaming platform attracting over 34 million viewers per month. Just a year later, their average viewers per month increased to 100 million. In the case for YouTube one of the biggest stars that came to be in the video game realm, is PewDiePie with over 48 million subscribers. These statistics prove that

In today’s technology boom, the new waves of doing business have transformed the way people shop and live. The same happened the way people access personal entertainment. With Internet, people can stream movie online without have to go theater, or the rental movie box.
And in response, Baby Boomers incline to revolt against these changes. With the development of Youtube and other social media websites, there are now occupations called Youtubers, Twitch Streamers, and Let’s Players. If an older adult heard about someone recording themselves playing video games, uploading it to Youtube/Twitch, and using the money gained from that video to live off of, then the older adult may find that abnormal and seriously wonder about what’s wrong with this current generation. Nevertheless, that is an actual field, as can be seen by Felix Kjellberg (known as PewDiePie), Sean McLoughlin (known as JackSepticEye), and Mark Fischbach (known as Markiplier).
YouTube is a network of videos that anyone in the world can view. Two popularly watched people who post videos to YouTube, or YouTubers as they are called, are Connor Franta and Zoe Sugg. Although their career paths are similar, they are very different. The videos they produce fit into opposite genres, they live across the world from each other, and are members of different varieties of channels. The objective of this paper is to compare and contrast these two YouTubers and their styles and lives.
With the expansion of digitalization, popular trends emerged with media outlets, such as YouTube. Since surfacing in 2005, YouTube is one of the most visited websites behind Google and Facebook (Cayari, 2011). As Newkirk & Forker (2007) notes, it was voted “invention of the year in 2006” by Time magazine. YouTube is free to the public sphere to publish media with few regulations. This space contains media in the form of music, advertisements, videos, lectures, tutorials, and personal video blogs. People utilize YouTube for personal, professional, and educational purposes. As Benkler notes, these tools enable the public sphere and “relies on the information and cultural production activity of emerging nonmarket actors” (2006, p. 6). The rate of communication is outstanding as it “reaches more US adults ages 18-34 than any cable network” (YouTube, 2014). Part of the appeal is the limited regulations and the freedom of speech that is globally accessible. As Benkler states “social production is a fact, not a fad. It is a critical long term shift caused by the Internet” (2005). YouTube remains successful because it offers a platform to inspire, educate, and empower its users.
According to a leading article about social media, YouTube is another way to share videos with fans and supporters of a team or organization. It can also advertise a player’s talents and abilities to athletic coaches or employers of top sports agencies and companies (Ressler). For instance, some high school athletes use social networks to highlight their ath...
He stated in the article, “Aside from the benefits of educating the fan base on the benefits of utilizing social media as mentioned earlier in this section, a consistent pattern of integrating less-popular media types (such as Twitter and podcasts) with known popular media types (such as Facebook and YouTube) should yield a fan base more comfortable with the various media options at their disposal” (Clavio, 2011). Different sports teams have different demographics and the various departments who work for an organization must understand their demographics and conduct research in determining the best method to reach out to their fans as well as to attract the casual sports fan. Different demographics rely on different sources of media to find out information. For example, newspapers used to be much more popular than they are today. The 21st century has become more digital than ever before, people would much rather be able to access information through online outlets such as social media, message boards, forums, and applications that can be accessed
